Hello, everyone. I've been into photography for about 2 years now, mostly using my phone's camera since I don't have much money, but today I finally managed to save up enough money to get myself this pack, a Canon 700D. I have little knowledge of cameras and how they work in general. I've been reading about Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed on the sticky, and I was wondering if anyone has any extra info or just some topics to check out on the wiki itself. Any help is appreciated. If you're interested, I can also drop a couple of photos I took with my phone.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful christmas.
If you are in the U.S.Community college photo classes are a great inexpensive way to learn a lot. Other than that the main thing to understand is the relationship between ISO shutter speed and aperture. Start by reading about the "Sunny 16 Rule "
Also congratulations on your camera purchase I hope you have fun learning and a merry/happy Christmas to you too

Hahaha, le pire endroit pour acheter du matériel!
The 700D is an okay camera, but a bit cumbersome for beginners. A GF3 or a Sony A6000 are better starters camera has they let you preview the way your shots will look like.
Congrats on not buying a 760D, wich is far better with its lcd top-screen and additionnal buttons.
Si tu est sur Paris, je te recommande de trouver un groupe photo sur Meetup.com. Noyeux Joël anon!

Learn to use manual, make sure to shoot a lot, study many photographers and find what style you like. Also if you're gonna take the advise of those Jared polin/northrup/ken rockwell (basically all those talentless gearfags) on the Internet, just remember that they can teach you how to use your camera but they can teach you how to be a good photographer or give you experience, if you want to take good photos either go out and shoot or look at the photos of photographers you really ljke

Nice one, Go out, take photos, learn about exposure triangle, control the photo for depth of field or motion and have fun.
Later on get a nice prime, 50/1.8 if you take portraits or the 24mm pancake if you like to take street and generic walkaround photos.
Posting a couple pics in case you guys have some advice for me.

Cuántos €?
Shoot in p mode. P stands for pro because it's the setting professional photographers use.
>>2989465
Paid 500€ in total for it, was in discount. Also, I recieved (for free) a initiation class, a book with photos, a 16gb pen and 100gb on irista.

Congrats, you're already better than Sugar!
Up the ISO in case of shooting a flying seagull.
>>2989742
I don't know who Sugar is, but thank you so much for the compliment! It really means a lot to me.
In previous times, while shooting a seagull, I ended up with too much light in the picture and it ended up just being a siluette of the seagull instead of actually seeing her colours (not sure if this makes sense, but I hope so). How do I go about that? Do I minimize the shutter speed?
>>2989473
No, shoot in M, M stands for "Mature Adult"
>>2989744
That's right, you need a faster shutter speed to freeze motions. The seagull was too small to influence the camera's calculation of the exposure. With experience, you'll learn how to get the desired results.
