Alright boiz, time to prove whether you're the shit or just shit.

Anyone use the Fujinon T 300m f/8? It's more readily available than the Nikon, but I'm still not 100% sold on it.
>>
>>3015343
What's keeping you away from it senpai?
>>
I'll probably end up selling my Fuji gear later this year and swap over to Sony.

That said, I used my Fuji gear professionally but I've decided to make a career change and the fact is that I no longer need ultimate IQ and the best color science but rather resolution and low light capabilities for my new job (not as a photographer).

Recently picked up Batis 85. Now I need the 18mm... help.
>>
Played around with the x-t2 today, damn it's nice. It even makes focusing the 23/1.4 tolerable. Want is stronk. My current x-t1 is okay, but can't decide if I should get a used xpro2, xt2 or xt20... My 18-135 is gone tho, ain't nobody got time for slow ass glass. Fuji should make something like a 100-300 f/4.

I cheated a bit and tried some other stuff at the store. Em1 mkii is a got damn beast for what it is. Em5 mkii is quite nice tho too. As was canon m5, of all things. Should I swap all my shit again...
>>
>>3015539
I've got an XT-10 with 23 f1.4, it's got good focusing, never had an issue once. I'd wait for the XT-20.
>>
>>3015544
Yeah I have no real problems with xt1+23/1.4 either. But xt2 just makes it so much faster somehow. Let's see about the xt20 when it becomes available.
>>
Recent purchases:
X+T2, 23mm 1.4, 14mm , 60mm
Number of shots taken in the last 2 weeks: 11...

I really need for it to be either proper winter with snow here (netherlands) or spring to hurry the fuck up.

I also regret not getting the 18-55 kit because it goes together with the 14mm so well for minimalism travels. Same hood + filters with a tiny bag. Maybe I'll eventually pick up a used one but right now they're still more expensive than 300 euros for the kitlens would have been.
>>
>>3015601
Nice! I just use the 23mm f1.4, and it seems to do more than enough for travel. You live in the Netherlands, there is plenty of shit to take pictures of.

>>3015586
So, even faster then?

Right now I'm pretty content with my setup. I was thinking of getting the famous 35mm f2, but whats holding me back is that it's quite close to the 23mm. It's light and small, and the XT-10 seems to be made for it.

Then there is the 50mm f2 that is coming out but its £450 at LCE - so lets say £400 on Ebay or the sort, 75mm equivalent... Good telephoto, and it might be an interesting focal length to play with.

I have a FD to FX converter and my 50mm 1.8 canon lens can do the job, but it's obviously not autofocus.

Original Fujifag reporting in.

Bought a lensmate thumbgrip for the xpro2 this week.
>>
>>3015606
>So, even faster then?

Yeah, less hunting and just confident snap to focus.

I have the og 35/1.4 that I'll probably swap out for the new 50/2. It'll cost around 500€ here, which is quite a lot for what it is. Kind of pisses me off. I like the 75mm eqv field of view though and I suppose it will focus faster than I can with my manual niftyfifties...

One thing that I really want is a lensturbo ii for nikon g lenses.

No chance.

With that money you can add another grand and you'll have a brand new digital MEDIUM format camera.

Or,

You can have the toppest of top range Fuji cameras with basically every relevant lens. And have money left over to go on holiday with.

Leica is a sick joke perpetuated by this illusion of it being any different from other top of the range cameras.

Film yes, ok. Digital: NO.

Srs question.

I really want to buy an XT2 for travel, why does everyone say the lenses suck? Is this true? I'm looking at the kit lens and a 35 F2.

Looking for some non-troll answers. It's a lot of money to me.
>>
>>3015714
>why does everyone say
no one says that except two butthurt sonyfags on /p/
>>
>>3015714
If you're talking about negative opinions on this board they centre around a reliance on a subset of mtf charts from select reviewers that focus on ultimate sharpness. They don't consider colour rendition, contrast, flare handling, CA, autofocus speed or, often enough, relative cost (or weight or size).

The best advice I can give you is to look at a lot of samples, don't forget the Zeiss 32, and think about the 23f2 if you're going for a one lens kit.
>>
>>3015714
No they don't fucking suck - they are going to give you great results. If you do your homework it will be revealed that Fuji really have thought about their lens catalogue and really put in a lot of effort into designing exactly what you need.

