Just get over it.
Not your fear of strangers.
Get over street photography. It's a dead genre with nothing left to say, pursued only by gear fetishists and by guys who are just moving out of their zoo photography phase and who feel like they need to be in danger to give their work some narrative heft.

Sorry I didn't really mean "street photography" just photography that happens to take place on the street. I should have said in public or something.
>>3016067
It's weird because if you live in a big city, people DGAF about you, not even if you are carrying a camera. What work the best for me is to be low profile (dark clothes, camera in the bag until I need it, stealth shooting...) and/or shoot with a group of other photographer.
Yes! shooting with a bunch of photogs greatly boost your confidence, it also helps you getting more social.

What works for me is dressing up nice while shooting. I'm able to get right in the thick of it because people just assume I'm supposed to be there
I just walk around with my camera to my face the whole time. Nobody ever knows when I'm taking a picture. I also look crazy so I get some good reactions.

What do you mean by dressing up nice?

full juggalo attire.

business casual
The way you get over anxiety isn't by making the world less scary. You make yourself stronger and braver.
The way you do this is by regularly increasing your exposure to things you find scary. You will invariably find that you can overcome those things.
Maybe next time you're in public, you take your camera with you. The time after that, you take a snapshit. Then you take more, until you can go out taking as many photographs as you please of whatever you want.
source: I used to be agoraphobic
If the anxiety impacts your life any more than not wanting to take public photographs then seek professional help. imo pregabalin is the best anti anxiety drug, and I've tried a lot. Well, Valium is the best but you can't take that every day.
scream at everyone that passes by. take their picture
>>3016271
Don't drug yourself to get rid of a social problem. These "anti anxiety" drugs create a dependence and in most cases perpetuate the problems when the drugs are stopped.
Instead there are things like meditation, exercise , teas , a proper diet and starting off in small amounts of exposure that are better ways to overcome fears.
But do whatever you want, it is your life.
Shoot like it's your job, and if someone gets uncomfortable, tell them you're shooting pics for the new porn magazine you're putting together.
Yeah, then again, this may only work in certain cultures. When I was in Havana, everyone thought it was hilarious and it lightened the tension. In Atlanta? Not so much.
Half a xanax.
Hang camera on neck or shoulder. Get one that can be controlled and viewed remotely with wifi. Then just pretend you are on your phone and snapshit away.
200mg of Dextromethorphan, It only cost $1, Good luck
I know that feel. I've been living with mild socially anxiety for years now. Something that really helps when I'm out taking photos is I make eye contact with my subjects, give them a little nod and then proceed to whip my dick out and start shooting. I find that people respond to confidence very well, and what better way to exude confidence than whipping your dick out in public.

Why is it always pussies who want to get into street photography?
>>3016460
because street photo is therapy.
Keep looking through the viewfinder after you take the shot, so when the person looks, they'll think whatever you're shooting wasn't them.
>>3016460
I'm not a pussy I was in the military then moved to a country where I can't speak the language. I just have bad social anxiety.
>>3016494
>I was in the military
No one really considered the Air Force "real" military, you autist.
>>3016494
Social anxiety is just a code work for being a huge pussy
>>3016067
pretend you're a tourist in a city you've never been to rather than being a local taking photos of other locals
>>3016067
Dress nicely. Don't wear like a homeless person try to take picture of kids.
Smile a lot. Especially when you got caught taking their pictures.
Get a fast len and body with fast autofocus. Don't even try to compose the picture. Snap, move on and crop it later.
Ask for permission sometimes work but it defeat the purpose of capturing natural moments in the streets.
Don't be a creep
>>3016548
Honestly the second part is bad advice.
You'll only get shit pictures.
Find your scene and set your camera and wait for a subject. You'll get much better pictures but might have to wait a bit longer
Tfw you live in Germany and people can actually sue you over photographing them.
>>3016694
no they can´t sue you for taking a picture, you´re just not allowed to publish them without consent
Tfw you live in Japan and people can actually sue you over photographing them.
>>3016836
>Tfw you live in Japan and people can actually sue you over photographing them.
how? isnt japan street photo paradise?
>>3016296
Yeah thats what you should do first. I know people who have done the living healthy thing and it worked.
Personally I spent years trying that and it was a big waste of time, meanwhile my life when down the tubes.
if you just force yourself to start doing it you'll quickly realize that people don't give a fuck in most circumstances.
even if there's good tips itt for being inconspicuous (shoot from the hip, keep to yourself, don't get in people's faces, whatever), no matter how good the advice it'll be hard to convince yourself that nobody will treat it like a big deal until you actually get out there and start shooting.
of course this applies if you're in a big city or busy area. if you're in rural oklahoma or some shit, like some sort of small insular community, you might have to approach things differently. maybe even reconsider whether taking ``street photos'' is really feasible.
>>3016353
>200mg
nah mate, less than 100 would more than do the trick. but yeah.
try ketamine, you won't give a fuck what others may think.
for real, just go to crowded places and you'll fit right in with the tourists. practise stealth shooting till you feel comfortable shooting at less crowded places, move on to even less crowded places after that. then shoot street and deliver some tasty street shot you magnificent bastard.
I'm not a street pro by any means, but you just kind of "do"; if that makes any sense.
Like I know it's the same as saying "dude just b urself lmao", but that's really how you get over it.

Did you really have bad experiences in Atlanta? I spent a week there last year with my friend and we shot a lot, almost everyone we asked was super chill, I even had instances of a group of people (sometimes crackheads) would ask us to take a photo of them
Only bad experience was when we saw a group of hobos surrounding two hobos fighting so we started taking photos (naturally) and a hobo asked us if we were cops and we said no & he told us to fuck off
>>3017587
That's just hobos though. One night my friends and I were taking photos, and I was kind off taking some photos away from the rest of them and I hear my friends talking and some dude saying "C'mon, square up nigga! I'll take all you mufukkas!" betting some crazy amount like $1000 that he could beat all of us at once in a fight. We obviously just brushed him off and walked away because firstly it's just plain retarded, he didn't have the $1000 to pay up if he lost, would have probably lost our gear, and he looked like the type to fight dirty.
>>3017594
Oh well of course shit like that happens every day in Atlanta, you probably should have expected that lmao that city can be wild
>>3017600
It was actually in Orlando, but it's close enough.
>>3016079
>be low profile (dark clothes, camera in the bag until I need it, stealth shooting...)
this could really make it look like you're stalking somebody, you're a creep or have something to hide
anyway OP just try, small steps
go out with your gear and take your camera out with you
then at a certain point photograph something, without people in the frame, possibly without many people around
then look in your viewfinder while some people are around, say in a crowded street where people just pass by, and notice how nobody will care about you even if you have a camera
look around in the viewfinder, possibly fix the camera on somebody and follow him a little bit - unless he displays obvious discomfort, if that's the case move a bit and do the same thing again
keep at it, possibly repeating each step until you feel at ease
>>3017664
This isn't the best advice. You're not a stalker so don't act like one.
Take two quick shots at the max and then move on.
Do what Phillip Lorca DiCorcia did.
