Hi /p/, I've a question, is it possible to do your own negatif ? I mean here is my idea : we can find how to make wet plate collodion, can we imagine doing the same shit on films ?

You would have to build bigger tanks, but nothing impossible theoretically, right ?

Not asking about the price, just asking if this could be something doable and usable on regular cameras ?

Good Q bro and I think you can but it's fucking impossible.

I did some research a while back after I got confident making my own developer, my buddy that runs a community darkroom said that making your own emulsions is where the big bucks are. You can do the wet plate collodial with some proficiency, but that is an involved process and takes skill to get right.

35mm film, or even 120 film, I'd imagine, is impossible, because you'd need to make all of this shit in the dark, and in a precise manner. All of this stuff is now automated and it makes no sense whatsoever to even attempt making your own 35mm film.

By "I think you can", I mean "I think you can try", but it's impossible.

Ok, you answered my question. I thought this could be done, but I also thought this would be fucking impossible... Fuck, I would love to do my own films.

Ok ! Thanks a lot guys !

Even the first B&W films, on a very very flammable and environmentaly sensitive base, were products of advanced chemicals and machining industry. Unless you have one standing by, and are interested in powering through piles and piles of research: it's unlikely that we'll have actual cottage film anytime soon, let alone DIY.

Perhaps within the next 20 years of small-scale fabrication we'll be able to coat our own film, and acquire the PET (or some such) base externally; but right now, state of the art is indeed glass plates, tintypes, and (supposedly) photo paper.

You can but actually you can't.

Foma sells canned emulsion for making photographic paper or whatever you stick it on will be sensible to light.

There's a french guy who makes gourmet 120 film with a type of japanese paper.

Pretty hardcore.

If I were OP, I'd buy film in bulk and roll it myself...

Op here. Already doing bulk loading for 35mm. Not sure I'll do that for 120. I'm waiting a good deal on eBay...
