#110-"$40 Wobble Stiks" Edition

Previous Thread:
>>910145

Thinking about buying an Ugly Stik for anything besides soaking bait? Here's why you shouldn't:
>1) Berkley Lightning Rod is $39 everywhere
>2) Berkley Lightning Rod Shock is $49 most places
>3) Berkley Lightning Rod Shock is $39 at Walmart
>4) Shimano Sellus is $59 with great varieties and actions for bass fishing and a good reel seat
>5) Fenwick Eagle is $49-$59 and has what we call "Action" and "Sensitivity"
>6) No. 8 Blackout is $79 and will make you feel like a respectable angler
>7) Other rods are offered in a variety of actions and weights to better fit your needs
>8) An Ugly Stik will still break when you slam the tip in your car door
>9) Fiberglass is for Corvettes, not casting lures
>10) Ugly Stiks weigh a ton compared to similar size graphite composite rods which means terrible balance and can make your arm tired without the proper fapping routine to build strength

Still waiting for help with the beginner guides on the Pastebin. I put a little saltwater one in there, but I want to do a river one possibly. Skid typed up a saltwater guide so enjoy the autism and CAbaymang just did a trout one.

Talk about fishin
>>
You guys should get into ultralight fishing where the line weight is 1-5lbs and you use tiny jigheads and tiny soft plastics
>>
>>911369
And get fish whose weight isnt over 100 grams.
>>
>>911367
Yqll got anything for fishin forage sea fish in pastebin? Bait hook sinker things
>>
>>911370
So it's about the experience of catching the fish not about size and weight
>>
Does anyone know where the fuck I would go to approach someone with a lot of trash fish?
I raise monitor lizards, and it'd be an absolute miracle if I could somehow find someone getting rid of a ton of weird stuff that no one actually wants to eat.
What happens to all the bycatch from trawlers? Would there be a way I could approach someone and offer to pay a little for a trashbag of bycatch or something?
>>
>>911377
Get a casting net and go get fish yourself. It's fun, and you can get catch a lot more bait fish than you would with a rod and reel once you get your throws down.
I assume you already are near water considering you're talking about approaching commercial fishermen
>>
>>911378
Yeah, I'm near Los Angeles.
Would that actually get me a ton of different stuff? I'm trying to avoid it being just smelt. My ideal is a big random batch of 4-10" long fish/inverts but i'll take anything I can get.
>>
>>911379
>>911378
Just looked into it, and supposedly cast netting is illegal in all of southern california
>>
>>911379
Couldnt tell ya about west coast, but here in OBX if you're willing to wade a bit youre sure to catch some ballyhoo, crabs, peanuts, small bluefish, etc.
It's still fishing, not catching, so theres no guarantee, but I usually end up with enough jack and hoos to go out for a half day of fishing within an hour.
Or you can go to any tackle shop and buy all the bait you want, probably won't be too cheap tho, and sometimes they brine what's already dead and idk if your lizards would take to that or not.
Just fyi also you'll suck ass at throwing for a good bit, and smaller nets are significantly easier to throw.

Yuro, it's still fun. You can get some fish around a pound and panfish like big bluegill and especially those Mayans and other cichlids are the hardest fighting freshwater fish pound for pound.

I like the Mini Mites or 1/16oz underspins with ~1.5" minnows or grubs. Run them on my Sienna 500 with 6lb braid. Small Rapalas, those tiny 1/8oz Rat-L-Traps, and Mepps Agila #00, #0, and #1 are all good too but sometimes the really light hard baits can be difficult to work if you have a cross wind.

Its about the experience of fishing for me. But when i do catch every once in a blue moon, i like it to be a fish of legally eidble size, that will put up a fight, instead of being lighter than the sinker i use.

>>911367
I don't get the hate for ugly stiks, both my rods are stiks and I only lure fish. Never noticed any problems whatsoever.

