I don't know if this is the place to ask but over the last few months as I've gotten closer to my exit from the military I've been thinking about doing a 60mi week hike through land between the lakes, KY. The problem I have is my equipment "needs" come from what I've learned in the army. And as we all know the army loves to over pack and make things as difficult as possible. My question to fellow /out/ is what would you recommend. I'm not the tent kind of person been using a hammock for the last 5 years. So for backpack size, clothing, food. Just general things for a week of camping and hiking. The pack I do have for nights out is simple. Two tarps a simple ifak a life straw along with some dried foods. I haven't really given much thought to a portable stove. but it might be my best bet. I know nothing about them or what I should look for. Any information would be better then what I'm working with now.

This and some calorie-dense food is all you need. You'll probably want more, but the less you carry, the more you'll enjoy the trip.
White tube is fishing spindle, if those lakes have anything worth catching.

The only thing I'd actually recommend adding is a small cook pot and an alcohol stove is you prefer hot meals, maybe another, thicker liner if you expect lower than 40F
