I can't stop wanting this even though it's really overpriced for that old 6MP APS-C crop sensor.

I have one, it's perfectly fine for images on the web.
Also the dials give me a boner
My dream would be for cosina voigtlander to make a modern digital bessa.
What the hell is the rewind knob for?

to take pictures
>>2941653
to cock the shutter
>>2941656
Rewind you dumb fuck, not the shutter advance. You're not clever. Shoot yourself.
It's like a function button but more primitive.

>no frame lines for 40-45mm
Stop fucking mentioning it.
Every time you mention it the price raises. Just fucking leave it for a year or two, it'll go back to being semi reasonable.
FUCKING HIPSTER TAX ALL UP IN MY SHIT.
For real though, I just got a Bessa R2 instead.
>>2941637
you and me both, I'd even be happy if Ricoh built a modern module for the GXR. I also wish manufacturers would fuck off with this high ISO bull shit and go back to the better colour and dynamic range CCD sensors.
>>2941724
>For real though, I just got a Bessa R2 instead.
Me too, I'm pretty sure film is comparable to the Epson in resolution. Paid about €150 for the body so I'll be able to shoot a ton of film until I've spent as much money on it.
>>2942022
>I'm pretty sure film is comparable to the Epson in resolution
ISO 200-400 color film, that is. Quality low-speed film like Velvia is more like 12-16 MP by my experiments, and B&W is even better.
>>2941632
>that manual shutter cock
hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggg
why cant there be more affordable digital rangefinders T_T
>>2942157
Because a quality RF mechanism isn't cheap to make, but the number of people who want to use something this impractical by modern standards is very small.
>>2942159
RFs make manual focusing really easy.
>>2942166
No, I own multiple rangefinders and slr's and rangefinder focusing is just shit, its a fucking meme, shooting at something with too much vertical lines is impossible and so is shooting at any smooth surface
>>2942166
There's a reason that RFs were ditched by 95% of people who used to make them.
And yes, I used to own multiple fixed lens RFs and a iiif
>>2942166
I recently got my hands on some rangefinders and I'm disappointed because I actually believed this meme. Focusing with a split prism and microprism is faster and easier nine times out of ten. Rangefinders are technology made obsolete already in the 70's with a lot of limitations and mechanical complexity for no real benefit.
>>2942166
RFs remained a popular meme after the invention of the SLR not because the form of focusing is nice, but because by being necessarily coupled to such a focusing system, most rangefinder lenses have historically had more accurate focus scales than SLR lenses (where the scale is often inaccurate; think to all the off infinity marks you've seen)
That precision coupled with a short focus throw that muscle memory is why rangefinders are popular with the people they are. The majority of heavy rangefinder users do not actually use the rangefinder mechanism itself that heavily, except for fine-tuning focus when its necessary. Knowing your way around the scale is how these cameras are meant to be used.
In recent years (90s rangefinder revival and onward) it's become a meme to say you prefer the rangefinder focusing mechanism, but this is mostly gearhusbandry. The Leicafags most likely to be seen actively (and strenously) using the rangefinder mechanism are the ones that are buying it to shoot their family. Seal related.

Oh, left off the other major factor: camera size
Until mirrorless cameras became a thing, the form factor of a rangefinder was a crucial part of its appeal. In this specific line of their historic appeal, the rangefinder did factor in slightly above other small 35mm options on which scale focus is the normal method of use (in other words, while someone might not buy a Leica specifically for the rangefinder, they might choose it over a Rollei 35 reasoning that the rangefinder is there when circumstances require more accurate focus than they're able to achieve on scale)
>>2942166
...as long as you have your subject in the middle of the frame, and it's reasonably contrasty.
But I can poke any point on the LCD on my camera and it'll focus there in a quarter of a second, so why would I need that?
>>2942230
Noise too, RFs had no mirror slap and usually retained quiet but slow cloth shutters. (But now we have DSLR/mirrorless cameras with almost completely silent live view/e-shutter modes, while metal shutters on Leica RFs click quite audibly...)
If you have fun using it, why not?
Just be ready to deal with shit breaking.
>>2942227
Yeah, I only actually use the rangefinder focus when taking portrait shots. for everything else I just shoot by scale focus. Sometimes I don't even put my eye to the viewfinder.
The thing that I like about using a rangefinder is that people know it's a camera, but it doesn't trigger any particular prejudice. People can't quite make out how they should react to having their picture taken by this kind of camera.
>>2942247
lol, good luck focus tapping when yr shooting sports
>>2942313

This is true. There's no culturally ingrained response in between the tourist's compact-camera snapshit and a paparazzi trying to catch the clergyman with his armpits fulla whores.
But it's also the case that with a non-TTL finder, digital shooting becomes a lot more like the same on film, as long as you don't chimp. So there's a much greater degree of pre-visualization, which -- for me at least -- leads to if not better creativity, then fewer obstacles in the form of tripping over technical minutiae. >says the guy with a brand new x-pro2 tho
