I just moved from the PNW where I've spent my whole life to the bum fuck center of the Sonoran Desert. I'm surrounded by wilderness area but I miss the trees and hills. It's depressing me (especially with a chapped asshole, fuck it's dry here). How do I fall in love with the desert like I did with the forests /out/?

Pic unrelated

Poach someones cattles, sell them off and use the proceeds to hire ruffians to form a gang an terrorize nearby towns for protection money. Watchout for Arizona rangers carrying big irons

Alternatively, tame Sandworms

I'm moving out to Zion from the Appalachians this coming year.

I hope I like it...
>>

Zion is fucking amazing. I'm at least happy that it's a shorter drive there than it was. I would prefer that over further south. Those hills and canyons are amazing for hiking.
>>
I'll be honest, nothing can compare to the PNW, that whole area is /out/-incarnate.

Yeah, I would not like it there either, I hate hot areas, especially deserts, nice for hiking though.

Depending on your area, you could go hiking and the like, or drive around all insane Mad Max style

actually pic is related, retaining the moisture from your breath can cut down on water rations you have to carry

Where abouts is this? Theres nowhere near that much vegetation where I'm at. Caves are really my sole provider of shade.

There is a lot of beauty in the desolate expanse of empty space. Don't know if that beats the PNW but the desert has its beauty.

with that attitude you might want to have your nose cauterized

Desert fag here. Whole life in this hellfire desert. If you don't love the desert now, don't expect to. It doesn't want your love or affection. Only fools love the desert. Long exposure to the desert brings in a special kind of crazy. A desert kind of crazy. So find some shade. Always have water.

I recommend going out before sunrise or in the middle of the night. Those times are really nice. That's when you will finally start to appreciate it. It's when the desert is at its kindest. It forgets it wants to kill you.

In late summer we get monsoons, those are special. There is nothing like a desert rain storm. You will like it. Most Wetlanders do.

you could go to the Mogollon rim or flagstaff, or Sedona. I've heard legends that they have trees.

My pic is getting less an less unrelated. So is it really less dangerous at night, considering all the night predators, snakes, and low vis?

/out/ needs a bit more innadesert desu

what are the possibilities of becoming a desert scavenger?
I'd like to move someplace where I can ramble around in a semi-desert like environment and explore for lost and valuable or useful relics and artifacts
any abandon mining towns or or ghost towns and things just waiting to be looted?

any chance of doing this without running into a "The Hills Have Eyes" scenario?

When I did live in the PNW the Oregon badlands were only a few hours drive away. Animal tracks galore, abandoned mine sites (modern), settlers cans and shit from the oregon trail days, found legit petroglyphs in a canyon as well. No gravitational anomalies though...

The best hikes here are the ones near water. Find a lake or river on Google maps and look for some trails nearby. There are some nice ones around the lower salt river, saguaro lake, lake pleasant, or down south like Tenque Verde Falls. The desert can be a little boring bit with some effort you can seek out some very beautiful and unique places.

Anything other than learning to fly a glider, hangglider or paraglider is the wrong answer.

>Learn new technical skills
>Set new distance records in the desert
>View from the sky is amazing
>Chicks dig pilots

Or learn to drive a tractor and get drunk far too often
>>
>>997306
It's a different kind of beauty. Sort of like being on another planet. Learn to appreciate both.

Get an off road vehicle and explore. At night go scorpion hunting with a black light and shoot guns. You can literally do anything in the desert.

Been reading up on the bio regions of the sonaran desert and your completely right. It is to be appreciated in a completely different light than the cascades. It's been a slow process but the more /out/ings I do, the more I get them desert feels.
