``photo journalism''
so real, so profound, dat STORY of the decade
>>3007400
it's the same expression i'd make if encountered with such a scene
When you're shooting for an assignment and being paid for the photos, you kindof have to do this shit just to cover all your bases. It's still incredibly cringy when seen all together, but when you're putting food on the table with your photos, you can't afford to pass something up because it's cliched and silly. It would be much worse if the world's photo editors all ran the same picture of a shitty/tiny trash fire, but raging at the photographers for doing their job is silly.
>>3007464
no problem with photographers putting food on the table with their photos. that does not make the photo less cliched and silly tho.
>>3007462
How much did your first camera cost?

I was there, many more photographers than protestors. The ones that really irk the fuck out of me are the freelancers who carry along with the protest, shouting and demonstrating, then take pictures too and ask people on assignment if they can sell through them.
Best part was someone threw a brick at the police and caught a DC Metro cop in the face, and the cop threw it back. Best explanation of how hood DC cops are.
Also, some guy wearing a pepe the frog cape told me he would kill me for taking his picture at the inauguration.
Pics soon.
>>3007379
actually heres one from my instagram. It also pissed me off that all these people pulled the newspaper bins into the road. NYT, WaPo, whatever might be worth it, but who says fuck you to La Tiempo? They just have KFC coupons and latin articles and shit. 2/10 protestors.
Where's the guy who shoots pictures of bins with his Sony and Fuji in his back garden? He's trained his whole fucking life for this moment.
>>3007379
I thought about going to the march in my city to shoot, but I figured this is exactly what I'd find, so I slept in.
I love when shit get real and only a few stood still

Same. I woke up yesterday completely oblivious to the protests with the urge to go downtown and take some photos since it was a gorgeous day in Chicago. First thing I see when I go on Facebook to check messenger is a post from Central Camera about a mob of people marching down Wabash right by their store, and then it hit me that it'd be hell downtown.
Probably didn't miss much anyways since there were probably a billion other dudes with cameras to take pictures of angry people and toppled trash bins.
>>3007533
"democracy"
>>3007645
Same. It was so nice yesterday. I ended up just going to parks in my neighborhood instead. The loop would've been insane

>Also, some guy wearing a pepe the frog cape told me he would kill me for taking his picture at the inauguration.
I'm guessing he didn't follow through.
>>3007843
fucking wish he had.
>>3007379
Don't forget someone had to take that photo too, faggo. And that person is also a photo journalist since it has made its way to here.
>>3007379
While the photo of a garbage can is literal snapshit garbage, wouldn't you say that this photo itself of journalists taking photos of a garbage can borders on into art and social commentary about the state of photojournalism today?
>>3007941
the tv camearas are unforgivable, litrelly just filming a ssmall trash fire wtf
>>3007379
Basically playing the lottery. One of those people is going to have the best shot that is all over the internet and they will get paid well for it.
>>3007971
>journalists
Most of them look more like iPhone warrior "citizen journalists" than real journos
>>3007533
white people.
>>3007379
have we found the articles of the burning bin and how much of an riot it was?
Sort of related but does anyone on /p/ actively go out and photograph social and political events like Trump's inauguration, BLM protests, Antifa riots or whatever your country's equivalent events are? I just get this feeling that every photograph I've taken is pointless because they don't have any historical value to them. It would be like living in the Vietnam era and not photographing a single Vietnam protest or something.
>>3008458
Some trips on /p/ are like human google street view cameras for this shit.
>>3008458
I go to my country`s equivalent, but because I`m a freelancer for some medias. nice way to do make a profit
>>3008458
This was from the day before. First one I've finished. Shot 11 rolls.

I like the picture.
But I'm just commenting to say that that jacket is fucking poorly fitted. I know he's lumpty dumpty and not exactly adonis-physiqued, but this flares my autism as it's not hard to rectify.
>>3007528
>I was there, many more photographers than protestors
There always are these days, its shit. If its not the professionals with the big kit in your face when your throwing shit its the hordes of twats with camera phones snapshitting to instagram or live tweeting the thing.
It really takes the fucking fun out of protesting.
>>3007379
ironic when the actual photjoournalism is this photo, showing how this genre has degrade into shit
Trash bins need to suffer
>>3007379
Lmao I'm in the background of this photo am i famous yet?
>>3008960
>tfw you didn't get the real money shot of the photographer taking a picture of the photographers
Generation Cringe.
I accidentally ended up in an anti-Trump march while shooting photos downtown.

No, because many people already shoot pictures of these things, so you can just use their pictures. If you want to practice or are good or want to fill out Wikipedia or whatever than it totally makes sense to go do, but there are many things that only YOU can shoot. For example, pictures of your huge figure collection or woodworking project are in some ways more special in that only you could have taken the picture.
Bump for more?
Has anyone gotten harassed by protestors for taking their photos? At occupy, one guy in a ski mask was like "Don't take my picture, bro" and I was like, "dude, this is a public park"

This is why I stayed home during the inauguration, living in DC. I also had a flight at 6am at BWI the next day.
Sad that 1 hippie would have 20+ "photo journalist" shooting them when I just really wanted to see some hippies/communist getting beat to shit. That would have been a photo to define the year.
>>3017284
There sadly was next to no fash bashing, and no fashes bashing back.
>>3008458
I stumbled upon a demonstration after it was over, in retrospect I should've attempted to show up to it to take pics for the same reason you speak of.
