Hey fuckers
Can anyone suggest a decent (<£500) lighting kit for a small studio, for shooting people & products?
Just getting back into the photo game after a few years out. I've got Paul C. Buff Alienbees from Murica but I've no idea if they're any good? I can't even remember how to make them work in the UK, probably need a transformer since they're UK voltage? I barely know what I'm talking about.
Appreciate yo opinions

Buy some Godox gear off China, that's just about the cheapest option for decent enough studio lights.
I'm really not sure <500GBP is enough anyhow.
Yea you can also use a transformer, I think it will cost like 1/4-1/3 of your budget though.

How can transformers be so expensive in britbongland?
alien bee's are badass. we have some at my work that are old as fuck and still consistent and reliable lighting.

I picked this kit up for $45 not long ago. It works pretty well for a small indoor shoot.

Transformers with sufficient wattage aren't really cheap anywhere in Europe, as far as I can tell. Neither are the few services that convert certain machines to other wattages on a small scale
At least that's my limited view at retail. Maybe you could build a device from parts or get it in industrial quantities much cheaper.

If that can take one or all of your Alienbees (120 V, 6A = 720W on the spec sheet for power draw for each), that's surely nice.

>step down converter
>cheap china shit switch modes
yea good luck

You want a converter rated about 3 times the max powerdraw of the equipment you'll be putting at the end of it if you want to be on the safe side.