Also they have the best looks out of any rod and an extremely comfortable grip Im o

Have you ever used another rod? They are much better all around than ugly stiks. The uglystik casting rods aren't terrible for crank/jerks, but the spinning rods are really only good for live bait.

If they had the tiniest bit of sensitivity they'd be alright, but you can't really feel anything with the spinning rod. The casting is alright.
>>
>>911408
I fish almost exclusively salt water so I guess maybe bass fishing is different as well as the other guy who said setting the hook is hard. Most fish hit it so hard there's no way you wouldn't know you had one on yet I can sill tie on a bream hook and feel bites from 2 inch long tiger grubs.

They may not be THE BEST but everyone in real life I've asked about them like em while the people here jerk themselves off over spending around the same/a lot more on a rod that is essentially the same exact thing.
>>
>>911415
Deleted a part of that post and fucked it up. Meant to say I think detecting bites and setting the hook sounded like a stupid point.
>>
>>911393
>fish hold on 18x longer!

If you use a hook they will hold on even longer than that.
>>
>>911416
Not those anons, but all my bites are detected via the line, not the rod. I keep track of the line with my eyes and my fingers. I use spinning reels and the hand on the pole has one finger touching the line at all times; even during retrieve. Thus, the rod only matters to me for casting, I don't even need it much to play the fish. They just make reeling in much easier.

If I used the rod itself to detect bites, I'd lose a shitload of fish.
>>
>>911415
>while the people here jerk themselves off over spending around the same/a lot more on a rod that is essentially the same exact thing.
>the same exact thing

They really aren't though that's what I'm trying to say. With my ugly stik spinning rod I can't tell if im getting a bite or stuck on a rock because I literally won't be able to feel anything I'll just see the rod tip bend. For the same price or a tiny bit more I could get something that actually has feeling. Not to mention trying to work a jig or something when your rod is super bendy is terrible.

If you like ugly stiks then use them. No one really cares. There's just better stuff out there.

>1.5"+ bend with ZERO WEIGHT

>>911418
The scent does help though. When fishing hard baits, often times if a fish hits the body of the lure and you don't hook them, they won't go after it again because it is just hard tasteless plastic or metal. With scented soft plastics, fish will bite multiple times if you miss the hook set the first time. They rip the tails off those curly tail Gulps.
>>
>>911367
>>911366
>No 8 Blackouts for around $80
Tackle Warehouse as for $55, spinning, didn't check casting.
>>
>>911415
>rod that is essentially the same exact thing
They're not. I have to Ugly GX2's, 4'8" UL and either 5'6" or 6'. Don't get me wrong, I like them, the UL is fun as all hell and a 4" perch can feel like a fish BUT they are not my 1st choices if I'm walking out the door. They are whippy and as TX said, nowhere near as sensitive. I don't think anyone is knocking them. Great cheap semi-indestructible rods. Just try something else sometime even if it's borrowed to see the difference.
>>
>>911393
If you where going to do this >>911369
And still wanted to be able to target cover 25+ yards out for panfish. What would the set up even look like? Do they make a memecaster that can toss tiny lures like that?
>>
>>911432
If you are doing anything besides soaking bait, I'm knocking you for buying an Ugly Stik when stuff like the Berkley Lightning Rod is the same price. Hell, at least get something like Bass Pro's Graphite Series for the same money if not a little less.

>>911433
It's hard to setup memecasters for real light weight just because of how they work. The weight of the lure needs to overcome the momentum of the spool and everything for it to go anywhere.

