Opening with something taken in the French Alps
>>927266
And another one, same place
It's mostly been cold and cloudy but no snow so there's no reason to go outside. The other day the sun came out, so I went to the beach to take some test shots with my new waterproof camera. Here's some lake effect stuff over Lake Ontario.
>>927266
it's actually got a decent zoom for a waterproof P&S.
>>927380
Wew that really looks like the sea, I guess people near the Great Lakes who never get to see the ocean wouldn't find it so new
>>927266
thats a pretty fucking nice pic.
I feel like you could have exposed the trees a bit more or maybe ligthend the black a bit.
that's personal taste to.
the pic is great.
>>929695
Thank you Anon
Yeah I would have liked the trees to be clearer as well but when I took the pic it was dusk and already hard to get something good with my camera
I tried to edit it afterwards but I've only recently started using such softwares (Photofiltre mostly) so I'm still experimenting with lots of pics
Here's the Mont Blanc, since it the highets summit around here and in Western Europe it's the last one to be illuminated by sunlight and stand as a single red/pink mountain at the right hour (and on the left you can see the shapes of the mountains in my OP pic)

Alright I'll take your comments into acount. It's actually the first time I hear about raw, after a quick search I see what it can do and found it on my camera, i'll try this next time I'm out thanks. I'm not familiar at all with the technical sides of photography, so far I've mostly been fucking around in automatic with slight variations desu (i've only had my camera for a month or so, decided to buy it because I was gonna work in the Alps during winter and didn't want to take shit pics with my phone anymore)
It's a Panasonic bridge DMC-FZ200, not a beast but fine to begin with I thought.
Those New England pics are gorgeous tho, lots of trees where I am but the forests are very fractionned it's a shame

As far as I know, the only mountains nearby are in Cape Breton which is a 4 hour+ drive. I know that's not long..I really don't know why I haven't made the trip.
I should really go this summer and do the Cabot trail. None of my friends are into /out/ things so I if I go it'll be alone, which is how I like it desu.
My dream is to go to a place like pic related and just lay there all day, through the sunset, and all night looking up at the stars.
I guess I'll come tribute. I don't have a great camera, though.

Bonus here's my way to go working every morning, not very /out/ but comfy imo
>>927276
damn those slopes are long. How high are these mountains? Near 3000m?
I live in a valley surrounded by 1900-2500m high mountains, but none of them have such long slopes.
Here’s a pic from the Julian Alps I took last week (first snow fell a few days ago after 50 days of sunny weather, that’s why most of the landscape was still not covered by snow).
>>931402
>How high are these mountains? Near 3000m?
That's about it yeah, it's around the Vanoise National Park which boasts more than 100 summits above 3000m (highest being 3800m). The ski domain where I work reaches 3200m, and the Mont Blanc + the Italian national park of Gran Paradiso are a few kilometres away, it's really in the heart of the western Alps
>first snow fell a few days ago after 50 days of sunny weather
Yeah I feel you it's the same here, the first serious snowing happened last week
Gorgeous pic btw, I wish I had more time to hike but I start working every day at 6 a.m and only have my afternoons so I can't go far or spend the night outside

