What else should i add?

Don't be a dick. Like his style of camping, or not, at least he went /out/

This board needs more content of people going /out/ and less content about everything else.

Well done, OP. More pics of the area? Any from longer trips?

During storms you would set the tarp up lower to the ground. There is enough space under there that the rain would really have to be blowing to affect you. A few things to note. Firstly the forest canopy blocks a lot of the rain and slows its fall to the ground. The trees also block a lot of the wind at ground level. Most rain that falls in the PNW comes from one direction. So blowing in isn't really a concern. We do get some big wind storms in the fall and winter that can dump massive amounts of water. In those conditions you'd just set your tarp up differently. Or not go out in the first place. FWIW i havent slept in a tent for over 3 years. Just last year i spent a total of 17 nights under a tarp with no problems.

You find them in the Scottish Highlands, islands and I think Ireland as well.

They were used as summer dwellings for grazing animals out on the moor. Mostly occupied by women and children while the men would work at sea or maintain the croft.

Used for this purpose right up until the First World War, which ruined everything. A few geezers were still using them for their original purpose in the 50s but it died out after that. Now shelings are only used by /out/ types as shelters while on fishing trips.

This one that I pictured was built some time before 1890, and restored by a disendant of the builder, adding a corroded iron roof but he died and the shielding is in disrepair.

The attached picture is what it looks like on the inside.

Do people really set up camp at like 3pm on the apalachian trail? Also, are there creek scrambles or do you guys have bridges?
>>
>>978688
sure. people do it everywh9ere. If you're hiking to get out and relax a bit, you cover enough ground in 5-6 hours of pretty constant hiking that its acceptable to set up camp around then.
>>
>>978229
I've woken up and had cougars right next to my site. Get the fuck out of here with your faggy man-cape tarp shit
>>
>>978711
Quit being a beta fag
A tent is not going to stop a cougar or bear from getting you. I really don't see why this is hard to understand. Also if i need to get out of camp fast I'm sure as shit going to be able to make a faster exit from a tarp than I would out of a tent.

Running a clean camp. Storing food stuffs in a tree and not cooking & eating in camp will be the best animal prevention.

Also hammock campers don't get half the flack that ground campers get. I really don't get it. If i had a hammock set up 4' off the ground with a tarp over it no one would be talking about
>muh Cougars

lel you're delusional. More like a death cocoon. Not that getting attacked by a bear or cougar at night is really a concern I have.
-Camping on private property. No animals have been habituated to there being food in this area.
-Clean camp
-No worries
Keep being scared and enjoy your false since of security.
>wake up in the rainy piss
Doesn't happen unless you set up the tarp like a moron. Years of experience will teach you this lesson. Ain't my first rodeo.
I don't doubt you have had cougars at your site. Its not typical and not particularly frightening/worry some.
>>
>>978946
Do you like using ridge lines for your hammock? I've never tried them. I made some whoopie slings and can get a fairly consistent hang using them. The ridge lines just expedite the hanging process while at the same time aid in getting the geometry of the hang proper. Right?

Yes, yes and yes.

+ robust
+ easily modded, check out Mcq bush craft on yt
+ modular, you can strap shit to it till you're a Nepali mountain porter

- If you're a wide man itll dig in on your lower back
- 35L is fine for me but I have never done more than 4 days without return to civilisation.

Buy a unissued one. Wax it when you get it, and make/buy a blast belt. On the 3 day camp in the pic I went without and it wasn't an end game but comfort is preferable.

tbqh modern £100 hi-tech low weight packs are better, but alot of hiking distance is moral and the aesthetic keeps me happy enough for it to be worth it.

looks like Dartmoor? There is a local tale of a young man walking past a mire and seeing a hat on the ground. Picking up the hat he was surprised to find a man’s head underneath it. He readily offered to assist the gentleman out of his difficulties, only to hear the reply that the gentleman also needed the horse that he was sitting on rescued as well.

I have that same stove. Never was fond of using one but I really like how simple it is. I can't stand it when people bring their entire kitchen and ridiculous 4 burner propane ranges with them car camping. But this little coleman is really good for boiling and morning breakfast, since the last thing my fatass wants to do in the morning is flail a fire together. Little worried of it tipping over tho.

Staying in the beavers bend state park. Its more of a fly fishing thing tho than just camping. The gf works at cabelas so we always get a good score on equipment. This for instance is a 3 season wind stopper we got for $120. Norm $300.

Hey nice campsite, is this willow creek California?

Do you bring firearms? I would be afraid of Bigfoot, or Sasquatch as we call him
Here in Canada, I don't go into the woods without a rifle.

Willow creek, Oregon. Between Madras and Prineville. Near the red dot on the picture.

I don't carry (or own) firearms. Probably largely related to growing up in no-gunz-land (MA), but it hasn't come back to bite me yet and I've spent over a year of my life outside, alone, unarmed. Maybe a ~6 inch knife, but that lives deep in my bags and I wouldn't know how to defend myself with it anyway.

I won't get into Bigfoot talk here, but let's just say I'm a firm skeptic.

Do you guys pick up your tents/supplies when you're going to be exploring or do you leave everything. I would be afraid of someone passing by and stealing shit.

This is the front rack
>https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RKBAJI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Kind of overkill, but I like the versatility of it. If it was really dry I could put my sleeping bag on the top shelf. It sort of hindering really sharp turns. It will hit the barrel adjusters but I never had to turn that sharp. Now that I think of it you should never do that sharp of a turn of you are fully loaded.

Front bags

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006Z0O6NQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Everything is waterproof. Went through a few downpours going through Mt. Hood forest.

It took about 7 days. 8 in total. I stopped by a hot springs on the way down.

I'm changing up the bars setup. Getting Jones H bars paired with Ergon Biocork GC1s and Paul thumbies shifters.

Best places are short hills, Deqew falls, the gorge/whirlpool. Wainfleet bog conservatory.

Otherwise have to drive to Algonquin which is an easy drive.

>>
>>990670
I've played a few baseball tournaments around ely and it was beautiful but I've heard great things about lake of the woods and the Detroit lakes area I really enjoy cliffs
I was hoping there would be secluded wilderness areas around there
Where is du nord located?
>>
>>990682

A little ways north of Ely. They have cabins and tent spots, and a bath house etc. Not sure if you're looking for that or wilderness camping, but lots of awesome expansive wilderness in that area too.

whats your experience with them and their products? I got a duomid which could need some quality innards, but I heard controversial stuff about them.
>>
>>993197
>controversial stuff
How so? I mean it's one guy doing it so it's not a major set up. It's a tab quirky I suppose but I couldn't be happier with my inner.
>>
>>993200
Just heard that they got long waiting time and such.
How does the inner affect temperature and wind? I love my duomid, it is a fortress in even strong winds, but it gets drafty as fuck at times.
Does the more robust inner block wind and maybe raise temp by a couple degrees?
>>
>>993203
Yeah I had to wait a while for my inner. But again, it's one dude making them. My Shangri-la came with a mesh only inner which was great when it was warm but got pretty chilly and damp in colder places. The ripstop and smaller space is much, much warmer.