If I wanted to do that, I would get a ~2000 size reel (a little larger than UL but not quite M) and spool it up with a bunch of 6lb braid or possibly 4lb mono if you are going to stay around 1/8oz lures a lot. Then get a nice long rod, like 7'-7'6" which will help with distance and try to find it in UL with nice fast action or L, just something that will load up welp with that lure weight and get you the distance.
>>
>>911437
What would be a good spinning rod?
>>
Fuck it I'm going to cabelas.
>>
>>911433 is me
i'm more of a spinster, but if you have to use light line with light gear or the line would just weight the jig/metal down, if you want to cast far gotta use 3gram jighead even thats quite heavy

i live in Australia so we have a lot of coastal and not as much fresh water lakes

also heres my softplastic and metal jig i use

Idk everybody reccommends the Okuma SST UL rod in like 7'3". Play around with some different stuff because when you get to those lighter weights you really want to match the rod correctly. If it is too stiff or too light, it will be hard to get any distancr.

depends on the type of commie fishing they do.
it never hurts to ask and offer up a case of beer for their efforts. you also might want to look and see if there is a bait service in your area. cast netters or net boats. they always end up with dead bait which they toss.
I worked commie boats for a few years and it was illegal to keep by catch. I used to fill a igloo with bait to take home to freeze all the time. it wasnt until some time later like a year or so when i realized what i was doing could've lost my friend his boat & license. guys on the boat were like "fuck i always thought that was your lunch in the cooler" lol

>>911501
having played with it a little i may need to replace the reel but im going to try to fix it first. the drag kicks in maybe 1/3 of the time. im not sure if i want to try to up weight this rod and run 6 weight line or if i want to let it be a five weight. but i think i know what im going to do with it, i think im going to put wf5f2/3 or wf6s2/3 line on it, and it will wind up being used for panfish and cmall bass, but to cast those lures that are too light to cast conventionally (1'' floating rapala, the tiny tiny mepps, stuff like that) as well as some smaller bass flies like big wooly buggers, moderate sized poppers, stuff like that. or maybe i could try to get one over on cabelas, break it in the middle section, send it back, then say "actually, can you send me a 6 weight instead?"
not really though, i dig it, i want to keep it and use it, though i might buy a 3 forks 6 weight, wf6f line, and a few spool next time theres a sale and just swich this reel between them.

dont pick too hard or hell know youre picking just to pick. find something weird about it to justify that lost 5. email him like "well, the line on there is shite and ive gotta replace that so thats a few pounds, plus to get the cash id have to stop and get a ten broken, which is a hassle"
but then make sure you pay in a 20 and a 10, or three 10s, but dont show him any singles or 5s

Nothing but panfish and baitfish in this area. I'm just playing with the materials I got for cheap or free. I'm experimenting with Tyvek from a postal envelope I received in the mail today. I really need to get some UV epoxy to compliment the 2-part epoxy I already have.

I agree in that most stuff is just for the fishermen. Fly tying is more artform than anything else. I mean a good Kebari fly is all most people really need anyway.

Anyway I just fixed it, no idea how. I took it apart and put it back together exactly how it came apart but for some reason it works now.
>>
How do dead shiners work as ice pike bait? I don't have a bait shop near me and walmart sells dead shiners pretty cheap.
>>
>>911593
I disagree, you only need wooly buggers and pheasant tails. Never found a stream that didn't have at least one of a minnow, leech, strongly nymph (wooly buggwr) or mayfly nymphs. And for dries as long as you have adams you're set
>>
>>911609
I'd say forget the shiners, and GO get a bag of frozen smelts. I've caught exactly nothing in those bags of baitfish. If you've got a creek near by that's not frozen yet, get a #12-#14 hook with a few maggots on it and get some of pic related
They probably won't be the exact same thing but any little baitfish. If you can find a spot where a storm drain dumps in fish there.

>>
>>911610
The thing with kebari is that they are impressionistic and look like most everything. That's why they work so well. FYI, a Sakasa Kebari is also has a "pheasant tail" pattern. A wooly bugger is left only with leech imitation since wooly bugger and kebari immate everything else, on various size scales of course. As far as adams goes, just use a dry kebari.

Trout and char are not all that picky really.

>>911511
It does help with Texas rigs and stuff where you really need the fish to grab the whole bait and basically swallow it. It's not really an attractant with gamefish, they still strike it because it moves like food but after they hit it they don't spit it out like a hardbait.

