My favorite photos are posted as high resolution jpgs on flickr where I can download them if I ever lose my own raws and processed files, when yahoo or verizon or whoever finally axes flickr then I'll find somewhere else to upload them. I doubt a thief would steal my binder full of negatives or the prints I have either hung up or stored away. I don't really dwell over my past photos a whole lot anyway, I would like to keep the final processed photos and prints and things, but it wouldn't really kill me to lose my raws and negatives.
Getting my cameras would suck a lot more because then I wouldn't be able to take photos at all. I don't have any gear which is very rare or priceless and most of it isn't worth too much anyway though, I guess I could replace all of it for a few thousand dollars. I have insurance anyway. And again, a thief probably wouldn't steal my stockpile of film either which is probably worth more than the film cameras themselves.
It would really fucking suck to get my shit stolen, but my photography stuff would probably be pretty far from the top of my concerns.

Not having insurance on your stuff is fucking stupid. I pay less than $5 a month for covering $5,000 of stuff (cameras and computer). I have zero sympathy for people who lose their shit and don't have insurance.
