Thoughts on LED flashlights? I just ordered a chinese knockoff that claims to be "4000 lumens". any one use these /out/?

They've become way more advanced in the last 15 years. When they first became a thing, they couldn't match a bigass xenon bulb. But now, me likey.
Lumens are bs in many cases. Lumens in relation to battery life is what you have to look at. Super bright ain't super cool if the batteries only last 15 minutes, except for maybe in tactical applications.
any real good LED is going to run you about $30. I'd recommend the Voltec flashlights.

Not voltec, they're kind of shitty but make good construction lighting
NEBO. Nebo's are the shit. They've got really cool engineering aspects that make them super useful. I've loved mine.

This.
I carry a thrunite tn12. Max output is 1100 lumens, runs at that for 90 mins befor dropping down to next setting. I only use that setting when out in a field and I want to flood the area with light, or to use strobe mode and blind some one. Other than that I run it on a lower setting for most EDC stuff, which is like 180 lumens which is more than enough for every day tasks.
get one of the cheap $5 single AA flashlights; very easy to replace, and batteries last a good while
if you want a thrower, get a drop in from dealextreme, and grind it down a little to fit into a stock maglite 3C/D, then use 2 18650s, or another combo that will fit in the tube....it may not last very long, but pretty darn bright
got a flashlight from UNItec , Led . bought yesterday . it have 80 lumen , but make the job done . im pretty much happy from it ,paid 17 eurobucks for it . i also got a maglite 3D led , handy and can act as a emergency batton .

>4000 lumens
4000 lumens ? is there different scalling or what ? or i am just retarted
>>987542
I don't actually know what a lumen is, but I'm VERY skeptical that it will produce anywhere near that much light.
i got this gay lantern. but also got this military flashlight that probably went to iraq. so it evens out.

but it lights up the whole area real good. so can't complain to much.
Modern LEDs make best flashlights.
I have an old Fenix LD20, been my EDC for about 6 years now. Durable, bright enough, low is sufficiently low, and it runs on 2xAA's.

honestly if you're gonna go the lantern route oil is king comfy

They're great in terms of size and brightness, but the cheap ones tend to have reliability issues. Most of mine have problems turning on, need to click them just right.

yeah the led lights are kind of a harsh light. So I ordered a oil lamp. Keep this one for backup/power outage.
