No, it doesn't. It just looks sloppy. If you had the same "off" coloring across the whole image, maybe it would, but your colors and tones are very obviously modern digital, and the poor background coloring stands out as a mistake, not a thematic decision.

just got my 100mm F2.8L macro lens and a set of kenko extender tubes.
Threw my canon 1.4x extender, 3 kenko tubes, then my macro lens onto my 7dii.
Commemorating with first terrible image test

Inanimate objects are boring, I know. I'm gonna start trying it on some insects once I figure out the most convenient way to light+focus them before they move.
I had to sync off-camera flashes to handhold it with an aperture tight enough to not blur 90% of the little screw pin.

I could've gone with F18 probably, but either one was closed so far flash is mandatory if no-tripod.
A lot of the crappiness is probably due to handshake (since I couldn't use a 1/200-ish shutter to beat the 140mm : 100 x 1.4 extender)

Just got it in mail so will be seeing what kind of lighting and tripod rigs I can do to uncrap my macro images.

Thanks for that

I've only ever used a Pentaks MZ-7 for film, so I'm not sure of what to go for Canon-wise. For I while now I've wanted to get a film body just for my 85mm and portraits. What would you suggest?

Any of them really, they all have all of the exposure modes and plenty of shutter speeds.
For me the main consideration is that they all use Lithium batteries which are expensive and a pain to find, so I use a 30V with a battery grip that takes AA's. It really is crazy how cheap they are, only 10 years ago they were sold brand new for over $1000, I paid $50 for mine, and only a month later got given another one for free.
