I'm going into conscription this summer and need some supplies bc the standard issue ones are pretty shit. Can you give me any advice?

>Patrol bag - Mil Tec assault pack 36l (37€)
>Knoife - Ontario RAT 1 (13€)
>Ear protection - surefire EP7 (30€)

Any other good options? What are some good fixed blades under 50€? Also advice on a better patrol bag?
>>
Which country are you from? I need to know so that I can tell you if your Mil Tec pack is better or worse than whatever you'll be given for free.

Estonia. Standard issue is a God damn duffel bag. Cant get much worse than that. We do have another giant 100 l packback but I need something smaller and more compact for patrolls and recon missions

Pic related is the camping backpack. Obviously too large for anything else

I've been a conscript as well, but in Norway.
Some things to consider: Laptop and other things that kill boredom when you have spare time in the barracks. One guy had an external harddisk with lots of games, movies and TV shows, and it got passed around so people could copy and share content (internet too bad for torrents and shit) Bring a wristwatch, multitool, headlamp, gloves that will actually last a while, a good selection of civilian clothes for your spare time activities, I also ended up buying better soles for my boots.

Don't overdo it with tactical and survival gear, because you might look like a tryhard and people will think you're a weirdo. I was issued a cheap knife that is basically a Mora equivelant for example and didn't need to replace that.
>>
>>985425
Estonian and Norwegian conscriptions are a bit different. In Estonia u basically have no free time, it's constant training. All u have is an hour in the evening
>>
>>985425
also, forgot about lighters/matches/ferro rod

I was never issued a fire starting method so I bought that as well, and some extra food in case logistics boys can't deliver
>>
>>985426
It was like that in basic training for me, but not the whole year. After a few weeks we got normal work hours, except when it was exercise.
>>
>>985428
Estonian conscription is more like in the old USSR. U basically do the shittiest tasks with the shittiest tools for hours. It's considered way worse than what the conscription is in the western world. It is surprisingly effective though. Estonian soldiers are incredibly well trained

>>985432
We might have more in common that you think. I spend countless hours just washing things, cleaning, I even spent 3 weeks just organizing a new garage.
But it must suck pretty much if you don't get a few hours off in the evening.

We have a lot more survival stuff bc we are trained for guerilla warfare. My brother is currently in a 2 month long forest camp. We train camouflage and wilderness survival very hard.

Ain't no freedom in Europe, anon. I was just taking a piss tho, I like Eesti.
>>
>>985448
Better to live by the rules of the EU than become a Russian
>>
>>985444
When you mentioned "shit tasks" I was just thinking about all the pointless menial labour we had to do. But of course we spent many days out in the field as well.

You spend some time on the base, and some time outdoors. During one year, I spent a few months living outdoors.
>>
>>985456
By shit tasks I meant building outposts, tigging foxholes, laying barbed wire and mines, cooking food and camping. Most of our training is done in the forest, we rarely linger in the barracks
>>
>>985451
Unfortunately those rules mean the destruction of the European way of life. Fuck EU, and I say that as a native from a long time EU member.
>>
>>985462
EU is shit for the big cunts but great for the small ones
>>
>>985458
>By shit tasks I meant building outposts, tigging foxholes, laying barbed wire and mines, cooking food and camping.
that's not shit tasks breh, that's just good fun
I mean, those things are the whole reasons one wants to be in the military

but military life isn't always fun in the woods, it's more than that
>>
>>985466
It's not fun when you do the same exact thing over and over again with shit tools for an eternity.
>>
>>985462
europe follows progressive rules. no thinking person wants back into the past, moron.
>>
>>985465
Yeah when you're a recent member all the money pumped there is good and all, but long term you become hostage of their policies.
EU was supposed to be a trade agreement, now they are pushing for federalization. A multinational entity has no place having an army like they want too.
>>
So is anyone gonna address my original questions or do you wanna continue getting off topic?
>>
>>985468
Spoken like a true goy. Have fun being a bootlicker all your entire life.
And progressive is a code word used to justify everything that lack morality.
>>
>>985353

american vetfag here, Mil Tec shit is definitely not that great but that knife and earpro are alright, however fixed blades were discouraged in our units because folders were more useful and easier to carry with our kit. Our doctrine is different so i dont know if they'll have you chopping wood and tinder and all that, in which case i'd just carry a hatchet on my assault pack.

i'm not sure what your pack budget is or where to find solid cheap packs, ruskies make some good stuff for the price but i dont know if you care about that or not, personally im going to use whatever works best and i dont give a shit who makes it from which country

https://grey-shop.ru/Basic/Backpack

they got a few cool packs there for less than 100 euros that should match Estonia pattern uniforms without looking out of place

What army allows recruits to bring their own gear? Or are you part of the reserve?
>>
Mil-Tec.

