Got a scanner today, Epson Perfection V550. Scanned in some snapshit I shot 3 years back on 12 years expired Kodak Gold 100. My question though, what is /p/ scanning with, and what are some tips to achieve the best results?

mind uploading a scan in full resolution at maximum dpi? I'm interested in what it looks like.

max dpi is like 12800, thats like +1gb per photo, upload limit is 5mb. This is 4800dpi compressed to jpeg on '9' in photoshop. Also, I had good reasons, the guy was even a greater asshole than I am.

Havn't cleaned the film with alcohol, and it was my first try. I know the photo's on itself are quite shitty, but I'm quite sure my scanner can do better then the ones i've made today.
That coolbox setup looks fucking unworkable, how can you make decent pictures that way..

Last scanning session I did 10 rolls of 35mm, first frame was at 11:15, last frame was at 12:38.
With all camera sharpening turned off and a flat tone curve applied, exported a jpg and inverted, they look like this.

this was a colour negative right? Looks really decent though, nice result.
>>2907338
Of course, this film clearly has more resolution than what is being shown here, we're running into the limits of the 18mp AA-filtered rabal.
But the great thing about DSLR-scanning is that you're in charge of the optical configuration, so you can project as big or as small a magnification of your film onto your sensor as you like, provided you have the lenses for it. By increasing magnification to 1:1 on the crop sensor, and stitching 4 shots together, you can get quite a lot more from a sharp frame if you want to print it wall size.
>>2907341
>this was a colour negative right
This one is. It's been edited though.

Friendly suggestion: Fill the frame with your subject. What you're doing (not filling the frame with subject) is a very common mistake with photographers who don't have experience shooting portraits and here are the two most common causes. Either you lack the confidence to shoot tight, or you're just using center focus and being lazy about your crop.
Pro Tip: Don't be scared to shoot tighter, it's perfectly okay to crop the top of a head, crop an arm, crop a hand, etc, despite what many autistic plebs will say on /p/
>>2907603
Thanks for the advise! To think of it though, most of the times I'm quite tight on frame filling. With this set it was my first roll on a new camera, being quite new with analog photography, so I guess it was a 'better shoot shit than nothing' kind of situation. But it was a good three years back, so can't really remember..
I've brought some Ektar 100 to the store, if this thread is still up by Wednesday I'll post them.

I dunno, and you need to remove those Newton rings in pp
>>2907603
I like the style actually, it works well in some scenarios.
What film are you using for these, OP? I want to start getting super sharp 35mm scans but feel like getting a new scanner is only half the problem.
>>2909268
I'm experimenting a bit now. Cleaning the film with Isopropyl helps ALOT, also, using good optics (Me: Nikon F80 and 50mm 1.8G) and a decent scanner I guess. Gonna pick up my first developed film of Ektar, gonna try my best to ge them as clean as possible.
>>2909268
It's been a while since I've seen this guy's stuff mentioned on /p/, but I'd highly suggest you invest in a holder from Better Scanning. It's a guy who makes custom high qualify glass inserts that are the perfect height for specific scanners. Definitely worth a few bucks to upgrade from the shit that comes with a scanner.
>>2907291
Those look really nice. I scan with a Nex camera and a macro/enlarger lens (I use Rodenstock Rogonar-S 50mm) and it gives really nice and sharp results on 8.0. Pic related. I just bought this lens yesterday and I'm hyped.

What software do you use for scanning?
Vuescan Pro (pirate it) is worth getting, allows you a lot greater control over your scans, and you can scan to linear RAW files for better post processing.
ColorPerfect is worth the cash (imo) to create great colour scans from linear RAW files. There are cracked copies floating around but they don't work properly. It's the easiest way to make great looking colour scans
>>2909744
Pirating Vuescan is a pain in the ass. Entering activation codes everytime you're saving a picture, ffs
>>2909745
You have to block VueScan from accessing the internet, so that it can't access the registration server. Read the readme file you got when you pirated it, it'll tell you how to do it
>>2909744
Here's an example from this setup. Scanner is a Plustek 8100, downsized from a 7200dpi image. Scanner is pretty decent. I could probably get better results with a DSLR but it's less effort to use a desktop scanner, and I don't need 10/10 quality since I'm only posting to the web and making 8x10 prints.
Film is Kodak Ultramax

For now I'm just using the software that came with the printer, It's working out for me so far.
Here is the last photo, only now I've cleaned it with isopropyl. You can see it's way smoother, the newton rings in the bottom are gone as well. It also looks a bit sharper.
