I think for the focus to even be on the subject here, you needed extra light and preferably a wide aperture for more shallow DoF.
But I'm looking at the backyard and window frame. Not at him... or her.
I think you could put that girl in front of anything, anywhere, frame it any way you want, miss focus and clip highlights, and people would still love the photo.

What do you mean?
>>2962340
I mean she's a pretty, thin, young girl, and that tends to make people appreciate a photo less for its technical or artistic merits and more for the OMG IS THAT A GIRL factor.

I had totally ready what you had said wrong. Thank you though. I agree. I am very lucky man .
>>2962332
ah, thank you for reminding me to add "criticism" to my filter list!
Any thoughts on this one?

This is a good color scheme. You can't see much of her face, though. I wouldn't have gone for a side-profile shot with this setup, and even if I did I would shoot from above the chin.
also maybe use color curves to bring up the highlights
>>2962383
it's the current year, criticizing subjects is only useful if it's a self portrait
>>2962332
>eye is instantly drawn to large negative space outside
>composition doesn't lead eye where you want it to
>poorly lit face means eye isn't drawn to it at all
>>2962420
Thank you for your thoughts. I'll see what I can do with the color curves.
>>2962424
I agree with you. The lighting really isn't the best. Thanks for your thoughts. Would love to hear what you think about the other picture.

Reflect some light on her face and get rid of the distractions.
>>2962332
invest in a reflector, cheap and is the portrait photographers best friend
>>2963883
Or have her face the opposite direction, towarsds the camera and the window and put a news paper opposite of the window.
Boom, quick pretty natural light brightening up her face.

ya that would work but also defeate the whole backlit thing i think he was going for. good idea tho
