His music is alright for early black metal and at least it influenced a lot of other bands into growing and experimenting with the genre.

He's gotten nuttier as time passed. I remember his burzum.org essays being fairly interesting and reasonably well thought out. Those posts weren't really /out/ related like some of his current content though, mostly paganism and black metal history.
