Caving thread?
Caving thread.
Hit Pettyjohns Cave a couple days ago as part of a cleanup operation with a sizeable group, then did some exploring a bit deeper in.
Who else loves caving here?
Floyd Collins loved it to death.
Or maybe he loved it to a couple weeks before death.

Doing what you love is a good way to go. He died living.
My brain has built in software telling me not to do that.

I really don't understand the fear a lot of people have. It's some of the greatest fun, besides SCUBA diving, that I've had.
As long as you have a helmet, a buddy(ies), and proper equipment, you're usually perfectly fine.
I honestly can't name a single time where I've felt fearful or anxious or in imminent danger while caving. It's like exploring an alien world, or even a time capsule considering some of the goodies you can find. A friend of mine found some old-style Budweiser cans that were last made in the 70s.
I dunno, to each his own, of course, but I think when the initial fear is faced and swallowed down, you find that it is nowhere near as bad as you imagined beforehand.

I think it's because people don't want to be sandwiched by tonnes of fucking rock to the point where they may not be able to move.
It's pretty logical senpai
Plus there was that guy who fucked up in putty hole or peanut hole, or something like that. Who died there. Like a big old upside down bitch.

Maybe so, put it on your gravestone.
There is also a thing as dieing too early. I have lost too many friends that way, too.

Man, you sure are cool. I'm jealous of your hard core friends and hard core life style.

RONG
He starved to death after two weeks of being stuck between cold hard rock with water dripping down on him.
>After four days, during which time rescuers were able to bring water and food to Collins, a rock collapse in the cave closed the entrance passageway, stranding him in the cave, except for voice contact, for more than two weeks. Collins died isolated, of thirst and hunger compounded by exposure through hypothermia.
I think that this is genuinely insane. I know it's popular around the world but the risk of experiencing the most excruciating death (however small) doesn't seem have to be matched with an appropriate payoff. At least sky jumpers will die instantly if they fuck up.

My sarcastic friend, don't be jealous of the dead, it makes you appear small to others.

It's not like every cave is a horrible tiny little tube you worm your way through. Here in the NW there are caves big enough for you to explore standing tall. Besides, plenty of thrillseekers die out in the open, too.

Going to repost some of the most terrifying caving pics I've saved from 4chan.

Roughly 20 stories below ground in a dry cave.
i prefer somewhere with a view, actually. but more power to you.
ever find cool shit?
Whole lotta nope in this thread for me lol.
It's weird, I can run and jump around on heights where I could easily fall to my death and not have a care in the world, but the thought of being confined just makes me incredibly uncomfortable.

laughed at this harder and longer than i should have.

OP here, found what may as well be a residence in Pettyjohns last weekend.
There were batteries, a coke can, two beer cans (Budweiser and PBR), burnt wood, ashes from a fire (not a good idea at all), a wrapper for Ramen noodles, and the remains of a joint.
No lie. It was in a very tight spot too, you'd miss it if you weren't searching every nook and cranny there was, which we were to clean the place up.