There is currently a launch of F/2 "fujicron" lenses modelled after the legendary Leica Summicron line - which are F/2. The 35 f2 is apparently so good that it out-prices the 1.4 on a regular basis.

And just because some dickhead took pictures of his wheelie bins and concluded that Fuji was the "weakest" - understand that these are the sort of people that never actually take pictures of anything of interest. It's just gear-faggotry bro-science.
>>
>>3015632
Leicas are shit. Digital Leicas are especially shit. The M8 is especially shit among digital Leicas.

Fuji lenses aren't the most extraordinary in terms of sharpness, but their form factor, ergos and style suit their x-line. Look into an a7-type and the 35/2.8 for travel or even 20mm pancake + a6x00. That setup is unbeatable.

As others have answered; they don't.
In fact, Fuji X is the ONLY system that has all the lenses that I prefer: a bunch of high quality medium sized primes that fit well together with the body and have similar rendering and handling. They have some downsides like lack of full time MF override or OIS on the primes, but all in all no other system gives me the combos that I have now (xt2, 14mm, 23mm, 35mm, 60mm, 55-250 and an xe1 backup).

Mainly the bellows draw required for a 300mm lens. I've heard that telephoto designs require less bellows draw and that I can use a recessed lens board but I'm still on the fence as to whether it's worth it compared to a 240 that's a stop faster (but much heavier).

It's a long shot on whether someone has used one or not but it's worth asking.

Imagine a triangle, you have high resolution, low vignette, small size. Lens design is a case of pick 2.

Sony have decided to go big for some of their lenses and for others vignette took the hit, why, because vignettes can be fixed in post with minimal consequences when you're on a full frame sensor.

Fuji decided to drop the ball on sharpness more than anything, and that makes sense for them, they can't afford to lose 2 stops on a noisy crop sensor and they aren't looking for the best image quality so going for something big makes no sense.

And, why would i care for focus shift, the af on all my lenses works flawlessly.

And plz, look at that eye aids foreground bokeh on the fuji, it's pig disgusting.

Compared to a lens half its price and covering 4 times the image circle, what happens when you put it against the sony 55mm? Oh and the 50mm on ff still has much higher mtf values in the centre AND in the corners.

You've never used a sony before have you? Depending on the lens/situation it focuses stopped down, which is amazing for getting hyperfocal nailed easily.

also, funny how every sony mirrorless camera in past 5 years (except for a7s) suffered from overheating at some stage. Even when you think they might learn a few things from their mistakes, they release the brand new a6500 and even that one is/was a fucking coal burner.
>>
>>3018850
Video is for niggers
The a6500 doesn't overheat in hot climates, in the sun doing 30min 4k videos.

But it's irrelevant, because the quality of video from other brands is a hilarious joke.
>>
>>3018850

a6500 has no heat issues.

a6000 was the worst, it would shut down under normal usage until the firmware was updated.

Everything else has no heat issues outside of recording long 4k videos in 40+ degree weather.

>having a quarter of a stop more DR means that Nikon do it best.

Lol, no faggot, there's lots more to a sensor than dynamic range.

If you knew how to read charts properly you would see that the a7ii is better tuned for anything 1600 iso and under. Which going by my LR catalogue with my A7ii accounts for 4 and a half percent of my photos. And the A7rii assumes the position and shits all over any Nikon, in every metric.
>>
What shoulderstrap should I get for my dlsr?

>>

there's plenty of cheapy chinese speed straps, I just use one of these and a more reliable caribiner to keep my camera attached
>>
>>3018879
Spare me your kindergarten sophistry, and leave the a7rii out of it - that camera lived up to my expectations as a mirrorless d810, and is not what we're talking about, but kudos for trying to divert things.

I'll just point this out one more time. The a7ii is matched stop for stop by the a6500, and the Fuji sails away from both at high ISO. Your inability to extrapolate from this chart is amusing but ultimately not my problem.

Also, leave your fantasy photo collection out of it, I thought you were a chart nigger above all else.

Well done on choosing 2 lines with the same colour that overlap each other, really helps to read the graph.

If anyones wondering, here's where the A7ii tuning went, into retaining shadow detail at higher iso, at the cost of a minor hit to dynamic range at every iso.