This 7' 2-8 lb line combo rod and reel
>>
>>911640
Picked up 300yards of 6lb spiderwire invisi braid at the bargin bin marked down for $36 to $16 and a 400 piece crappie lure box marked from $45 to $20.
>>
>>911370
I use an ultralight with 6lbs for everything, I've caught 40lbs catfish with it. Granted you'll strip the mechanisms of your reel every few months of heavy use but it's much more challenging and for that I really enjoy it. Bass fishing is the best when using ultralight. I don't use small dinkbaits though, I usually stick to finesse presentations of soft plastic lures but not downsized ones just less weight and a generally slower approach/action. Set your drag right and use a leader of tougher line when fishing for really big stuff or anything with teeth and I guarantee it's possible to land up to 50lbs fish with an ultralight rod and reel and 6lb test line. Pic related, it's an old pic of mine of a 15lbs catfish I caught on a little ultralight rod and reel and 6lbs line.

I've been buying uber cheap knock off brands from China for literal pennies. It is actually good stuff. I can't even fathom how they make a profit with it since they have to ship it from China to the USA and that must be most of the price. It must be smuggled with a family member or something.
>>
>>911585
You guys don't even get bullseye sneks like in the pic. That's South FL. And I don't think they have bounties but there is something I remember about lionfish but it isn't cash.

>>911643
>Spiderwire
Gross. It's not that bad but keep an eye on it. And I wanted to try that InvisiBraid for awhile but wasn't trying to pay like $45 for a spool.
>>
>>911640
Btw that's a good price. And that's cool that they offered the lighter combo in a 7' rod. Most of the time a reel that size will be on a 5'6" rod or some bullshit.

>>911638
I have a bottle of some scent I found at the lake but never actually use it. Tried it a couple times and didn't notice a difference. Plus bass don't really hunt using smell anyway.
>>
>>911649
I have always liked spiderwire it's good stuff. And this one I just got was casting so well I tossed my lures into trees on the other side of the river twice. It says 6lb but I had to put about 20lb or more on it to break off.
>>
>>911659
You'll see why people hate it after some time. Especially if you use it with PowerPro or another good brand on other rods. I mean it is smooth and everything else about it is fine but it just frays way too easily so make sure you are looking at your line whenever you take it out. Especially on 6lb braid, it won't take much to weaken it to nothing.
>>
>>911655
>>911658
They had lews combo that was cheaper but it was shorter, stiffer, and was rated for 1/8 oz. This one goes down to 1/16 oz.

Spiderwire has been my top brand for years it's tough as nails. I use 50# Spiderwire to make my catfish/gar leaders because it's cheaper and lighter than steal leaders and still doesn't die to the gar teeth. After I land a gar I can just clip on a new leader and get my hook and swivel from the old one to make a new one.
>>
>>911662
I don't like the coating on powerpro
>>
>>911669
The lack of coating on the 6lb spider wire becomes tiresome imo. I wouldn't say it frays but line spin seems to 'unravel' the line and put weird kinks in it where it opens into multiple strings
>>
>>911669
Have you ever actually run PowerPro? It is stiff when you first get it but after a few times in the water it softens up really nice.

>tfw still need to soften up the line on that Lew's but stuck here with Comcast guy at my house trying to fix cable

>>911669
how do you mean? Power pro is objectively better than spider wire in every way
>>
>>911673
Maybe I'll have too see after using it with a spinning reel some more. This is only my second spinning reel and the first time using braid on one so time will tell. If it comes to it have some powerpro in my gear bag.
>>
>>911676
I have used it a few times but allways rip it off and go back to Spiderwire. The coating always rubs off on my fingers or lets into the worm on my reel.
>>
Got my secret Santa shipped finally. Sorry for being the slowpoke.

