>>2906897
Do you have instagram/500px/tumblr?
I really like your style.
>>2907047
I cannot comment about VSCO because I never really seen what those look like; the reason they look like film or that "I am trying to make it look like film" is because film respects complimentary colours & anyone who even briefly studies colour theory understands the importance of it.
>>2907427
I've been thinking of making a Tumblr. I do have Instagram but I don't feel like sharing it at this time, sorry.

honestly probably the best photos i've seen on /p/ in years. I don't even know why I came to this board today but i'm glad I did
also, I would ask for your tumblr but I'm not suprised you won't give out information considering your only responses have been from that samefag retard who keeps making unfunny jokes and their clothes, a bunch of
>hurr white borders are u isi
>hurr ur pictures are technically underexposed
that said, there are some things you can work on:
1. that the pure white border looks unnatural. choose a lesser white or drop the border
2. if you're going into fashion photog or portraiture, you need to make sure that the lighting isn't too harsh for the skin.
on the close-ups you're unintentionally accentuating the acne, blemishes and dry-skin on their faces
>>2907862
>honestly probably the best photos i've seen on /p/ in years.
>>2907903
its been nothing but garbage for a long time. feel free to dispute my claim by linking some garbage pictures of black and white old men with wrinkly faces or some "street" photography which is just some random people walking on the sidewalk with muh artsy film-filters applied. or maybe some of those lovely """"color-studies""""" or "I'm just testing my camera" shots?

>>2907990
how do you process these pictures? they're looking pretty good mayne
>>2907994
Taken in Hong Kong (irks me the focus is missed)
>>2908011
My process is a bit complex since it varies with the lighting and tone situation. A general rule of thumb I follow is to turn every picture black and white first and open a curves layer to adjust my tones and contrast (colour is distracting for me at this point so I nullify it). Then I delete my black and white layer and just fuck with the colours with complimentary colour in mind until I like it.
Really nice pictures, OP.
I guess you're not a full time photographer, so where do you get your models?
>>2908016
>>2908017
Most of these people are actually my friends. It is my philosophy that any decent photographer can take a great picture of anyone regardless of how they look, I feel if you NEED a great looking person just to produce a good image then you're pretty amateur. Lately though I realized once your body of work stays consistent enough, you can ask anyone to model for you and they'll generally say yes. I hope that answers your question!

>>2908023
why do you add a white border to your photos?
>>2908027
>how do you approach modeling?
I don't quite understand this question. You mean like how do I approach modeling agencies? A few of my local agencies approached me instead & truth is I never booked any models from agencies before...but if you are keen you just simply email them. Tell them you are interested in doing a test shoot with their "developing" models, the ones who lack a portfolio. If the agency likes your photos they'll give you a hollar (and yes it will be free).

Wither my reason is justified or not idk, but for me I feel the borders help "contain" the tones and colours from external elements like the background of a webpage or the particular browser you're on. It separates the edges of my photo so the tones & colour don't blend and extend past the image itself.

should a amateur in photography add borders to their photos?
>>2908045
holy fuck shut up.
>>2908044
white borders also help the viewer determine just how bad you're fucking up the post processing. ;)
>>2908045
Ultimately it's up to you, as the photographer, to decide how it's best to present your photos. Don't let the retard border nazi's on here tell you otherwise. Do what you think looks good & if you feel down the road it doesn't, then change your method. That's all there is to it - being an amateur has nothing to do with it.

You sound really amateur. How long have you been taking photos & studying photography?
>>2908063
>You sound really amateur. How long have you been taking photos & studying photography?
About twenty years.
I like how you're just spewing shallow, superficial tripe about the most basic split toning possible and trying to make it sound like you're some master artist.
Your base photos are fucked up, and then you try to cover up your total lack of technique with basic bitch instagram-tier processing, borders and a coy attitude.
Are you the guy that was posting pictures from a tennis court a year or two ago?

