Any coyote hunters here? I've never done it before but I want to get into it. I've read some stuff about it but I have a few questions.

>Is it possible to do without calls or would I be wasting my time?
>What is the best time of day (or night?) to hunt?
>About how much do the furs sell for

also general coyote thread.

You can call or not, use double cotton tail.
Best to go out right early in the morning or right before dark
And depends where you live (canadaian here so average 120 each) and if you shoot them or trap them (trapping won't fuck their fur up so worth more) and what firearm you use. 12 gauge actually does very well and doesn't fuck their fur up as bad as you'd think, occasionally I use my Rossi ranch hand in 45 colt

Not hard, to be honest I am half Hutterite and they do some skinning for me and are very crafty with making dresses and whatnot. Wouldn't be a problem for them at all, for a hell of a lot less than 300 burgerbucks.
>>
>>920965
I really love coyotes, mostly because I find them to be rather impressive animals for a lot of reasons. Also, I grew-up with a disgusting stinking filthy health code-violating dump of a duck farm next door and the coyotes would absolutely ravage the ducks and I found solace in that.

ok, my last coyote recording (possibly ever) and maybe my best:

>>
>>921110
Cool recording. I don't hate coyotes, but I live on a farm too and they're a nuisance, stealing animals and such.
>>
>>921115
Yeah they'll fuck shit up if you don't keep on 'em. I've lost a couple cats to them over the years but never kept animals or anything where I had to fence and shoot them. My neighbors weren't even competent enough to make decent fences so it was mayhem for those ducks.
>>
>>921115
They're very smart, but cost farmers a tone every year. So I'm contracted out to kill them on farm land. Pretty awesome

Global rule 3.
>>
>>921152
Well, that's not the first time.
>>
On the farm it was always population control with the coyotes. We kept the back half of the pasture tall so the critters had a place to be, and too keep the dust under control (central Texas). The coyotes are no different, we leave them alone, they leave us alone. There was a line in the sand, and if they stayed on their side we didn't bother them, but if chickens started to disappear we'd camp the round pin and shoot any that came into the clearing between the barn and the pasture. Plenty of food out there, no need to get lazy.

Hi OP,

I shoot rabbits in NZ (literally shoot 50 a day/night as pest control in summer).

There are rabbits that will never be shot because it is just their uncanny nature and rabbits you will never get unless you block up their warrens and magtox them.

I shoot the paddocks then I dog the paddocks for the ones that wouldnt be shot. I would imagine same thing goes for coyotes.

With that I will suggest you adopt a retired racing greyhound doing a benificial service to yourself and the dog, toilet training will be the first hurdle then recall. After you have trained your main dog adopt another and once you have 3 you should have a good pack for coursing coyotes. A pitbull x greyhound is also a good choice but may not be easily obtained.
>>
>>921959
I thought that pic was a dog leaping on a kangaroo at first.
>>
>>920965
Yes, I do it that way.
Close to night or early morning (when I do)
I just leave 'em, let 'em rot.
>>
>>921058
Do you eat the meat? If so, how do you prepare it?
>>
>>922128
You shouldn't eat predators. They have lots of toxins in them. Not to say you can't, but doing it regularly is bad for you.
>>
Can I hunt coyotes with a .22 LR
>>
>>922303
1. That rule is for fish

2. Fuck off California
>>
>>922335
I mean you could, but you're more likely to wound them than kill them. I use .223, which seems to be a pretty common choice.
>>922344
The principle is the same though.
>>
>>922303
That's fuddlore.
>>
>>922584
it really isn't. toxins build up, that is why they are toxins.

lol morons on /out/ beleive in global warming but think predator toxicity is fake...
>>
>>922584
TIL bioaccumulation is "fuddlore"
>>
>>922344
Bioaccumulation and magnification are general concepts, not aquatics-specific.

The threat is only more abundant in aquatic systems because we dump all of our soluble waste in them, and by nature of the systems the wastes become concentrated.

I was out shooting rabbits and saw 2 feral cats, I tried to predator call them in by sucking the back of my hand and after 20 minutes had no luck, when I took a rest from the scope I noticed a grey tabby about 8 metres in front of me that was stalking up through the grass had frozen.I wound my scope down to 3 and put the mark between its nose and eyes thinking with my scope over bore height and the angle that would put me either head, neck or front chest either of which would be acceptable. I put my hand on top of the barrel hold it down anticipating a double tap quick follow up shot. I shot at the end of my out breath and the very instant I shot and heard the thock of the impact (I shoot suppressed) made by the subsonic 42gr winchester power point I registered a flash of movement and saw only puffs of fur in the wind then half a second later heard one of the fence wires ping like a guitar string about 20 metres away. I had no time for a second shot and it was so fast I couldnt even track a blood trail. I brought the dachshund up and she couldnt find a trail let alone the dead cat.

My point is I think predators are alot harder to put down than other game and I think a .22lr even with good shot placement isnt ethical.

Tell me which toxins they are and what effect they have on the human body.

>>
>>922668
I figured.
I just wanted to remind that dummy that he himself doesn't even know what those "toxins" mean or are.
Now he realizes hes just spouting some shit he heard from some other dummy.
>>
Killings coyotes is detrimental to anywhere in Texas due to the fact that we have a rampant rabbit overpopulation
>>
>>922335
Ive done it in two shots, had to hit it on the run. Not worth the risk of just wounding it
