I have ¥60,000 (about $500) worth of points/gift vouchers from Yodabashi Camera in Japan and I was hoping to buy either a decent entry level DSLR or Mirrorless camera or even a Compact camera that offers a decent step up from cell phones.
So far my 'best' choices withing my price range that Yodabashi offers seem to be either a Nikon j5 double lens kit, a Nikon D3400, a Canon 1300D/RT6 or a Canon 100D/RSL1.
I really wanted a Sony RX100 II but Sony cameras bought in Japan do NOT have English support, and my moon-rune reading ability is fucked.
Any advice?

I dunno about the RX100 II, but language can be changed on their mirrorless cameras through a small third party app.
Also, like 90% of camera words in japanese are katakana, so you should be fine.
Yodobashi also sells (slightly pricier) English language versions of their products.
Or you could actually try learning the language if the country you live in.

From the research I've done, that's not possible on the RX line.
>Also, like 90% of camera words in japanese are katakana, so you should be fine.
Having played with the camera a bit in store, it's got a fair bit of Kanji. I'm mostly fine with Katakana, but not at speeds fast enough for on the fly stuff.

They only stock the III and IV in international, which is way beyond my price range.

Which I am. But when it comes to things I need to read quickly, my skill just isn't there yet.

Sounds to me like it is time for you to man up and get the Japanese language version.
You don't learn a language by only doing what you are comfortable with.
Also, take a look at a5100.

>fuji x70
Out of his price range and no longer sold by Yodobashi.
>eos m6 + 22mm
Out of his price range again.
Not sure OP wants just a prime either.
>g7x i or ii
Original no longer sold.
Mark II is slightly out of his budget, but close enough he should consider it.
>epl6 or 7
6 isn't carried by Yodobashi anymore.
7 is $100 out of his range, but still worth considering.
>m3 bundle
Out of his price range yet again.

Pentax 645D

For what it's worth, I've found that it's pretty easy to learn Japanese menus, even if you can't actually read them. I've played plenty of Japanese video games and even used a Japanese computer for a month while I was over there, just by memorizing where things were in the menus. Camera menus are pretty simple and I'd think you could just down load the English owner's manual and work from there.

a5100 w/ kit
QX1/QX10/QX100 if you have a smartphone
a6000 body only
Best choices, OP.

See if you can't get a refurbished D3300 and a prime lens or two
>>3039094
I don't think Yodobashi sells refurbed items.
>>3039095
Even new you can get a new d3300 and a new prime for around $500
>>3039107
Doesn't look like Yodobashi still carries the d3300.
>>3038145
Get a Sony a6000 or a6300, it comes in a kit with the 16-50mm lens.
>>3039056
just wait till i pair this thing up.
>>3039148
ok, it's paired.
kept you waiting huh.
>>3039120
sell the kit and get a 18-55mm kit.
