Hey /out/, not sure how many Europeans are here but i wanted to ask if anybody knows if wild camping is posible in Croatia in summer months, specificly in Istria Peninsula, i've read that its banned and heavily controlled, but others tell that they've done it without a problem with just a tent.
you can camp with ease, just use your common sense.
obviously dont make camp on beaches, private grounds, towns etc.
lots of people live of tourism, so they dont appreciate "vagrants" since it ruins the visage (in their viewpoint).
find a nice secluded place on the outskirts of towns and you should be fine.

what about like 1-2 km from the beach in a forest, does anyone go there?
Orange pins is where you can safely camp, stay out of main coastal road

Istrian resident here!
Hunting is controlled by local hunting "societies".You can get a foreigner hunting permit for 400hrk but there's some bureaucracy behind it. (source:http://www.hls.com.hr/inozemni-lovci/)
You could hunt rabbits and pheasants illegally as well, just be cautious.
As for camping, avoid tourist crowded and popular places, use your common sense as >>992262 said. You can find many beaches to camp on peacefully, throughout the whole coast of Istria. Forests are everywhere and no one should bother you there.

so? So many places I've camped on aren't even close to pinned. What I wanted to emphasize is that the whole county is suitable for camping. Not just the orange pins.

you'll be fine there.

I wasn't there for too long but from what I saw, good luck. Seems like really tiring terrain, although fairly dry and with more tree cover than you'd expect