I don't know where you live, but here in Europe you can boy an old East German lens or stuff from the Soviet Union for 10 to 30 Euros. I have GX8 that I like. Only problem I see is the lack of IBIS for video, and possibly "meh" shutter mechanism. I don't feel like spending 2k on a camera like GH5 that's too big for my taste, when video isn't even my main focus (I like take pictures of flying birds, insect macro and landscape). G80 looks to be the solution to turn my Panaleica 15 1.7 into a killing machine (since it has video ibis) , but I can't justify it either, so maybe I'll wait for GX9 (and hope it receives better 4k video features too, kek).

On lens side, I really wish either panny or oly would make a 90-100 macro lens, so it would be equivalent of 180mm sigma I have for my previous FF system. The 120mm equivalent oly is just not long enough for insect macro.

I also wish we would get that bloody T-S WA lens. I've looked so intensely to get WA zoom (I love WA zooms) either the panny 7-14 or the oly 9-18.. but seeing how there will be 8-18 f2.8-f4 (wide aperture where it matters) soon, I might have to settle with that instead. Still, I feel for cityscape a T-S would serve much better than a WA lens, and maybe even for landscape it might have some tricks.

Acros is a special kind of emulsion in that it can vary wildly depending on how you shoot it or what developer you use. It's specifically a fine grain low light darling with no other emulsion on the market to compete with it. It's reciprocity failure is the best in the business.
Acros digital simulation is just that, a digital preset with no real character. You may as well just shoot raw They're completely different in every way.

Hi isi.

Fujifilm's simulation of Acros is the best simulation of Acros around. Of course it's not the same as shooting actual Acros, be it 35mm or 120. But also, Acros doesn't go to 3200 ISO while looking as good.

Also, yellow/red/green filters and bareback. Real-time preview, w/ simulation output, EC, gay-ass saturation tweaks etc. applied, through the EVF.

It's like shooting a digital camera, instead of shooting a highly-advanced SLR with digital guts and very nice chimping. Much more WYSIWYG than looking through the prism and mirror, and previsualizing with an intensity as though Ansel Adams' ghost was gonna fall out of your b-hole any minute now.

So a nice wide angle lens for landscapes I think, and then something that would allow me a nice versatileish range in between (Like the fuji 18-55? possibly the cheaper 16-50?)

that a6300 kit lens is actually one of the worst kit lenses produced ever. I'd go with sigma trio of primes instead, if you want Sony and to stay on the cheap, otherwise get the x-t20 and the amazing 18-55 with it.
>>
>>3021867
The sigma dn range are sharper than anything from fuji, despite costing a third of their cheapest lens.

The kit lens for sony is shit, but you say you want to make money so I'm gonna presume you want more than kit lens quality.

A 2nd hand a7ii is a much better camera than a new a6300 though. Full frame and ibis is gonna save you over 3 stops of noise in the right situation.

You need to decide what you want to photo before getting lens suggestions, if you say a bit of landscape a bit of portrait, a 16-35 f4, 24-70 and 70-200 f2.8 is what you want.
>>
>>3021871
Samyang 12/2 is a great wide angle for fuji, cheap and sharp. The 18-55 is a fine lens, 16-50 is not recommended. Fuji lens system is pretty much complete, unlike sony's e mount. Don't get fooled with all the rage about the cheap sigma trio. You'll eventually want more, and end up wasting money on a dead end.
Now, the A7ii is a great camera on its own, but the fe mount lens ecosystem is still developing and most of the lenses are quite expensive and massive in size compared to fuji lenses. You can however adapt all kinds of old lenses which is fun and might rectify the situation somewhat.

>>
>>3021967
Yes, i can. The lens is a Helios 44M. If you want to use the lens normally, just turn the front ring to '16'. That means you can use the second ring to adjust the f-stop the full range (f/2 to f/16).

The idea behind it was to set the outer ring to the f-stop you want, then change to f/2 to get more light when you use a mirror reflex camera. Then, without having to look, they turned the aperture ring to the preselected f-stop.

You don't need (or want) this behaviour on a modern system camera. Just turn the outer ring to 16, that's it.

Well, it's not like non-weathersealed cameras die all the time. As long as you don't shoot in plain rain or in a windy desert, you'll barely experince problms with any camera at the market today. Cameras (saying modern cameras) are built for how long? 70 years now? They are all very well engineered and tight as fuck.