>>911676
Tbh I prefer brand new power pro when it's still stiff. I think I'm just weird tho.

hello /out/

i feel like i should make my own thread, but decided to post here.

i have a question related to /out/boards.
i have an idea of what motor i could get and what boat i want to buy, but i want some input about the process of buying a boat (for fishing).

i know that you'd have to deal with a title/registration (im looking at used ones) on motorized boats and something about registering it with the DMV .
the boat im looking at is less than 14 foot, though.
anyone here have an idea how the process goes? (im in jew yoik, btw)

also, is it possible to launch a (small, motorized) boat (like a RIB) off a beach? is it legal?
>>
>>911696
Lets start with.

Im in New York as well. If it has a motor it needs to be registered. The size doesn't really matter its just cheaper the smaller you go. Im not sure on the laws for launching them but if its one of those inflatable ones and your not in a crowded area I dont see why you couldn't. If the boat you get has a trailer that will require a separate registration as well and depending on when it was inspected it might need to be redone.
>>
>>911687
Would you be offended if I tried to trade that 5 weight for a 6 weight? It's not that I don't love it, thats a solid combo, it's just that I have a light and a heavy, and I need a medium more than a medium light. I'd still consider it to be from you, it's just i don't think I'd use this one and I'd hate to see it just collecting dust. I'd hate selling, trading, or exchanging it too, but I'd even more hate seeing the rod go unused. I'd keep the reel but the rod I'm scared I won't use/Will use once then never use again.
>>
>>911696
I don't know the process for paperwork but just but a 12 foot aluminum boat for 200-400 then put an outboard on it

Hell you can throw in the trash for all I care. I just had no money and something I thought you could find some use for be it using it or trading it. What ever you do with it is better than what's been doing at my house (gathering dust on the case).
>>
>>911719
Also like I said if nothing else it's a nice case to use for another one that you might have. Old gear is always usefull for something I have all sorts off penn reels that are being used for parts for other penn reels. I have even cut eyes off old busted rods to repair rods with bad eyes. I knew if anyone would find a use for a fly rod and reel it would be you.

>>
>>911719
Probably what I'll do is keep the rod case, then see what I can do about trading it in at cabelas for a 6 weight combo, because this reel is acting up again. The rod case I'm keeping for sure. I'd love to keep the rod to steal the blank to make a badass crappie rod, but I don't want to trade in just the reel and get just a reel when I can trade in the rod and reel and get back a rod, reel, line and backing.
>>
>>911742
>They are shit for the ecosystem tho.

Most freshwater sportfish in the USA are transplants from other parts and are not native. They of course wrecked the ecosystem. Now people are complaining that something else is becoming a problem and destroying their current ecosystem. Of course the sneks will and have gone into the native ranges of bass too.

here's a question.

where did those native fish come from?

Did they start as something else and evolve into those fish over time?

and if so why arnt they native to the huge areas that so many of them thrive in now?
>>
>>911804
Dear lord.

Also I do.
>>
>>911804
I had just as bad on a conventional reel...
All i had to do was drop the sinker straight down. Forgot to thumb the line. Switched to hand line after that, the reel was right hand retrieve anyway so it was fuckin hard.
>>
>>911805
They evolved in those locations. They couldn't move to new areas because the drainage basins never connected to those other locations. Then humans thought tourism was great and spread the sport species around everywhere. The food species from other countries also got released or escaped from their enclosures simply because someone thought they were tasty and wanted them in the USA also.

The same goes for fish from the USA. Bass are really invasive in some countries.

I was gunna say then how come they didnt evolve in Canadian waters since small mouth thrive so well up there but im pretty sure that whole country was under an ice sheet not that long ago. I need to do more research on this. Must have taken a long ass time for each and every lake and pond up there to be populated all with the same species.

Cats are being lazy. They normally chase it around but they just ate a bunch and are lazy now.

Am I the only one who thinks this could actually be a decent reel? I mean 50%+ of the cost of any other reel comes from the brand name, R&D, and paying for Kevin Van Dam's mortgage. Not much of the actual money is paying for the product itself.

