Waterproofing general.
Any recommendations for making my softshell repell water better? Not looking for a rain jacket, it isn't raining and it doesn't rain here in Colorado. I'm just tired of getting wet while snowshoeing.

Nikwax. Their tekwash and then dwr treatment works pretty well on any synthetic fabric... And even cotton(though it's nowhere near as good as a polyester softshell that's been treated.)

Is there anything else out there worth looking into?
Melt plastic grocery bags onto the leaky parts

can I use a hot glue gun instead?

I've seen it rain in Colorado a lot. Sometime between '95 and '97 if memory serves, there was massive flash flooding at Ft Lewis. I was at the college at the time.
Mink oil and snow seal works well for me.
