Is making an instagram account a good thing for a beginner photographer?
How do you go on about promoting it and stuff like that

Well, I'm glad we've got the utter shit out the way.
On Instagram, you need to focus on your tagging mainly. That's the trick to it. I use Instagram for my lower tier photos, stuff that is just nice. I also keep a 500px account for my best work, aggressively trimmed to keep a particular style going.

The white is a bit overblown due to the multi-segment metering you probably used. If you use the spot measurement on the white fur, you can get some more details out of the fur at the cost of losing some shadow detail in the background (which is not interesting for this pic anyways).
