Maybe I'm just retarded, but how do you get light streaks but still have a sharp image of the DJ?

In my mind, light streaks means long shutter speed and moving the camera to "paint" the light across the sensor. But if that's happening, then how the fuck is the DJ sitting there crystal clear, wouldn't he be a blurry streak just like the lights?

The flash freezes the subject, drawing it completely sharp. The reason for it being this sharp, is because the flash duration is very very short.

Then he drags the camera, and the background, unlit by the flash gets properly exposed at longer shutter speeds, bluring it this weirdly.

I would probably guess he used the flash at 1/64th power (manual) mode, f5.6 and a 1-2 second shutter. ISO is probably around 200-400.

"normal" nightclub photos are shot at 1/4th f5.6 ISO 400-800 and using your flash set to manual, at 1/128th - 1/32th depending on the situation.

The low flash outputs decreases the flash duration drastically. 1/128 power is like 1/20000 duration.

You could use a higher flash output, like 1/2. If using this much flash, you would have to lower your ISO drastically and your aperture has to be tiny, rendering only the subject, with no background.
