I am thinking of turning this into an /out/ vehicle, but it feels wrong to chop this truck up? What do you think?
>>
>>996440
It's a Bronco II; just keep in mind that it's out to kill you.
Whereas a Mustang is a mass killer, the Bronco II is a precise hunter that lures its prey inside and then flips over to crush them, feeding on the already ingested carcass.
>>
>>996445
Partly thinking of selling it for this reason alone.

>>

Yeah that thing is mint. I'd leave it to your own discretion though.
>>
>>996454
IIRC that issue was related to to a discrepancy between the tire manufacturer (firestone) and Ford's suggested inflation pressures.

The stock vehicle in and of itself is not a rollover hazard.

How is it not already an /out/ mobile?
>>

Me again. The Firestone fiasco was in 2000, as it applied to the Ford Exploder model line.
Bronco II is a renowned roll over ride.
>>
>>996653
Most 4x4s from that era were, though. Because that's right about when the SUV boom was taking off and people started buying Bronco II, Troopers, Samurais, etc as everyday cars and driving them like everyday cars even though they handled differently than a Corolla or an Escort at highway speeds.
>>
>>996583
I was planning to lift it and put some off-road tires on it. I just enjoy it's restored state and would hate to make it an off roader.
>>
>>996454
I'll buy it. How much?
>>
>>996445
Europe here.
Isn't it just a truck with a fiberglass cap on the back? Why would it flip over more than a regular truck would?
>>
>>997445
No, the Bronco II was a fully enclosed 4x4 built on the Ranger truck platform. It had a fairly standard wheelbase width, but was taller so the gravity of center was higher. When driven at highway speeds they had a tendency to roll if you had to turn sharply. This was a common problem with most light 4x4s in the 80s-90s like Wranglers, Troopers, Samurais, etc. Insurance companies in the US started jacking up rates on them and manufacturers started focusing on bigger SUVs with wider wheelbases.

Forgot muh pic.

Also, light pick up trucks of the time also had pretty bad rollover/crash ratings but it was less of a scandal because those were largely sold as commercial/work vehicles, while the SUVs were being sold as everyday/family vehicles.

It's fine, they aren't rare or valuable.

Here's mine.
33-12-50's, 4.56's, locked rear, welded front, woody drive shafts, custom body and suspension lifts, HEADERS! (I bought the last set in existence apparently), chopped fenders, solid I-beam bumpers, custom transmission, dual batteries, AC converted to air compressor, amputated sway bars, etc, etc.
>>
>>996440
Fucking mint. Tough call man, it's hard to chop up something cherry.

what did he mean by this?

I am looking for pic related because I am a fan of the show
>>

thanks!

>what did he mean by this?
You weld the gears of the differential together so both axles have to spin instead of one or the other.

It's just a cheap way of building a spool or a permanent diff locker. Basically my front and back axles are locked so all 4 wheels turn when it's in 4.
>>
>>998518
Wont that snap your shit going around conrnres ?
Cant that ruin parts?
>>
>>997967
>>998518
It's a really common mod for Bronco II's because they have shitty front U-joints. So if you're running big tires your axles will spontaneously grenade when you hit the gas. We get around this problem by locking or spooling the front axle, it spreads the load and prevents one tire from suddenly loading or unloading and blowing the axle.

the next step after that is swapping in a solid front axle but I figure if you're going to do that you should just build a vehicle that already has one.
>>
>>998520
Yeah, if you leave the front hubs locked on pavement your U-joints will explode.

the back axle is stronger on B-II's so it's fine locked on pavement. Just causes tire wear. But the front can't take that stress.

Mine doesn't drive on pavement anymore though. Once you do what I did to them they're worthless and illegal on the highway. Death traps at anything over 55mph.
>>
>>996484
Why. There are a lot of crossover

There's also an /off road general/ there that doubles as an overland general.
>>
>>997605
Janitorbro u sick fuck. I had to build headers and they are shit...
>>
>>998518
Aka lincoln locker.

I have a $300 brass gear amd pin that essentially just makes my truck posi. Can weld it to but they are probe to failure.

However, mybdad welded mine up in high school. 62 chevy steoside with a 350. Fucker would do slao wheelies daily and hop all over when u spin. Nevee broke it.
>>
>>999635
It looks like people are making them for the 2.9 ford again. I see a bunch in the $200-$400 range online. Back when I bought mine there was only one manufacturer and they stopped production.

Not that they made any difference that I could tell, but they look and sound sweet.

This is why i love my 1975 ragtop Jeep CJ5, the lack of a upper body removes a major rollover hazard. The lack of power brakes means i can still stop even if the power fails, the lack of power steering adds additional stall safety and the lack of a seatbelt means injury in the unlikely event of an accident is no problem as i am guaranteed to be dead.

My only real injury threat is getting my thumbs broken or cut off if i hit a big rock.
