Hey /p/

I'm shooting a friends wedding in March, and it will be my first wedding. I've done local concerts, headshots, and business portraits, but this one I'm most worried about as it's a "special day" and I don't want to be the cause of bad memories. Now, they are very relaxed (and technically already married, this is just a ceremony) but I don't want to fuck up.

What gear is essential? I don't have the money for a second camera body, but they are paying me relatively well and I mentioned I would rent nicer lenses (the bride is a photographer) and they would reimburse me for the rentals. I have a Sony a7, but I also have a power E-Mount to Canon adapter that I use so it opens up the ability to have a wider variety for lenses.

Right now I have semi-affordable lenses which include:
Canon 50mm Prime f/1.8
Canon 75-300 (Which I rarely use, I feel the quality really lacks as it was a sub $200 lens)
Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 (Which is the main lens I would like to replace, but I'm not sure if I should stick with a Sony lens or if there is a better zoom Canon lens)

I also have two batteries, multiple SD cards and will be renting a flash (Which I need advice on as well)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Will bump with pictures of my dog because why not.

Godox V860 II should do fairly fine for the portable use. A few of them also should take care of any dessert table or such as long as you have tripods and at least mid-sized diffusers... or white ceilings or such to bounce off

Finding or setting up a background for some posed (guest, couple) shots with maybe some bigger studio strobes and a big diffuser / umbrella or two or at least more of the Godox' might also be a nice thing.

> A7
Uh, I kinda don't trust that one with its AF and all that stuff.

Rent A7R II or A7 II?

> Canon 50mm Prime f/1.8
I guess it'd work to an extent... but really, the 55mm ZA will be way better for cropping.

> Canon 75-300
Don't.

> Tamron 28-75 f/2.8
Eh, actually maybe... but preferably not

> rent nicer lenses
I'd probably feel most confident with a 85mm GM & 24-70GM or ZA. Yea, for the 24-70, a Canon L II would surely also work.

PS: Two cameras will also just be a lot safer / better to work with with two different lenses.

Oh, and a solid self-standing monopod is really good, too. Not only because it's a more sensible alternative to a tripod for crowded places, it also actually gives you a way around a bunch of random situations where shooting across a group from above is your main / only option.
>>
More things about weddings:
> The location will probably be strongly designed to just fuck with your white balance, and exposure. Randomly colored lights and walls everywhere. Also line of sight for plebtastic weddings, overcrowded object overfilled locations.
> The event organizers will love dimming or entirely turning the lights off, and they love do it in the biggest rooms possible or outside so you have maximum problems on the one dinky portable strobe that you have with you, even if you had the presence of mind to at least have a RF trigger to improvise off-camera.
> Crowd is in front of anything important and you're in the wrong location because nobody planned a spot for you with you.
If they actually planned the event with and to a small extent for you, they're probably spontaneously doing something else.
> Hard boxes and car required to keep your currently not used gear safe enough from accidental damage on site.
> Generally elevated odds of your gear being in the wrong place, get lost or cease its service.
> People get tired of your flashing lights really quick.
Not that this is an exhaustive list. But don't make your life harder than it already is. Bring really good gear.