Now imagine some Chink company just copies high end reels, doesn't have to give shit to KVD, Bass Pro and Cabela's aren't making their 30% profit on it, etc.

When you buy a $300Shimano, you are probably paying like $80 for the actual labor, materials, and logistics getting the reel to you. So if you buy a $100 Shishamo, you are probably paying for about $80 worth of reel shipped to your door.

I wouldn't actually buy that one but there are a whole lot for $30-$40 that would probably be $100 reels with an Abu label on it. It would be fun to abuse the hell out of it.

Need some suggestions for reels.
Can fly fishing rods use spin reels?

at least kastking is a known brand though. Extreme Philly Fishing shills them, he likes them since they are so cheap. Idk about their casters though he only uses their spinning reels
>>
>>911892

If you hate it you can always gift me my first memecaster
>>
>>911919
If you gonna keep bass fishing, you should get down on one of those cheaper Abu memecaster combos. Their rods are normally straight too.

You also need another spinning setup when you get sick of that GX2 combo. Next time we go fishin I'm gonna let you use that Okuma Lightning Rod combo just to show you what options you have even with budget stuff.

>>
>>911901
I've been debating whether I should get a baitcaster. It seems like a huge bitch to use compared to the benefits. I may get one of these cheap chink reels in the future to try it out.

>>
>>911923
Don't do the cheap ass one. Drop ~$100 on a Lew's or Abu combo at least and you should be straight.

>>911922
Hide it from her. But you should at least get down on a new reel and get rid of that Ugly Stik one. As much as I hate those rods, if you spent $29 on a Sienna (or $19 of Dick's has another sale) it would make it so much nicer. Or Bass Pro still has the Sahara for $49 and that's a reel you could use for a decade and never want to replace.

But once you buy the Sahara, I'll bug the hell out of you until you get rid of the rod and put it on a Fenwick Eagle.

I really want to buy one of those Saharas but gotta spend money on other people right now and I don't even have enough to deal with all that.

x-rap is a good bait to have.

those gotchas cast well, will get macs. swap out the hooks for smaller vmc's or use them to drag through schools of bait and snag em.

spinners work. you have to toss parallel ..they corrode fast in the surf.

These are good for Florida Pompano and spot/croaker.

Anybody do big game stuff offshore? I need to know because I just got access to a boat...and it's filthy. No idea how to clean the bilge but it needs it badly. The batteries turn over and engine works and most electrical stuff works but there's green shit in some metal parts. There's mold underneath on the cushions and shit. There's broken stuff everywhere. And there's lights that don't work and the toilet smells horrible and only works half the time.

My idea was grab a buddy or two and a shit-ton of bleach, windex, sand paper, bilge cleaner, dish soap, and start going to town. Anything I'm missing? Dust masks for the mold? Power washer? I'm clueless.

Oh, and it's drydocked. Can't pump bilge residue in water and no hose nearby on drydock...and no idea how to pump the toilet tank clean.

Anybody /bo/at here?

looks cool as is but... and yes people use spinners on fly rods. some come as a combo with a handle that extends the butt section. whats the reel seat look like?
you have lots of reels to choose from for this rod. depends on how much you want to spend.

scrub it first rinse it all out, you can pressure wash it but be really careful and use the fan tips. unhook the bilge and flush it, scrub the lines, check the hookup and flush the reservoir and the screen out. check bilge electric and check your fuses. you can hear the bilge pump run. dont run it without water or itll burn out. you can use cut off milk jugs to slop out the mildew water. a baby bottle cleaner or a bong brush works good for clearing the lines of debris.

how did you start the motor with no water?

Samaki nigga or any rod using nano fibre technology, tougher rods yet skinnier than Ugly Stiks thus way more flex to it, 6ft rod is rated 4-7kg and it's way thinner than my 6' 5" 2-4kg rod in the top end

>>911958
For putting your hook on or line to tie it onto.
>>
>>911955
That No.8 Blackout rod on sale sounds like a good deal. Bass Pro might still have the Bionic Blade rods on sale. Fenwick Eagle, Shimano Sedona, idk since rods are so much preference.

