Is this bait? This feels like bait. Why would you buy a camera without having a plan for what to photograph with it? If you don't have a plan, just use your phone from time to time; they're good enough for Facebook pictures.

That aside, figure out what you want to shoot, then figure out a way to do it. In the meanwhile, go out, pay attention to your surroundings, and find stuff that is worth shooting. If you really try but still can't find stuff to shoot, your the most unimaginative, untalented hack on a board full of unimaginative, untalented hacks.

And until you figure out how to shoot what you want to shoot, practice everything. Learn how to get the perspective, depth of field, exposure, lighting, etc. that you want, so when you're shooting the stuff you care about, you can get it right. Because it sucks to fuck up an opportunity for a really cool photo.

As far as portraits go:

talk to friends/coworkers and ask them to model for you even if they aren't that good looking. A skilled portrait photographer knows how to help their subject appear more attractive than they actually are by using elements of ambiguity. also, it's not like you're not developing your skill as much just because your model isn't as attractive as you'd like.

Additionally, you can always go to your local park/busy public area and take creepy stalker pictures of people you don't know. The pictures won't be close-up or intimate and It can feel weird at first but you get used to it and can get some amazing shots just shooting random people going about their business. The best shots will happen in the spur of the moment without any planning, but always consider framing and the environment, if you can.

if you want more intimate/close up shots you'll just have to ask someone though. Maybe if you offer it as a service that you're doing for free?

Don't expect every picture to be artistic. You aren't Bob Ross, nor are you painting.

You'll be taking hundreds of photo's and maybe have only 2 or 3 that look nice, but as you figure it out that number will grow.

Remember, all those nice photos you see are always one of thousands that the photographer may have thrown away or got lucky getting.

Here's what you do:
1. Shoot macro; there's always something interesting to find in insects, tiny plants or random details.

2. Make your own pictures and go abstract. Like shooting a pile of M&M's, shoot sewer drains or whatever random shit you can imagine.

3. Shoot whatever your boring daily life is. I guarantee you someone in the world will be blown away by it somehow.
I shot some pictures of the trainstation here which were dull and gray as fuck, but represented a typical tuesday afternoon. My friends from different parts of the world liked them because it shows how things are here.

It doesn't need to be art.
