First time here, I guess I'll just do a dump or whatever.

This'll be a dump of (most of) my all-time favorite pictures I took, including ones I just thought I did a good job with. Most of these will be from Bozeman, MT and various places in northern MT.

Almost all of them were taken with a 4/10 soccer mom camera I got from my ex when I first got interested in /p/hotography. One or two of them will be from my phone, and if I can get my computer to cooperate, I may even post a few of the others from my phone here.

If you actually want to pursue photography in any way, you need to get a better camera. Just go find a used camera that has an interchangeable lens. Then learn the basic functions of it.

Not trying to be mean, but none of your photos are really worth constructive criticism. Many are blurry, out of focus, or you shook when you took the photo. And really none of them have a subject. It's a good start that you were enthusiastic enough to even show your photos on here though. At least that's a start

No one here, except for autists, really cares what you're shooting with. I owned a coolpix before and they are decent enough cameras to learn composition on and there's nothing wrong with using your phone. However, you need to know the limits of your tools if you want to make good pics. With the phone, you can even abstain from using the zoom for that compact-y feel. When you start to feel that your shots are being restricted and can pinpoint exactly why in a technical way, do what >>2992735 says and look into better gear. Since you have no money vested into your gear yet, learn as much as you can about what is available and the type of photography (street, landscape, macro, astro, architecture, etc...) you want to pursue because it will make a larger impact on your choice of gear than your are currently aware.

Exposure is obviously going to be important, but the three things you really need to focus on first are Shutter speed, aperture/depth of field, and composition. Exposure should go without saying. Zoom really shouldn't enter your mind right now.

I would highly suggest that you get an old canon rebel with a 50mm lens. They're dirt cheap, especially if you buy it used. It'll really help out a lot.

Yeah, they are, but overall your images really seem to be lacking a subject.

But try getting something like this

For less than $200 you could at least have a fully functioning DSLR with a decent lens. You'd have RAW capabilities, nice depth of field, MUCH better image quality. Obviously it doesnt have to be exactly what I linked you, but just something like that.
