The angle should be alright I think, it's what most people use for walking vlogs and the like.

Stock audio sucks, yeah. An external mic will fix a lot of that, though, especially if you use something like a lavalier. (Which will also help with background noise.)

I can't even count how many times I've seen people make the mistake of blowing their budget on video and ending up with shitty audio because they relied on their camera's built in mic. Consequently, their videos are unwatchable due to wind noise, ambient noise, and horrible audio quality.
Keep in mind that most people will forgive so-so image quality as long as the audio is solid, but nobody will forget if your audio sucks.
I would encourage you to get a handheld digital audio recorder. something like the Tascam DR-05 only costs around $80 new, and you can add a lavalier mic or shotgun mic on a boom as needed.

I have a Sony as20, action cam, it's the shittiest one but the audio is truly great, more than enough for vlogging. Also it has a 3.5mm in jack.