I'm quite interested by the UK landscapes even though it's a densily populated country
>>936740
>>930393
That picture could make a good atmospherical black metal album cover
Day hike the gf and I did at San Jacinto in socal. Nothing extreme but some killer views along the hike to the peak
>>936932
Kek, that was actually my thought with this one >>936740 so I sent it to my sister who's into it and she sent me back a cover for a made-up band
>>936740
Although the UK doesn't have lots of different biomes like the US or nearly any other country, we do have quite a lot of niche environments.
For farmland on rolling hills and pocketed towns and villages your best bet is the South West or Yorkshire.
If you're looking for hills with good views and nice lakes then Wales or the Lake District is good for that.
The proper "mountains" are all basically up in Scotland so check the Cairngorms and the Highlands out for that.
The whole coastline of Britain is pretty stunning, but for the best stuff it has to be Cornwall or the Jurassic Coast.
Although most of the National Parks are moors or heathland they can each offer quite a different environment and landscape.
On the surface the UK is a tiny little island filled with foreigners or farmers, but we do have quite a lot if you know where to look.
pic related: a little stream in the Brecon Beacons
>>937387
Well I'm ok with moors and heath, I'm from southern France so the UK looks pretty exotic to me. And anyway I'm also interested in the things to see besides the landscapes, meaning the old villages, monuments, historical remains etc so I'm also ok with no proper wilderness. I think Scotland is still quite a wild place tho, at least by Europe standarts.
I've alreayd been to the UK and to Ireland but as part of a school trip when I was younger so I saw most of the landscapes through a bus window instead of actually walking there. I'm planning a Euro road trip next year though so the British Isles are going to be on my list thanks to the tunnel
>>935986
Where is this ?
>>937449
You'd be surprised by the amount of history we have here in the UK. I only started actually looking at the history of places I walk about half a year ago and since then I've found out so much about the history of local areas and places more further abroad.
There are plenty of books about different parts of the UK and it's history that you can read and go to those locations, either in tours (if that spot has it) or just walk it yourself.
What I personally like to do is look in Ordinance Survey maps for any possible or definite historic sites (anything from Tummuli to ancient burial ground), look around the area and try and build a picture in my head of the area and guess or hypothesise the age and then head back home and read up on it either online or in a book.
We've got quite a long and varied history in Britain and a lot of it is intact or at least protected due to how damn charming and beautiful we are as people.
Pic: a Bothy by the same stream in the Brecon Beacons (Grwyne Fawr to be exact)
>>937614
This is true... On the farm I live/work on we have a roman made road (now a footpath/bridleway) up to the local wind mill (now a house) which goes past a "historic mound" (now a slight hill in one of our fields).
>>937614
I'm surprised with this for pretty much every European country to be frank, including mine. The more I travel and the more I read about all kind of places I realize things happened absolutely everywhere

Not really following the scene anymore, but still enjoying the music. Actually have Wolves in the Throne Room playing now. Like a pleb, but it's okay because it's a vinyl I got in 2008 or so during a very underground concert. My scene cred remains untarnished. Anyway, more Haute Fagnes. Should've cleaned my lens though.
Also mad jelly of where you live with them mountains.
>>941483
Wolves are great, I'm listening to some Moonsorrow right now, not really the same thing but they both like atmospheres and looong pieces
Are the Hautes Fagnes also called this way in Flemish ?
>Also mad jelly of where you live with them mountains
It's the mighty Savoy, I'm from here tho only spending the winter for work. Origninaly I'm from near the Mediterranean in Languedoc, with smaller and greener mountains pic related. I'll try climbing the Mont Blanc at the end of the season if conditions allow it

Actually, do you know of any forested land that I can buy? I'm Googling right now around the border with France in Wallony, but my French is still pretty amateur
>>941924
is that the grotto?
>>942492
Unfortunately not - I'm not from the region. Cheapest ground is probably found in Hainaut/Henegouwen, as it's the poorest region in the country. If you drive around however, you'll find plenty of land for sale. Look in local newspapers as well. Keep in mind every piece of land has a status assigned to it (be it forest/homes/industry/agriculture etc) and one can only build on the designated plots, except for maybe a small cabin. Logging is also restricted and requires a - usually easily obtained if request is reasonable - permit.
Also, all rules can be slightly bent. But not too much. Unless you know the right people.

>>942796
Two weeks ago I was post-holing 4 feet deep in Zion around the Wildcat Canyon TH. It was fucking horrible
>>943037
I don't hunt myself, so I don't know much about the legal side, but make sure you look up the hunting laws, they tend to change on the regular; species may or may not be hunted, hunting season for this or that species changes, certain methods may be (dis)allowed etc - don't know about hunting on private land.
Hunting license is also required, and you'll have to take an exam for that. May require learning French or Dutch, as I do not know if it can be taken in English.
>>943430

Does it feel like for anyone else that the more miserable the weather and activity, the more happy you are?
I've done hiked around these mountains in the summer and I never had as much fun crawling up muddy hills in the rain and getting soaked. Its like the more uncomfortable I am, the happier, and when I'm comfy, I'm depressed.
>>946820
I'm actually more uncomfortable when hiking under a burning sun and sweating liek there's no tomorrow than getting soaked in the cold tbf. I can see what you mean though
>>946328
Alri I see
That's pretty far from mountains, lake Erie is looking good tho
>>946918
I guess at least for myself physical discomfort and suckiness roots me firmly in reality and lets me focus more on the things around me.
I have a wandering mind so getting into the rhythm and trudging along in discomfort feels like a form of meditation.
It's also probably because I'm extremely fair skinned and it seems like sunny days are too bright and searing to me. I need to move to oregon or something.