I have a black 20l backpack from mil-tec, and it is OK for a work bag /light edc, but I would very much doubt it would stand up to a military environment.

I imagine even a weekend of hard use in the woods, and straps and zips will be shagged.
>>
>>985501
Estonian military allows you to. If it meets the requirements ur ok.
>>985517
I'm not looking for something to hold up in the forest. I want a pack that is light, well made and can be used to haul shit while patrolling
>>985481
Thx f.a.m. Russian camo is usually forbidden here though
>>
>>985779
Latvian National Guard here, Urmas.

Our gear is worse, and we envy what you (and your Kaitseliit) have.

Having said that - the Mil Tec assault pack will need work, so bring a sewing kit (if you don't already). Not as shit as most of their crap.

If you have a bit more dough, go for Helikon-Tex, costs more but durable enough. Good value for money.

If you like nice things that last years, get Tasmanian Tiger. Though the patrol pack is like 150 euro, so I do not have one.

Knife-wise? I really don't find myself using a knife-knife that often - get a cheap multitool instead, the pliers come handy.

For ear protection I use US plugs, little rubber cones with three layer, come in a handy box. Good enough for small arms fire. Were like 7 euro here, at a surplus shop.
>>
>>985440
i doubt that, i mean you're leading me to believe estonians are just grunting neanderthals, if someone is unfit to join due to medical conditions etc you guys just play rudolph the rednose reindeer with the guy and call him not a real reindeer?

Headlamp, wristwatch, primus, Combat vest(i would recommend condor for relvad. Ee its cheap but durable enough) ,overboots (it gets fucking cold in the winter), patrol pack(not mil tec), camelbak, thermos.

Im certain i missed something but thats that
Keep in mind that if you are part of the 1. Brigade your equipment will be shitloads better.

It's nice that you're allowed to bring your own gear tho! When I was a conscript in DK we could only bring a few things of our own. I did bring a headlamp and that was the best decision ever! Get one that can shine red and you're allowed to use it more often, plus it doesn't ruin your night vision.

Apart from that I kinda missed some of my better outdoor gear that I couln't use.

relvad .ee is the way to go if you want to buy your gear from estonia. i would recommend this vest www. relvad. ee/shop/product_info.php?cPath=101_94_92&products_id=3026

for packs dont get the mil tec one because ive seen a few of those get reckt in conscription. get any of the condor ones on relvad.ee at least thats the vibe im getting from the barracks.

your headlamp has to have a red light or you cant use it if its not super admin.

also get yourself a multitool (pliers or a - screwdriver comes in handy with removing the pouches)

another thing you can check is mil forums here since a lot of guys get out of here in june there is bound to be some vest and stuff for sale there. At most its seen 6 months service.

Let's not pretend that conscription could do miracles. It might give people a common topic to speak about but that's about it.
>>
>>986878
They also salute every other person in uniform, even other conscripts. That's when they're not indoors, indoors they nod while looking the other person in the eye. It's common courtesy.

Edu.
>>
>>987233
Tänud. Ma juba suurtükis kirjas kahjuks, komisjoni mutid määrasid
>>
>>987233
Kust kurat korralikke overbootse saab muidu?
>>
>>987237
Sellel ei ole vahet, kuhu alguses määratakse. Kohapeal teed uuesti valiku. Kui tahad asju teha, vali luko. Suurtüki juhtkond suhteliselt ebakompetentne ja on palju lampi persetamist.

>>987238
Samelin.
>>
>>987241
Luko füüsiliselt raske pole v?
>>
>>987245
On, sitaks.

>>
>>987248
