there's this annoying fucking thing on my viewfinder.
Cant seem to find where it physically is. I can see it on the mirrors, but cant pin point where to brush/blow/scrape.
It doesnt show up on pictures though.
Help? It's triggering my OCD.

Is it still there when you take off the lens?
>>2926855
pic from inside
>>2926856
most likely culprit is the focusing screen
>>2926856
Yep. Seems to be somewhere between the viewfinder and the mirror, but reflections have always fucked with my head so cant orientate myself.
>>2926859
Right there, on the other side of the focusing screen. What camera do you have?
>>2926858
It's kinda translucent. I'm thinking could it be some sort of rot due to age?
I mean, it's really no biggie since it still takes pictures fine, and it doesnt show up on digital viewfinder.

have you tried to open the bottom of the viewfinder? Just be careful cause its hard to reassemble the first time.

D3100. Google cleaning the focusing screen and my hands are too shaky to do something that needs finesse. Suppose I'll just put up with it.
Thanks /p/.

Well, i tried to kind of loosen the prism a bit and noticed that the thing moved, so i gave it a few taps on the table and it disappeared.
All's good now. Thanks again /p/. You guys'll alright.

There is no prism in that camera

very, very carefully, take a tweezer tool or something and push how I showed here, towards the front of the camera, and swinging out of that small latch in the middle.
That silver bar surrounding your focusing screen will come loose, and swing down. This will enable you to access the focusing screen and clean the viewfinder prism area. Remember how this went in, and write down how you know which side is up, and which side is toward the front of the camera.
If you wanted to change out the focusing screen for something different, this is also how you do it.
Use gloves or your stupid cheeto-stained fingers will leave prints. Clean gently with q-tips and rubbing alcohol. Leave to air-dry for 30 minutes. Use a blower tool for the prism area.
Position the screen how you had it before, because you wrote it down like I told you. Panic because you didn't write it down. Cry and put the camera on the shelf, never to be used again.
Or just send it in for a CLA, because the seals are probably getting old and need to be replaced if stuff like this is coming loose.