And if you do PowerPro, go with #20 on the medium spinning combo. #30 will be overkill and you will lose casting distance and #20 is still strong to land anything you would hook on the M combo.

And flr the rod size, if you think you are gonna be doing lots of 1/2oz-3/4oz stuff, maybe go ~7' MH. If you think it will be more 1/4oz-1/2oz, ~7' M with fast action.

A lot of rods do it on the back side (so top on a spinning combo) and I prefer that.

I'm not a fan of those hook keepers on the Ugly Stiks though. You can't hang weedless Texas rigs on it without taking the hook out of the bait.

I never said anything bad about them. I just said that you can get a little more for your money with a lot of competitors but a Shimano won't fail.

It's pretty easy to do when spinning rods have the hook keeper right on the base of the rod near the handle. It will be right near where you hold the line when you cast and somehow gets caught up.

>>912019
Yeah I feel ya. I have lost way too many Mepps and other baits because of that. Braid can help because sometimes you can actually bend the hook a bit and get it off. 15lb+ will bend trebles on lots of smaller to medium size lures.

But I think some dudes building inlines are doing it so they don't lose $7 Mepps in tricky spots. And others do it because it's a hobby or they are just bored.

In real shitty spots, best bet is always something like Zoom Swimmin Super Flukes or KVD Caffeine Shads with a 4/0 weighted swimbait hook.
>>
>>912020
I was gonna say that about those wire loops. They might keep em off wood and rocks, but those fuckers pick up 5x more of that stringy algae than a plain hook.

>>912019
>>912021
Also trebles are so much worse than single hooks with snags. And then stuff like spinnerbaits, jigheads, and swimbaits like Storms with the single hook on top are pretty tough to get snagged on stuff as well. Even certain crankbaits tend to bounce off lots of stuff because the lip hits stuff before any hooks.
>>
>>912019
hook guards dont always work well.
known fact, otherwise more mfgs would be using them. they add weight and effect the action

Gotta rig it right so it swims upright.

Pic related comes in all different sizes, swim upright so that hook always stays on top, and they're cheap enough that it's not the end of the world if you lose em. Storm, Tsunami, even PowerBait.

Otherwise get down on the Super Flukes and swimbait hooks.
>>
>>911923
They really aren't. The birds nest I got was 100% my fault for being retarded. I mostly use meme casters, but spinning reels are nice for the lighter stuff. Ohh, there's a shallow version of those x rap long cast

Now I'm interested. Tell me how those are. I probably won't grab one till they drop in price though. They are pretty much as expensive as an LC flashminnow. I have an 3/4 saltwater x-rap but their casting isn't really impressive for me. Maybe those heavier long cast can go far.
>>
>>912050
I'll take it out by the end of the weekend and toss it around. Feels really nice like it'll cast a mile
>>
>>912052
One problem with the x-rap I have is that despite having a good weight, it doesn't "fly" as nicely as the LC flashminnow or the daiwa sp to get that nice "spiral" straight flight like a football. It often tumble out of the "spiral" a lot more. Idk if the x rap long cast weight shifting will be better. How often it is to fly straight is why I like to throw the LC flashminnow despite it being pretty light. The single hook aspect of the x-rap long cast still attract me. Hopefully it will drop to around $10 and I might consider getting one.
>>
>>911961
Not him but on my Shimano Sellus rod the hook keeper is in the exact center of mass of the rod and reel and so naturally that's where I hold the rod when I'm carrying it from place to place and as a result I don't use the hook keeper and instead just use an eyelet
>>
>>911879
I started casting on the side more than over the top more lately. Seems like you have less slack line afterwards for same or better distance.

