Nigga, I've taken around 5,000 shots in 2016 so far. That's more than twice the amount taken during 2014 and 2015.

>>2883051
Pictures are utter shit because you lack everything a photographer needs, including talent and a solid mind. Having a camera will not make you a photographer, even if your mom paid for it.
>>
>>2883053
The muddy colours are gross. You framed the subjects too far to the right. You fucked up the symmetry by including more sand than water. Overall it had potential to be great, but ya fell short.

Better, but like I said, too far to the right. Meme of thirds would have worked, but I feel centering the subjects would have given the best results.

>>gifted a $500 dollar Nikon DSLR
>>have taken 100 photos in the last week

pro tip, it's not the camera
>>
>>2883069
still worthless.
Don't ever do a top 50% split unless the whole of the bottom and the whole of the top are interesting subjects.

Instead, in your bad picture, 90% of bottom is ugly muck and sand with nothing and 90% of the top is ordinary fucking water.

By including that 90% of noise, you've managed to shrink the people to the point where there is zero detail or emotion or story-telling from looking at them, as they just look like random people in the distance (a 3rd thing people can see every day of the fucking year no matter where they live)

At your level of no-experience, you'll be better served by sticking to rule-of-thirds and keeping subjects close enough you can nail focus on their eyeballs.
>>
>>2883084
Man you must hate minimalism with a passion.
>>
>>2883085
I won't waste my time laughing at you thinking ugly picture with bad framing and bad subject is "minimalism"

You know that literally everyone here knows that your gear wasn't worth close to five grand, right?

And that you haven't taken anywhere close to 100 photos in a week (which itself is a tragic, pitiful number).

And that they all suck, not "most" of them?

Or are you "trolling" us again?
>>
>>2883267
>You know that literally everyone here knows that your gear wasn't worth close to five grand, right?
This.
It was a handful of broken old film cameras, and a 5Dinosaur you'd dropped about a thousand times with an obsolete as fuck 17-40.
I have no doubt you let yourself get assfucked on the prices when you bought them, because you're a fucking moron, but the actual sale value of all that crap would struggle to break $2000. Like really struggle.
As in seriously, who would even shoot a 5d classic that was given to them for free? My 6 year old rabal has a better sensor, for fuck's sake.

nothing. most people see you and move on with their lives forgetting you in moments. Only socially awkward persons will obsess with what others may or may not be thinking of you

of course the size of the town makes noticing the same person there, but if you're snapping the same thing every day you need to broaden your horizons

I hope you're not joking because I feel similarly. I don't keep buying equipment, but I constantly feel bad about not using the gear I have, so in turn I never use it. This mentality permeates my whole life and I end up wasting time lurking on 4chan and doing jack shit. There's no end in sight...

I take a gorillion snapshits on my digital, but am too scared to "waste" a single shot on my film, so I don't use it... but I wish I'd use it more often.
>>
>>2883758
As long as you love going out and shooting and you actually go out and shoot, I wouldn't feel too bad about it.

I also suffer from lack of artistic ability and understanding. I feel like a complete retard for not knowing what makes a good photograph, or good art in general. I just don't ``get'' it. It's like it's right in front of me and I can't see it, I'm blind!

/p/ can you explain how i was able to spend $1500 on good gear that I use 1/20th the time compared to a computer that I've spent at most $400 on even though its where like 18/20 the other time goes.

Not sure how I feel. I got good deals on it and I'll likely keep them for a long long time, but it just feels weird putting that much into something I only picked up a year ago. Anyone else know what I mean?
>>
>>2883299
Never. it's called marketing.

>>2886107
You spend more time on your computer because you're a shut-in neet. the simple solution is to go outside and take more photos.
>>
>>2886107
The results from having a new fancy camera are more immediately noticeable. Like, you get a good zoom lens, now you can zoom good. Instant gratification.

I didn't even realize my computer was obsolete until it broke and I got a new one. I'm a software engineer and am on it all day. The computer was okay when I bought it and does everything that fits my habits, so I didn't realize it had gone to shit.

In the two years I've been doing photography, I've spent about $10k on gear. I started just to have something do.

In the 15 years I've been writing software, I've spent maybe $3k on computers.

I can't explain that.

Man I'm really slacking, I've only shot around 4k this year. Back when I was /p/ro I'd shoot 50-100k a year, often 10-15k over a single event. (Multi-day auto racing stuff with two bodies blasting at 9fps all day.)

I should really go shoot something, but it's hard to get interested in spur of the moment stuff nowadays, and I don't have a wide angle for my new system yet so I'm not really geared up for landscape etc.

>I don't have a wide angle for my new system yet so I'm not really geared up for landscape etc.

That's such a god damn stupid, gearfaggy excuse. You aren't shooting landscape photos because you're a lazy fuck, not because you don't have a wide angle lens.

I took this with my iPhone when I first started getting into photography. Is a sentimental shot because I will probably not see my friend for a long time. (Blue beanie out of focus)

You guys spend so much and feel bad afterwards because you get into this too hard too fast

Start out slow and small and cheap. If you like it after a few months or something then you can start dropping $$$ on it

This goes for like every hobby. If it gets boring then it's not for you. Spending thousands of dollars on equipment won't change that.

It's pretty crazy when you're on deadline. The usual routine was just to blast through them as fast as possible with Photo Mechanic, and then stop as soon as I'd found enough solid shots to suit the article. It helps that I could usually jump to the points where I knew the relevant stuff would be, and with auto racing it's pretty easy to ID the winning car or whatever from the thumbnails.

I still go back into my archive and look through old stuff once in a while, though, and I always come out with a few new gems.

>>2886553
Say what you will, but I've been doing this long enough to know the locations and subjects around here, and the photos I want to take require something wider than 35.

>buy roll of tri-x for $5
>shoot it with a $20 compact camera
>10 keepers

digital is so good though, amirite guys?
>>
>>2888299
Well just think about this, right?
You bought that CF card for $40 and shot 3 keepers. But tomorrow you can use that card again. And the day after, again. And in 4 years. And if you're lucky, perhaps 10 years.
You may, in that CF card's lifetime, produce over 1000 keepers.
But on that roll of film, you will only produce 10. Only 10. You can't ever change that, you need to spend another $5 on more film to take more photos.
Not to mention the 5DMKIII can hold a SD card as well.
>>
>>2888311
Oh I know, I know the analog vs digital logic. I don't own the 5d for reference, comparing my hitrate vs my roommates at an event yesterday.

By the time I have run $3000 worth of film through my compact (the cost of his setup) I will have 6000 keepers. Im okay with that
>>
>>2888299
Your attitude towards digital is what is gettging in the way.
It's like you are afraid to expose a film unless you have really thought it thru, while on digital you just snappity snap like a soccer mum.
I might be wrong, but so far the vast majority of people that claim film is god do it like that.

(also, you are comparing tri-x to 5d3, who are you kidding, pig disgusting, ever considered a real camera?)
