>Traditional film photography makes a comeback in digital age
>A Brisbane film processor says he is run off his feet trying to keep up with people wanting to develop traditional film prints.
>"There's many professional photographers who have gone back to shooting [with] film as they can't get the quality they want from digital."

We memed film back. We did it reddit.

I wish someone would produce an affordable adapter with backlight to scan film with dslr. Something simple yet useful.
>>
>>3009928
If I was proficient in CAD I would totally hop on that.
>>
>>3009928
Yeah, I could really use some help scanning my 8x10 negs. Maybe something like a rod with a frame and backlight.
>>
>>3009928
these people came up with this crazy fucking device called a scanner.. .. in one form or another its used by every single professional lab in the country.. no labs scan film with dslr's .. i wonder why?

An iPad produces great backlight. All you need is to nigger-rig the film holder.

>>3010548
There has been zero progress in film scanners in the last 10-15 years. Hell, go to any scanner recommendation thread and you'll see people recommending Coolscan V from 2003.
>>
>>3009928
I have something similar for my old coolpix 990. In early 2000s it costed me a kidney but now it's findable for like 25 euros. It does is job and can scan both negatives and slides very well. That camera is ancient but still useful today
>>
Film will definitely come back in style, though it will never be as major as it used to be. Digital will always be the main market.

When's the cheap 120 film going to come in?

I need to do some fine art pornography

it was all depleted in previous years.

expired film was literal trash in the 00's, now its some delicacy.

lmao. way to create artificial divisions in a board with like 30 posters. fuck off.

there have been like four "film comebacks" since 2001 (the advent of digital for all intents and purposes). None of them have successfully revived film, and this won't either.

I'm all for film coming back, but I've also been doing this long enough to know that it won't.

>>
>>3011164
>>3011368
not that poster, but I don't think you're interpreting the post right

"novelty" is in the context of popular interest, of course there are die-hard film fans like you and I, who have been consistently shooting film and loving it, but we are minority and we do NOT make a market big enough.

the "film renassiance" is because there is suddenly a popular market in hipsters, lomo-fags, tumblrinas who want to use polaroids, etc which actually create enough of a userbase to warrant large scale production (lomo has been making money off these rich retards for years)

I think once the popular "fad" passes, like all popular fads do, and we are once again left with a small niche market of dedicated artists, film is going to die again.

that's just my opinion though. I personally hope it doesn't happen soon, but realistically...
>>
>>3011164
So, when did somebody make fun of you for driving a 30 year old German car with no A/C and a shit stereo, and why do you feel the need to strawman out about it now?
>>
>>3011417

allow me to say, my man, that ur fucking wrong.

at first i was cautious too, but i have seen local facebook groups that currently have LOTS of activity, nowehere near the discrete action they had last year. im talking about going from 10 usual users to about 100 or more that are posting all the time. lots of people asking for rolls, lots asking for p&s's and more serious equipment. and they are all normal people, niche hipsters are busy with their overpriced lomos and overpriced cinestills but these groups dont overlap. people are printing like crazy too. oh and i see loads of guys buying bulk bw film boxes and selling rolls, they fly the same day they are put into sale.

Even Russians buy it just to get the helios lens.

It had like 67% Vf coverage, shitty mechanics, pre-installed film scratcher - what a deal, right? And remember, if theyll bring it back, you'll only get it after hipster tax. Like they did it with 40-2 which "only" costs 300 euros.

Good luck eating Russian shit

you still need a light diffuser with an iPad as it uses something called pixels which show up.
>>
>>3012298
No, you don't. You put the iPad a few centimeters behind the film so the pixels are out of focus.
>>
>>3012265
Zenit TTL and later have a passable viewfinder. I still wouldn't use one though.

>Like they did it with 40-2 which "only" costs 300 euros

A vintage 40-2 costs the same or more, because muh swirly OOF rendering (just like on a $10 chinese CCTV lens!)

Can anyone explain me the difference between film and digital? I would definitely choose digital cause it much simpler
>>
>>3013444
digital allows you to see what you shot right away
film doesn't as it requires chemical processing.

the rest is basically technicalities
>>
>>3013450
What I meant was what's the difference in terms of quality? I already knew what you've just said
>>
>>3013450
>whats the difference between a top tier t-bone steak and a slab of processed pressed type mystery meat?
>there just protein bro, the rest is jus technicalities
>>
>>3013454
In good light / at low sensitivities, digital is better at the same format size, but film is available in much larger sizes - the smallest practical film format is the largest digital format you can get before going into 5-digit price territory.
In low light / at high sensitivities, film just sucks.

But do note that the quality of the medium only matters in context. A 8x10" field camera loaded with appropriate film beats any digital camera by far in absolute numbers, but if you try to shoot birds or Formula One with it, all that potential quality will be completely wasted.
>>
>>3013466
>but if you try to shoot birds
only cucked middle aged men do that.

>Formula One
lol what the fuck.
>>
>>3013466
Don't pretend for a second that 35mm film is actually an equivalent to modern digital. It isn't.

>Wildlife/motor sports aren't valid because I don't shoot them!
Sweet argument brother.
>>
>>3012292
Nobody here drives a Kia but nice strawman.

>buttblasted
Please. You know I'm right. The only one who cares about your $3000 POS German car is you. The fact that you admit it has no useful tech and gets shit has mileage isn't redeeming either. Go get a modern car or at least a better antique if you wanna talk shit.
>>
>>3013488
>digital is better at the same format size

>Don't pretend for a second that 35mm film is actually an equivalent to modern digital.

do you actually read the posts you're replying to?
>>
>>3013532
yeah especially the part where it said

> the smallest practical film format is the largest digital format you can get before going into 5-digit price territory.
Which doesn't matter because that 35mm "equivalent" digital is better than 35mm at every ISO and every lighting situation, not just low light, especially if you're looking at cameras like the A7r II, 5DS or D810.
>>
>>3013537
>that 35mm "equivalent" digital is better than 35mm
Yes, it is. But consider that I can get into 6x7 film for under 1000 bucks, and 6x7 digital does not even exist.
>>
>>3013569
You can easily find 6x9 folders for 2$ at thrift stores, and spend the remaining 998$ on film and developing.
>>
>>3013610
I meant something with a semblance of quality, not a 60 year old folder with a triplet lens and leaky bellows. Also you need a scanner or a quality enlarger.
>>
>>3013493
Keep posting, buddy. It's not like pic related is dessicating your derriere at all...
