Just saying it doesn't make it true, anon. The colors are 12 feet past fucked. The light is flat and bland, because Sugar can't be bothered to wait for good light. Not making the reflection super dark? Really? It looks like shit, but at least you don't notice, because you SHOULD be laughing too hard at the sky, full of clouds that are the absolute wrong color, and blown out in the highlights, because Sugar apparently doesn't know about masking or blending modes despite being a digital photographer (and processor) for years and years now.

The horizon is also not level, the composition sweeps you out of the frame to the right, and the only strength in the image comes from the reflection which is way too wavy and uneven to stand up tall enough to make the photo memorable. The only thing acceptable about that entire image is the focus. There's even a huge fucking chunk of dust in the top left of the frame.

Some have much to be desired, but there are some promising shots in there that look lik total shit, only because their colors are way off. If you can't get your monitor to calibrate, you should do white balance by numbers. Drop color samplers on what you know should be a shade of gray, and adjust your white balance or color balance so that the values are within a range of 10 or so. I've had to edit by numbers before. It's not the best, but it helps to fly by the instruments, so to speak.

I'm not really well versed in wide angle stuff, so all I have to go on is the horizon, which looks really flat to me. Could you help me learn by pointing out where the distortion is so I know what to look for next time?

Sure thing. The No. 1 thing to look for in a lens like this is the edges. Unless you get into fisheye lenses or really crazy as fuck wide angles (e.g., 11mm), then you shouldn't have a fucked up horizon. The edges, however, get stretched out, almost like they're being pulled away from the center.

In this show, the clouds are obviously stretched and elongated near the edges, but an easier thing to see might be the houses/boats along the bottom corners. Look at those utility poles in the bottom right: See how they look bent, as though the tops are leaning towards the center and the bottoms are being pulled towards the corners? That's classic wide angle distortion.

With wide angles, you an get straight lines, but they are not square in relation to each other. So, look for things that they have right angles (e.g., the power poles in relation to the earth). Things like that should be a perfect 90 degrees, but here the angle is much lower. Same for buildings, with wide angles, building angles can get crazy distorted towards the corners.

A lot of it can be corrected to some degree or another in Ps, but the success of correction really depends on how bad it is in the first place and how good the editor is.

Also, this processing is full as fuck. Look at your histogram. Why they fuck is your white point so fucking far towards the center? Fix that shit. I don't care if you're going for some faded, retro bullshit look. That's fine, but this is just dull and lifeless.

Finally, this is just yellow. When you've got a really dull exposure range and you couple it with a slight yellow tint, it just looks like piss.

That being said, this isn't a bad idea for a photo. Your bike is too close to the edge of the frame to really work, but it's not a bad idea.

Play with it a little I got a few like that I did, we were on a downhill when I shot it coming out of New Mexico. I was also into the sun so I tried to fix up the contrast and colors a bit so it didn't look washed out.

This is quick a sloppy, but I think gets the point across. That cyan haze on the mountains is so damn strong that it's completely washed out any definition. I just ran a couple of lumonosity masks and fucked around with hues, saturations and color cures. When you reduce those color casts, you get a shit ton more definition.

I'm not saying the shot should be all bland and subdued, but the color casts, especially in the shadows, is so strong that it's just fucking up detail.

What I actually do miss is all my Nikkor glass, the 18-55 kit lens isn't too shabby though.
