I have always known there were probably deer in my neighborhood but this is the first time I actually saw one in my yard.
I am not looking to actually feed them, like leaving out deer chow to attract more. But what kind of shrubs can I grow that will keep them from going hungry in the winter?

I don't know about shrubs but white acorns are a deer's favorite food. Oaks are great but you might find an issue with getting one.

All my red oaks are dying off form old age and disease. I still have like six huge chestnut oaks and a three foot tall red oak that I am going to let grow but it will be years before that can start dropping any acorns.
