When camping in god knows where, how do you prevent from being raped, murdered, eaten (not necassarily in that order).

Camping just seems like you're asking for it.

Walk softly, and carry a big stick.
>>
>>982056
Simple. Go where there's fuck all else.
>>
>>982056
There's no one middle nowhere. Sometimes you get the chills tho
>>
>>982056
Guns. Lots of guns. If anyone is getting ate, raped, or killed I'll be doing the deciding who.
>>
Car camping in Walmart parking lots in some rural meth town I just lock my car and keep a knife next to me, never had any issues really, but I can see how it could get sketchy. Out in the woods though I usually feel safer. Animals aren't looking to attack you. I've had bears sniff around my tent and while it is scary, it's not that dangerous if you keep a cool head. I like to have some bear spray next to me just in case though.
>>
>>982056
If you are more than a days walk from the trailhead, your likelihood of being a victim of violent crime drops dramatically
Most criminals are too lazy to walk for a day to commit their crimes, that's why they are criminals
>>
>>982102
Sleeping in your car in a Wal-Mart parking lot is not "car camping".

Try actually going /out/ and not being a FUCKING CARCAMPING NORMIE REEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
I carry a pistol and bear spray but honestly I have never had this concern.

In summer when all the fucking Canadians and other filth flock to my region for recreation, I worry a little bit if we're just car camping off a forest service road because you'll have other groups around and they're usually partying to some extent, but even then they mostly mind their own business.

On a trail to nowhere though? Nah. After your first 3 hours you're waaaayyyy outside of what is convenient. Not saying the risk isn't there, hence pistol, but it's negligible. Anyone out there is just trying to do what you're doing...get away from life for a bit.

The only time I would be genuinely a bit worried is I think on the long trails like the PCT or something, but only because they seem like they could be hobo highways. Truthfully I have no experience with those trails though so I could be totally wrong.
>>
Always keep a handgun with you, either a 45acp handgun or a 44 magnum. Anything lower in caliber is dangerous if you live in a state with bears. You could either teach yourself at a gun range or get an instructer to show you how to shoot (more preferable). Remember to always keep your finger off the trigger until you're about to use it.
>>
By raping, murdering and eating people first.
>>
>>982102
aren't bears a meme? unless you're in grizzly territory, why the fuck is a bear going to bother you unless you're covered in peanut butter

It sounds like it is

Does anyone have a link to the video where a bear was raping some chicks kayak?

Rule 1 of stealth camping:
If they can't see you, they can't ask you to leave. (Or rape, murder or eat you)

This doesn't apply to wild animals, but some common sense and proper food storage should keep you safe there.
>>
>>982191
No, look up a list of black bear attacks on humans. Black bears are a legit issue and account for the vast number of predatory attacks on people.
>>
>>983413
https://www.bear.org/website/bear-pages/black-bear/bears-a-humans/119-how-dangerous-are-black-bears.html

61 people have been killed by black bears since 1900. What numbers have you been going off?

Story?
>>
>>983505
The number of deadly attacks has been increasing since 2000. I can post some articles in the morning but black bears account for the vast majority of predatory attacks on humans, and although most will run off when you yell at them they shouldn't be taken lightly as they can and will kill people occasionally.
>>
>>983529
Older brother is in the french foreign legion and he stole it from a guy they caught while they were raiding drug camps in the south american jungle

bastard kept the better one with a gold braided handle for himself but it's still pretty cool
>>
>>983536
Yeah, post 'em up dude. I wanna learn.
>>
>>983536
They run away if they even just hear you coming unless you live in areas they're accustomed to, then they'll just pick around whatever trash you leave.

Also what he said. Post 'em.

This is actually relevant to something I've been a little worried about. I'm driving from Ohio to California this summer, and I wanted to camp out in the desert for a night. If i were to just drive off the road for a mile or so into the desert, what are the chances of something rapey or murdery happening to me?
>>
Where I live it's difficult to get firearms, so staying in a group and carrying a few knives is all you need but I haven't heard of anyone get murdered at a camping grounds here. Too much risk for fuck all rewards, may as well break into their houses while they're out camping.
>>
>>984222
extremely high, gangs of mexicans are known to spawn in the desert so you will probably get raped and killed and then your corpse raped again
>>
>>984293
cool and nice, can't wait. I get pretty dark in the summer so maybe I can pass for one of their own.

I'm a little (petite) chick, I've been taking off into the woods alone for hours since I was young, about 15 years experience, let's say. In my youth I always took along a slender branch, 2/3my size. Anything that made a great whipping noise in the air. Easy to carry and strong enough to strip bark/cut grasses with a good lash. My favorite weapons are my tools. Especially if they are natural tools. My favorite 'go to' has always been a strong and pointed walking stick- we have snakes, bears and cougars. I've since adapted to carrying a small knife, so practical you shouldn't leave without one- ya know, for the killing and raping- bahahaha, alright, jk on that one- in all seriousness though, never underestimate the use of the right stone. Find a good sized one that fits comfortably in your hand, yet large enough to protect you hand from whatever you may be crushing. I generally use stones like this to pound stakes/thick cut branches into the ground. Good to keep in arms reach at camp.
Your fire poker is lethal, and the fire/smoke tends to deter preditors- we have coyotes, too.
Stealth is pretty key. Observe your surroundings closely, heighten your senses.

No offense but if a cougar ever got it into it's mind to devour you, you'd be fucked.

I'm 6'3 and I carry a machete around in my backpack along with a knife and I'm still scared to shit of meeting a cougar. Coyotes I could handle but a cougar or a hungry blackbear is game over even with a machete
>>
>>982071
What if he shoots you from behind your big mong head
>>
>>984868
Your chances of being aware of a cougar attacking are slim to none. They pounce from behind and bite your neck to crush your spinal column and puncture your arteries and trachea. They're still dangerous if you see them, but they'll usually retreat if they lose the advantage of stealth.
>>
>>984915
hence why I carry a bigass backpack to protect my neck and check my 6 o'clock every 30 seconds, always check the tops of nearby trees and stop in my tracks to check my surroundings if I hear anything moving that isn't me

chances are I wouldn't hear or see a cougar anyway but I'm banking on the fact that my backpack might partially shield me, at least long enough for me to get my knife/machete out and stab it. Ideally the cougar would just fuck off because it's not hungry and I don't look like an easy target

If I come up against a black bear though idk if even my machete could do very much
>>
>>982056
Guns.

You might be able to get away with a machete or a good fixed blade. (These will have more practical uses and aren't as restrictive.)

357 or 10mm will down a black bear. But I bring a gun mostly for the crazy people. Sleep next to it. You could also surround your camp with paracord and something that will wake you if its triggered.
>>
I was thinking about this the other day, I would like to start camping over in Missouri, but I also don't want to have an encounter with Tweakus Americanus out in the fucking bush.

I figured I might try to pick up a cheap breakdown shotgun, like a Winchester Mod. 12 or a Stevens 620A, which breaks down into two pieces for carrying, but still gives you 5+1 rounds of 12g buckshot to work with in the unlikely chance of a bear or methhead attack.