In fact, the weather sealing makes after some years even more problems. The sealing is nothing more as rubber. The rubber becomes hard after some years, get's cracks and holes. Would'nt be the first time a 'weather sealed' camera dies in action because the sealing failed. And then you really have the shit.

isn't the 1.4 way too big for the pro?
>>
>>3022085
Eh?
>>
>>3022087
The 23 1.4 is a relatively huge lens. I'm thinking about selling mine and get the 2.0. I'll miss everything about the lens except the size
>>
>>3022090
The combination is compact and understatement enough. If i have to go with only one lens i want the f1/4 and the slightly better sharpness.

Actually i may even consider to go with a compact camera like the new X100F or a similar camera from Sony.
>>
>>3021695
What exactly am I looking at here? Is it that Ricoh with the interchangeable sensors?
>>
>>3021973
I carry my Xt-1 and this. Hello fuji friend

>>3022164
ricoh grd1 with shade and OVF

Sony kit gets a bad wrap. It is relatively sharp for a kit, but has some major distortion issues (which can be fixed in post). A lot of the shit it got was from people putting it on older NEX cameras without a lens profile for it.

Read this and decide for yourself how bad it is:

I wouldn't go either mirrorless for serious money making though.
>>
>>3022073
>>3022080
I'd go with the 23mm F2, if I only had one lens, I'd like one that is weather sealed.
>>
>>3022090
>The 23 1.4 is a relatively huge lens
Compared to what? The 35mm f1.4 L/L II, Canon 35/f2/is, Sigma 35mm 1.4, Nikon 35mm 1.4 G? This ain't babbies first 35mm eqv lens and it ain't your M mount non-AF motor lens either.

The only thing that it's relatively huge in comparison to is the 22mm ef-m APS-C lens. All in all, for an f1.4 35mm eqv, it's in line. If you think it's too big for an X-Pro 2 body, you may just be a rampant faggot with crippled hands.
>>
>>3022238
i mean the only purpose for that lens is to have a tiny lens that gives a decent zoom range. it's the smallest APS-C kit lens by a large margin.
>>
Since the major online retailers still don't have stock for the T2 and xpro2 what are the chances that fuji actually has some of the new t20 cameras available in a few weeks?

If so many people are buying them (t2, xpro2) they can't keep them in stock hire additional production employees and ramp up production and lay them off when demand drops. Like every other major company across the planet.
>>
>>3022376

Probably still due to sensor shortage.

Sony is just getting their own mirrorless back into proper stock.

Plus the Fuji's use older sensors, so they are far from a priority.
>>
>>3022333
>35mm f2.8 equivalent ;)
And yes, there's plenty.
>>
>>3022409
Cool, post some examples. Must be f1.4/t1.4 with AF motor.
>>
>>3022376
X-T2 and X-PRO2 both seem to be readily available where I live, and this is not any sort of priority country for anything at all... Maybe the demand is smaller here, and the stuff just sells well in more active markets?
>>
>>3022414
Fuji don't have an f1.4/t1.4 equivalent, they have an f2.8 equivalent.

>>3022417
They're is no shortage anywhere, it's shilling.

>Fuji don't have an f1.4/t1.4 equivalent, they have an f2.8 equivalent.
Yeah. I'm asking for you to post lenses from other camera systems, since you bring it up. Surely you have tonnes of 35/2.8 AF lenses that you can post, right? You wouldn't be doing this if you didn't, right?
>>
>>3022417
Apparently plenty of people are now getting rid of their X-pro 2's, so local prices have fallen to like 1200€ at a KEH equivalent, plus some 350€ for the 35mm f/2 WR. Meaning that the 2200€ I spent has decreased in value rather sharply. But that's what I get for paying the high street price like a fool.

I didn't expect that the Matt Days of the world would have such an impact on pricing of even current gear. The camera is perfectly adequate for what it is (unlike any Leica), but the Pentax-tier interface geek-out isn't for everyone.
>>
>>3022421
Its not f/1.4 equivalent, it is f/1.4 you fucking mongrel.

Wont see it in production for years yet.

And when they finally do it, they will probably just use whatever organic sensor Sony produces at that time.

The fuck are you talking about? Even if you buy into the whole "equivalent aperture" thing, a 1.4 on APS-C is equivalent to an f/2 on FF, not a 2.8.
>>
>>3015008
Am I complete fucking idiot for even contemplating selling off my 14mm, 23 1.4, 35 1.4, 56 1.2 - in favor of getting a second xpro2 body with a 23 f2 (current xpro2 with a 35 f2) and the new 50 f2???????