Ironically it's you two who are clueless about composition. If you truly believe that the rules of composition is so static & believe professional shooters follow the same strict guidelines as you losers then I suggest throwing your camera in the trash and then yourselves.
A photograph is just information of lines, geometry, and story. If I can create better geometry, alignment of lines, and story by disregarding the conventional rules then I will. Deal with it nerd.
>>2908069
I mean, you're welcome to believe that if you want to, but this board has always been "toxic", and there used to be a surfeit of talent around here. I've been here for nine or ten years and I'm pretty sure the attitude isn't the problem. This is 4chan, after all.
>>2908072

If you've legitimately been shooting for 20 years, that means you're at least in your mid thirties.
If you're in your mid thirties and still using phrases like "basic bitch", you're a tool.
>>2908072
Yes because I am the only person in the world who had the idea of shooting in a tennis court, yeah that was me anon. Every tennis photo on the planet was taken by me. For my next shoot I'd like to take photos of me killing you in one too for saying something this dumb.

First camera was an old vivitar 110. Moved on to my mom's x370 when I was old enough to be trusted. Had one of those old pen cams that shot in something like 320x240 or MAYBE 640x480 for my first digital camera.
And, I mean, you can call me a tool all you want, but that doesn't disprove anything I've said, and just makes you sound like a sniveling little baby.

>>2908092
I never claimed I was a master at anything, I was simply replying to your super blunt comment with a super basic reply. What do you expect me to write a fucking essay each time a person decides to offer a incredibly bland remark on my photos?
>HURR DID U TENNIS FOTO 2 YEARS AGO TOO
I have complete archival memory of every tennis photo posted on /p/ few years ago & my answer is kill yourself lol.
>>2908099
Having a camera doesn't mean that you were learning anything or doing anything other than snapshitting, which is not "shooting for 20 years". That's like trying to get a job as a mechanic because you've changed your oil for two decades.
As for "disproving you" I couldn't possibly give less of a shit. Those aren't my photos, nor is anything in this thread a style or genre I remotely care about. The fact remains that you're still a pathetic shithead for attempting to appropriate instagram lingo while shitting on the instagram aesthetic. Gramps, you're no longer capable of being cool. Attempting to do so is just sad, not to mention rather hypocritical while appropriating one aspect of a scene while shitting on other aspects.

This is fucking /p/ lmfao; having the most autistic 31 year old poster who doesn't know about colour is the least of my concern.
>>2908107
So, wait, teach me about color again?
When I'm using the split toning tool in Instagram, I need to make my highlights cool if my shadows are warm? This is an fucking earth shaking insight, man. Don't let the word get out on this. Your highly specialized, very unique look will become totally generic if the masses find out about this pro tip.
What do I do if I want my highlights warm?
>>2908106
I'm not triggered; I just found it incredibly hilarious that he still recalled some generic photo years ago and the fact that he brought it up and expected I or anyone else had a clue what he was talking about just blows my mind. It's like saying "hey I don't like your photograph. Did you take the one with that tree few years ago because that was bad too"
Killing him was the only reply I could think of at that point like lmao what would you do in that situation what could you do???
>>2908113

Let's just say if you wash the cum out of your eyes you can you read the post correctly and b8 better ;^)))
It's amazing how people keep posting in the RPT's being like "these threads are this board's cancer, nobody posts critiques blah blah" and then when someone does make a thread you get this kind of shit show.
>>2908023
I remember seeing this one in the RPT a while back. I really like it, almost a giallo kind of feel to it. Some of the others are quite decent but this still stands out.
Please just power through this bullshit and post more if you've got them on hand.
>>2908122
>he still recalled some generic photo years ago
>and mistook it for mine
>>2908126
It's understandable how he came to that conclusion with such poor knowledge of photography such as his. I'd be angry too if I shot for +20 years and still sucked.
>>2908125
I agree with some other anon above how the quality of post's fallen. I posted my Instagram a while back and did connect with some other really talented shooters and we discussed this a little. Back then the pictures I saw were more diverse and many of their approaches challenged mines in terms of how to shoot and composit. You were able to learn many things, but now majority of "criticism" just falls into the realm of "I don't like your style it is wrong, there is only 1 object way to photograph this". Because of that toxic mentality you don't get a whole lot of variety anymore. It hurts the beginners and more experienced shooters alike. That's my 2 cents anyways - cheers!
