Hey manes can you guys give me some advice on shooting with color infared film. Im hoping to bring a roll with me on a trip to Yosemite in November. i dont wanna fuck up an expensive roll so any first hand advice would be cool.

These are the only two sources I've ever been able to find regarding sellers, the euro link I've heard good things from
https://youtu.be/Rw1w2TP4xrg
This is a vid link to someone who reviewed the first link, he fucked up by cheaping out on the filter.
Get a nice filter for your roll, also make sure your camera doesn't have auto wind, auto rewind, or a DX reader. It's common for cameras with those features to have IR sensors in the camera body that would cause fogging on the film
While we are at it, can I get some info on ultraviolet photography?
I got the macro lens for pentax 67 along with every extension tube. I really want to make some insane close ups like this.
Wont I have to compensate for like -20 stops though? h-heh

What filter do you rec? i dont want it to be too deep of a red
>>2936266
whoah i didnt even know this was a thing
>>2936201
Some of the things I've learned,
>Yellow 12 filter is the only worth file filter to use, don't bother with Orange or Red
>It needs to be very sunny out to get a good effect, depending on where you live and the time of year this means you might only have a few peak hours to get shots in
>Don't bother if the foliage isn't green and healthy
>Water looks really nice whenever you can incorporate it

Yeah its niche as fuck.
Seen a UV filter before (obviously not your normal filter) and it looked like pitch black glass. kek.

>So i just taped some yellow onto my lens

>$35 film
watta fuckin dumbass

yeah i love the tone it gets, like some grape juice of sorts.
you got it from filmphotographyproject? both look overexposed, could you get a "balanced" shot?
ive been tempted to get a 120 roll, its like $70 on ebay.
>>2936315
Yes I got mine from FPP. Here's is probably the best exposed shot I've ever gotten with it, the white sky is just what happens I guess. I'll post an example of a shot I bracketed an exposure stop to show the kinds of range you get. I think overexposing honestly helps the looks a bit.

do you get to see anything with infrared film that you can't see with visible light other than red trees?
ayy
>>2936369
thats cool man but honestly its mostly about the process of shooting the film for me. i feel like if i did this it wouldn't be as exciting for me as shooting a new type of film

Color infrared not so much, it's mostly just an interesting aesthetic. Black and white infrared is more useful with crime scene photography and some digital cameras have models where the IR filter is removed from over the sensor specifically for the purpose of forensic work. Fraudulent documents can usually be found through the use of IR photography. Fingerprints and bodily fluids also show up in IR photography.

Does he mean that he wishes he didn't reveal how he did his work, so others wouldn't copy him?
>>2936406
i think he means people forgot about the message and went obsessed into the technical part of his work. he fell for the "what camera" bait.
>>2936410
Oh nice, what a noble dude. Must suck to have people misconstrue ones work like that
>>2936411
must have been like what happened to alec guiness. he was in lawrence of arabia and other top stuff, but for everyone he is obi wan and gets asked star wars questions every fucking day. anything related to the franchise makes his blood boil.

>use a cheap gimmick that distracts from a real tragedy
>HURR PEOPLE ARE MISSING THE MESSAGE
>>2936424
>cheap gimmick
anything but that. looks aesthetic as fuck.
to think that book is currently $800 but when it went out it was like $50. life is neverending pain.
>>2936425
You're a fucking simp.
>>2936427
no u.
>>2936429
I'm certifiably not, and here's why:
I don't use buzz memes like "aesthetic", especially in reference to what should have been ethical documentary work.
I also know that monographs have ALWAYS been expensive as fuck, which is part of their whole allure. That's why I don't act gobsmacked when a work put out by a photographer with cachet is expensive.
>>2936431
wow wer so smert
So whats the best film to use? The Rollei color stuff? Youd think the expired kodak film would be an unwise idea
What else? The yellow 12 filter? Do you have to compensate stops at all? I figure the filter itself must be -2
>>2936651
use the proper film, kodak aerochrome.
>>2936266
Yeh, you need a quartz lens.
And you know a lot (most) camera bodies don't work with ir film right? And you need to have a lens with ir focus marks or everything will be out of focus.
>>2936727
Why the hell wouldnt they work with IR film? Camera body cant work with film? A camera is a fucking box with a removable hole in it. I would just prefocus and then screw on the filter for fucks sake. kek.
>>2936727
Besides you dont use IR film to get ultraviolet. Jesus Christ. Its Ultraviolet photography. Opposite end of Infrared.
>>2936809
Pentax 67 does not have an IR component to fog the film. That's specifically why I mentioned it you cunts
>>2936727
You're retarded, any manual camera will work with IR film as long as it doesn't scan DX codes. I've never seen a manual focus lens without IR indicators and even then you only need to compensate for focus with B&W IR not color.
>>2937030
You dumb son.
Dx codes aren't scanned, they're read via electrical contacts.
Plenty of mf lenses dont have ir indicators (i have around 50 lenses)
You do have to shift focus with colour ir film
Plenty of bodies will fog ir film
All of this information is freely available on the internet via a short google search, thanks for showing us the depths of your knowledge and how wrong it's possible to be in just 2 sentences.
>>2937366
>Dx codes aren't scanned, they're read via electrical contacts.
Ive seen this a lot as well but I think they say that because most cameras that have DX readers also have IR counters.
Your right about everything though some people are straight too retarded to find easy to obtain information.
>>2937376
Personally, i look forward to the "lab ruined my film" thread in 2 weeks time.
>>2937397
too much kek, I'll keep an eye out as well
I want to try shoot some infrared film. My question is i use a mamiya 6 im having trouble finding any information relating to its internal operations. Does anyone know if a mamiya 6 use any internal infrared systems during operation? I know it has no dx reading and no windows or uses an infrared frame counter. So would i be safe to use infrared film in the 6?.
Cheers also what was mr mosse using camera wise?
If you shoot Kodak EIR/Aerochrome (same film) you need a yellow 12 filter and a lab that does traditional dip and dunk e6 processing. Shoot on sunny days and set the ISO to 400. Use the IR dot on your lens for focus adjustments. For example, if you don't use the adjustment and set the focus to infinity the focus point will be behind the film plane (almost all my images are soft because I didn't know this). Try to shoot smaller apertures when you can to give you greater probability of getting things in focus.

I've been looking at this guy. His filters are pricey though. Not sure I trust some random asshole when I don't see any public-facing, proper-website-running outfits doing this shit.

IR film is fine in the 6. Nothing to worry about. Mosse shot using some type of LF camera.

bruh ive only ever owned like 10 mf lenses and they all have the ir indicator and i didnt even know what it was when i bought them. what pos lenses you buyin?
