This is probably not the right place to ask but I thought maybe you fellas not have a few good ideas.

My fiancé is a forester and conservationist that specialises in GIS mapping and I haven't got a fucking clue what to get him for his upcoming birthday (which sadly for my purse, falls on the same day as Valentines).

He's been talking about getting his chainsaw license for a while but it's a bit out of my budget. Last year I bought him this special Swedish axe he wanted. I still don't know what made it special.

You guys all like outdoors shit right? What would YOU enjoy as a gift?

>chainsaw license
What the fuck?

I'm so glad Hillary lost.
>>
N00dz or a cool jacket
>>
>>944117
We're in the UK.
In the US you're allowed to operate a chainsaw in your work environment without proper training and certification? That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
>>
>>944120
It usually is. But people who act stupid with or around chainsaws typically don't keep jobs long. As for your question, I'd bring up a conversation about his gear and what he might need to replace or he would like. You would know best how to do this without giving away the entire thing. But, that's what I would do.

Welp I guess you gotta keep them out of the wrong hands when you're being overrun with sand people.

Would this make you laugh, or is it 117% lame? Usually he likes goofy gifts.

I'm buying him two presents btw.
>>
So getting back to OP's question, does his employer provide him with boots, clothing, and equipment?
>>
>>944129
Did you see it on Facebook?

It's missing something. Like a joke equating wood to an erect penis.
>>
>>944131
I Googled 'gifts for foresters' :(
You're right. It's lame.

>>944130
Nah he wears his own shit, but right now he's just doing mapping so he's just going into woods with drones and shit and looking for specific trees. I don't know a whole lot about it to be honest. Employer pays for his fuel costs though.
>>
>>944136
So like can you buy a chainsaw without a license?
>>
>>944137
Yeah of course, but if you're doing work-related activities you need a license to operate one.
>>
>>944139
I wonder if there's some other shit like professional apps or programs he uses on his computer or phone that help him with work but aren't paid for. A subscription to something like that?

Otherwise depending on the weather, boots or a nice raincoat or hiking pants. Regular pants are shit in rainy and cold weather so that could be an option if he is /out/ a lot.
>>
>>944122
This. but wtf Europe a chainsaw license? Whats next a screwdriver license?
>>
>>944116
Target budget? amerifag here. I've got no idea how much a chainsaw license costs. Without that I've got nothing to base my recommendations off. No need to convert to US$

>Needing a license to operate power tools
What a cuckold of a nation
>>
you should get him a new knife and you give us a picture of your boobs...
>>
Oh my God, it's not a fucking licence. It's a course that's several days long where they teach you the basics of felling, bucking and saw maintainance. You get a certificate at the end. Most places but not all want you to have done it before they'll hire you as a saw operator.

It's exactly the same shit that you do to be a saw operator for wildcard fire fighting in the US. Any chuckle fuck can walk into a shop and buy a Stihl MS880 with a 40 inch bar without being asked from anything.

Anyway, my suggestion is that you get him a loggers tape and a selection of books - maybe a Collins guide or something like that and perhaps something a bit more fun like Voices Of The Forest.

Get him a 2017 DR-z400.
He can do 60mph power wheelies in 1st from a light.

Also buy him "Ride the Tiger" by Julius Evola, and "100 Questions asked and Answered" by Oswald Mosley
>>
>>944129

And as forester also in the UK, this would am museum me very much.

Get him a plastic chainsaw so he can practice first if you are still aloud those

Chainsaws are very loud, yes Anon.

Mang, you got it made

I'm a paramedic. When I'm not at work, I don't want to think about work, or anything to do with work. I don't want ambulance or paramedic related gifts.

Maybe just get him something non work related? Maybe he has other hobbies?
>>
>>944116
Probably a couple pairs of long pants that have pockets. Not cotton cause if cotton gets wet its cancer. If they have zippers to make them shorts its a plus.
>>
>>944162
he will probably love a motorcyle. i dont know anyone that has ridden one and not wanted to ride one again.
>>
>>944145
Slovenia here to deny that. The only "license" you really need to work in forestry is a 3 year education so the employer knows he's got an at least semi-competent worker. If you do it privately or just aren't being employed for it you don't need much, even the education isn't necessary if your employer is willing to employ a guy without an education.
>>
Buy him a Leatherman or something.
>>
>>944224
That's why logging helmets have muffers on them.
>>
just get him a good pair of gloves and boots
>>
>>944251
I have to agree with this.

unless he's a completely one dimensional person who defines himself solely by his work.
>>
Arborwear clothing.
See Google

>>

A cruising vest. Maybe a nice pair of rubber boots (mucks) if you guys live in a wet state.
>>
>>944145
They need a TV license too actually
>>
>>944120
I can't tell if this is serious or i'm being rused
>>
>>944707

In the USA we need a licence to work in a library. Like an actual licence - not even like the silly British TV tax thing so it's not that far fetched.
>>
>>944143
I do GIS mapping as part of my university degree. The software suites are super expensive and there are a lot of different programs for slightly different applications. I wouldn't go down this route if I were you.

Personally I'd say go for the scatter approach,

Get him a few pairs of high % merino hiking socks - if he's on his feet all day he'll appreciate

Does he like gadgets? Maybe a zebra light torch could be useful, or another premium flashlight
