My photos are pretty much shit by you guys standards and by the photography community at large. I'm new to the field but I really like it and I take pictures with my babbys first rabal nearly every day. I'm going to use this thread to post what I think are my best pictures from every day and what you guys are going to do is either ignore it, insult it or, hopefully, provide some genuine criticism. I've got more than a few in the magazine now. I'm going to post a few and go from there.

Thank you! I genuinely appreciate the feedback. I'm going to upkeep this thread and hopefully with the feedback and the daily picture taking I can hone my abilities.

I like this one. Do you know how to edit in light room?
>>2921300
I use lightroom everyday but I wouldnt say I know what I'm doing. I usually bring down the highlights, come up a little with shadows. Whites and blacks and only slightly adjust to make blacks true. Then adjust exposure & contrast depending on how dark/light/washed out the image is after adjusting. Like I said. I wouldnt say I know what I'm doing. I know not to make the colors look unrealistic or touch the clarity slider though.
>>2921300
Same image before lightroom adjustments.

Found out today that taking pictures in the woods is pretty difficult. The scenery is amazing but its hard to capture. Any tips?
>>2922856
I mean...don't put your subject's face behind branches. That's a start.
Isolate your subject and use a wide aperture so you're not pulling in background details if you're going to shoot portraiture.
>>2922892
Yea. Thats pretty obvious lol. Thanks for the help!
What I mean though is, I took some shots of the streams and stuff in the woods. A lot of foliage and rocks and wood. They looked amazing in the view finder but it looks so busy on the computer. Some that I took were multiple exposure images and once I merged them they just look too sharp and really busy. I am pretty disappointed as I thought I'd had got some great shots until I put them on the computer. Live and learn I guess.
Did some portraits for a buddy. he paid me but he probably shouldnt have. I've never done portraits before, it was way too dark but I got a couple decent images out of it.

You should be at f/8 or so to have everything in better focus
But then again the kit lens is never going to be super sharp. Also you've got the gold standard in post processing software. Learn to use it!
>>2924538
Agreed. I just saw the f/4.6 and wondered what I was thinking there.
As far as LR goes I am working on it every single day. Thanks for your feedback!
One more from the atrocious portrait shoot.
Ultimately he was super happy. He knew the conditions werent optimal and it was spur of the moment.

I realize the f/1.4 shouldve been higher for this one as well. She wouldve been in focus with a few steps higher and I couldve still got the bokeh-ish bg.
>>2924521
Horrible edit.
>>2924548
Hahah, I know. I knew going in that is was going to be bad. I told him they'd be bad. I was also super fucking nervous as he had just proposed to her and I was in on it. I totally shit the bed. Fuck portraiture.
>>2924534
>>2924540
Portraits look best with large aperture if there is one person. If there's many people, use smaller aperture and just try to find less busy background. High enough shutterspeed to reduce motion blur. Also, use Lightroom to set the correct color temp, it can be pretty difficult, but at least your subjects won't look like abstract paintings. I usually also take away some saturation or fuck with individual color sliders. Red face never looks good.
>>2924530
Key to any successful photo is light and composition, but when taking pics of nature, the best way to do it is to capture the most data possible and bring it to life in post processing. Again, the right color temp is important, but depending on the scene, you can go really crazy with everything else. Usually exposing for the highlights create more contrast and the colors pop. Clarity, vibrance, gradual and radial filters are your friends, use them visely.
>>2924567
And also to add, remember to use the correct color space. Since you're a beginner, just set everything to sRGB, in camera and in lightroom.
>>2924521
Did you edit it so the tower looks like a big black dick on purpose?!?

Theres nothing particularly wrong with your shots dude. Your portraiture work is a bit weak - but portraiture can be the most difficult type of photography, particularly on a budget. I suggest that you invest in a flashgun and a curly cord for it so you can play with getting light from different angles and bouncing it off walls.
Also - be playful with your photography. You dont have to stick to traditional conventions when it comes to photography. Get under your subject matter, or shoot it from directly above, or at a skewed angle that captures more than one subject.
As for the stuff you have posted I liked >>2927484 and >>2927495

Thank you! I do have a flash and remotes to work with. I just barely broke into using them for some work related stuff though. i guess I should use it more. Thank you again for the feedback.

Dude... you're going down a bad road.
Watch the HDR bullshit.
>>2933403
The only reason I took it up was this was a multi-exposure shot and I was testing out photomatix. I'm NOT a fan of HDR photography so I tried not to go too far over the top with it. It's mostly just vivid color and clarity in those two shots of the car.
Might be my emotional connection to my family in the photo but I really like this shot. Thoughts?

Never move the clarity to the right. Just to the left like -5
>>2933408
I know clarity is the "newb" slider and it should nearly never be touched. I was trying to match an HDR style without it being too loud.

What you said. Can I bang her? She's hot.
>>2922856
She's an interesting looking gal, use her wisely.
I don't find it difficult at all. Why are you saying that?
The advice I can come up with right now: Try to make her pop, separate her from the background, use every tool at your disposal like wide aperture, colors, contrast, lights etc. I'll share one that hopefully shows what I'm saying.

>invites people to show respect to his photography
>says "my photos are pretty much shit"
You must feel your work is good or else you wouldn't share it. Show some respect for yourself and speak like it. You don't need to be shooting on a 6billion dollar camera to take a good pic anon
>>2921215

I mean, I think they are good but I am just starting to scratch the surface of knowing what I am doing. My photos dont get a lot of good feedback from other photographers, hence my comment about them being shit. I agree that you dont have to have an amazing camera to take good pictures. I'm totally ok with my rabal. I'll upgrade eventually but not because I think a better camera will improve my photos.
