I'm thinking of getting a flickr account and posting there. What are peoples thoughts on the site?

No idea, that's why I'm asking.

probably the single most useless method of self-promotion out there. it might even be worse than posting here. flickr was cool a decade ago, but at some point the world decided its best use was as a digital contact sheet.

Where should you post your photos these days?
Somehow their JavaScript lags my browser. Every goddamn time.
My opinion is that it's a nice site for checking out some lens or film or digital body, and/or pictures of said things, as long as you're willing to use Chromium for that while. I wouldn't register or post things there. 500px isn't much worse.

Instagram my guy

Yahoo allowed the NSA to track and surveil ALL of their members. Stay away from Flickr, consider 500px instead

what underground hacking and spying are you doing that you can't post your snapshits on a website filled with dads and foreigners ?
Flickr is okay, it's just nobody other than photographers uses it. Probably "dying" but with the exception of Instagram (which polarizes the fuck out of photographers), it hasn't truly been bested yet. 500px is worse.
why the fuck is it a pain in the ass to browse that site? its glitchy as fuck.
and i hate when you click a picture and a add pops up.
What's the appeal of Instagram? I messed around with it a little bit but Flickr just seems like a much better option from a purely technical standpoint.

Instagram is among, if not the best way to show non-photographers AKA most of the people you'll want to show your photos your photos. Almost nobody that uses Flickr isn't a photographer themselves, the same goes for 500px
Flickr has been consistently fucking up their site for like the past five years in an attempt to make it more social media friendly.
Nothing of value was really lost though since it was mainly dads and moms putting stuff like this on blurry bird shots.
Great picture! Wonderful! A gold medal indeed!
Ciao from Italy :^)!

>not using adblock, in the year of our lord 2017
Wow.
You can make money from having a Flickr if your shots are alright. I made about £600 last year from small license requests. More the year before that.
Get an account and hit it hard.
Post images regularly, heavily tag them, group them and map them so people can find them.
Like a lot of other good photographers - they often like back. Link people to your work with Tumblr, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.

I have Flickr account since 2013 and I never thought that about licenses.
Can you enlighten my mind about how it work? What options should I apply?