Do you know what the problem with fishing is? You can't carry all your equipment with you. I have a like 4 tackle boxes I think and I'm running out of room. I filled this one this fall-winter mostly with stuff I've made. Then when I'm out fishing, I only end up using 2-3 lures at most, the entire time.

I think I need to get a nice hiking backpack I can use to carry gear. Then I can carry my cook kit and don't have to return to the vehicle to make a meal.

>>912009
I never put weedguards on my stuff. I don't have trouble with snags...except when I catch a tree branch overhead. Which can be often since everything here is overhung with bushes, weeds, and trees. In the water, the worst you get are leaves in the fall. There's no aquatic plants in the streams/rivers down in the water itself. In the lakes there are some aquatic plants, but I've never had trouble with the hooks actually snagging it. I only bring that in when the fish on the hook wind around into it as I'm reeling them in.

There are no top water plants like lotus, duckweed, or lily pads here either. The best cover you can hope to punch through is a flotilla of Styrofoam bait containers.

Nice. What type of fly box do you use when fishing?

There was some burning I won't deny. I was surprised at how fast the panko browned, won't let that happen again

It was really good still, surf perch is some of the tastiest fish. I've heard people say it is some fantastic sashimi too, asians will catch them on the pier, clean/fillet them, then just start chompin down lol

Your in upstate NY as well? Shieet.

As for what rod to get they are all basically the same thing. Just go to any outfitter and find one you like that isn't too expensive. I think my little Abu Ice series combo was only like $30-$40.

cut the hook off and add split ring
def add a trailer. those mogambos are the wrong ones for spros. theyre good on ling jigs so keep them, see pic. theyre the best trailer. lots of flutter. you can use a bass type long body grub as well but they get chewed pretty quick.

white sea bass love bombers tipped with a whole squid. they dont work so well on the straight retrieve but kill it in the rocks.

Like a regular offset hook?
>>
>>912309
If you did it like that, the jig head would be crooked relative to the soft plastic. I doubt it would effect the action, but it'd bother my austism for sure.
>>
>>912230
What are you even talking about? Poor people ride bikes. Poor people are often blacks and immigrants who steal fish out of slot and keep everything they catch.
>>
>>912309
the hook sticks up like 1/4 beyond the worm on these...wtf?
>>
>>912325
If you ran it in something like those KVD shads where they have the groove for the hook on the top and bottom of the bait, the jighead could end up in there somewhat straight. I'm sure they are for some specific soft bait tho. Probably saltwater.

How big are the hooks anyway?
>>
>>912329
People always complain about that. But you can do it where you poke the barb through like in that pic and then stick the very tip of the hook back into the worm. Some people do it that way but I normally keep mine under the skin of the bait with the tip just about to come through.
>>
>>912333
Honestly if I was using it for a swimbait I would just rig it straight and leave the little bit sticking out of the top. Wouldn't really be a big deal.

Have you used the KVD Caffeine Shads yet? Best swimbait like that I have ever used. They are a tiny bit smaller than Super Flukes but bigger than the Jr's and they have a slot on the top as well as the bottom so the hook stays in there and comes out super easy when you set it. Plus it is like the only soft bait you can rig weedless like that and use the same bait for days because the hook can be poking through the plastic but the tip still sits in that slot so it won't snag on shit.
>>
>>912349
I haven't. I don't really use swimbaits in general so I have like 2 packs of super flukes and one super fluke jr. And they get used as trailers mostly

>>912425
You can eat puffs, but not when they are that old. The center should be white. They actually taste pretty bland. Very light nutty flavor.
>>
>>912449
>Are they normally purple on the inside or is that the signs of an old and overly mature shroom?

Normally they are pure white inside then turn black then green. White is the stage when you eat them. Black and green are stages when they are turning into a giant bag of fungi spores. When green they are normally super powdery and will explode into a cloud of spores when you step on them. The rule of thumb is to only eat them when they are pure white and don't have discoloration. When they start to turn colors they can have bad bacteria in them.
