If I was a vagabond, I'd wear a really nice business suit, tie, and spiffy shoes. I'd keep them ironed, clean, and sharp looking all the time. I'd carry all my ultralight gear in a case. No tats, no piercings, clean hairstyle.

Can you image if all vagabonds and homeless people did that? If that became a thing, people looking like this would be yelled at "get a job loser!" or people would toss money at them.

Number 1 thing you can do to succeed in being homeless is do not lose your social security card or other important paperwork. Many homeless people get stuck homeless because nobody will hire them with no address, paperwork of any kind, etc. You need an escape route.

A guy living in his car may be there because he has alimony payments and student loans taking most of a minimum wage paycheck. He shaves and showers at the gym, his clothes are clean thanks to the laundromat, and he's not crazy or an addict. But he's going nowhere for the forseeable future.