I love the first generation fuji lenses, they're amazing optically, but these "f2 fujicrons" have the SIZE i'm after, with the added benefit of "weather resistance".

yeah was just there with my fuji xpro2 last month I'll post some pics soon, I believe I have some acros for comparison.

...which is why all the sensors they use in consumer cameras are made by Sony?
>>
>>3024237
Very few places have the fab labs to make sensor wafers of high enough quality to get anything larger than smartphone sensors off of it.

Nothing will change unless someone pays out for a brand new fab lab, sony have done this twice in the last 5 years, three if you count the rebuilt kumamoto lab. No one else has built any big facilities for sensor production in this time.

>>
>>3024365
>So how are fuji/panny going to magically produce those whatever sensors for consumers without a fab?
you realize how sony's sensor fabricator works, right?

customers (including sony's digital consumer camera division) approach with plans for a sensor.
they contract the sensor fab to make X amount to whatever specs
sensor fab deliver

Recent purchase was a Pentax K1 and some 90's glass to go with it. My next wishlist purchase would be a Fuji X100F so that I can have something to keep in my pocket. I love the Pentax, but I keep seeing pictures at work or on the road when I don't have it with me and I wish I had something in my pocket I could pull out and shoot with. Went hiking the other day with the Pentax and that was great — especially with its weather sealing considering it started to rain and I was among waterfalls. Pic related to the hike.

What is a Ricoh GR.
Forget the Fuji, it's the size of a fucking house anyway.
The GR actually fits in your pocket and is
>one of the best digital cameras ever made, a true milestone, with a design usability unmatched by any camera on the market today
according to Lloyd Chambers, one of the biggest gearfagging psychopaths on the camera-related internet.

https://diglloyd.com/blog/2016/20160123_1206-RicohGR.html
>>
>>3026432
I have a GR as my second camera. It is a really nice camera, and the picture quality it pretty good.

Two gripes thought:

- The dust, oh god it's horrid. It gets sucked into the camera. I just cleaned my sensor which was a pain in the arse to take apart and will be carrying it in a glasses case from now on in my pocket.
- No viewfinder (If you want a descent OVF they usually go for $150+) - the screen is meh.
>>
>>3026432

>Ricoh GR

As a bonus, it also functions as a fantastic vacuum cleaner.
>>
So I'm currently looking to jump into Fuji for the coming year. At the moment, I'm using the Nikon D5200 alongside a few DX lenses and shoot primarily street. Would it be a better idea to start off with a X100F or go for the xpro2 along with the 23 f2?

Wow, that sucks. I am sorry to hear that.

>X100F or Xpro 2 w/23 f2

The Xpro 2, it isn't really even a choice. The Xpro2 blows the X100F out of the fucking water.
>>
>>3026622
Personally, I would get the X100T. Not because it's better than the Xpro2 in any way, but because the Xpro2 costs almost double even without the lens. If you can spend $2200 for the body alone, then the Xpro2 is one of, if not the best APS-C body there is today in 2017. I would count whether I actually needed that luxury, and get an XT1 instead if I was going team Fuji. Plus some amazing lenses to go with it, like the 56 1.2, and 14 2.8.
>>
>>3026658
You can get the xpro2 body for 1700 new in america where is this 2200 price coming from
>>
>>3026664
You're right. Usually high end cameras come body only, but that's the price with the 23 f/2 bundle. Actually a pretty nice deal. But, the only change is that it's double the price *including the lens.
>>
>>3026622
If you shoot primarily street, get the X100. If you don't like it and you want to return to an interchangeable camera they're super easy to sell back on in 6months-1yr or whatever without taking a huge hit. It'll save you money, it's more portable, and speaking as someone who sold off his Xpro1 after buying an X100s, a lot more fun to shoot with.
>>
>>3026432
I'd agree, the x100 is not pocketable unless you're using no filters or attachments, and you have a jacket with a fairly large pocket. I love mine, but I carry it with a neck strap. Once you add on the attachment that lets you mount filters/lens hoods, you're well past the point that you could pocket it.

>>3026444
Dust is my main reason for not buying a GR...I often think about buying one of the older ones (like the III) for cheap because I'll take it to work where I'm outdoors a lot of the time, carry it in pockets, and generally just trash it. Such a shame because it seems like a killer camera otherwise.
