#96-"Go Cubs Go" Edition

Previous Thread:
>>882399

Anybody else have anything to add to the Pastebin or Imgur? I put a little saltwater one in there, but I want to do a river one possibly and trout. Just a summary of good spots to target, how to fish those spots, some simple rigs, and a good tackle setup for the beginner.

Thinking about picking up a new hobby? Want to get a memecaster? Haven't mastered the Palomar knot? Click here!

you can experiment by drilling holes in a jighead and epoxying a wire in the hole to add spinners. I copied and made quite a few heavier models for bottomfish

So a friend of mine named marlin is going to spend a year in Englewood fl and I'm Planning to but him for a week or two, and that means I'll need some tips
1: will my 8weight handle the drum, snook, blues, etc and the flies? Its medium fast and I can double haul a good 80 feet with scientific anglers air cel that I got for 25 bucks
But the big question: what line? Intermediate? Sink tip? Full float? Ive seen 15 foot sink tips that can attatch to a a floating line for salmon but not salt water
I'm poor so price is a concern, and can only afford 1 line at that
Any advice is appreciated

any salt bros have recommendations for spoons for surf casting or pier/jetty fishing? I am considering just ordering a bunch of Kastmasters because I know they work but I could shop around a bit
>>
>>884355
Kastmaster is GOAT
Get all kinds if sizes and colours
>>
>>884355
kastmaster is just awesome. They can work in any condition and can be cast far even in the wind.

krocodile is also good, but it doesn't cast as far and get fucked over by wind more as kastmaster of equal weight and have bigger profile. However, they sink much slower and have much bigger action. They sink slower so they can be retrieved slower. If the condition is calm, they might work better than kastmaster, especially when fishes are lazy and finnicky
>>
>>884372
Don't forget changing trebles for bait holder hooks and rigging a soft plastic on a spoon for a bigger presentation with slower sink on kastmasters
>curlytail on kastmaster as long as body of curlytail (that's how I like to size them, so of you cut the tail off the curlytail the body is the size of the spoon) or fluke 2x the length of kastmaster (if the kastmaster is 2 inches long I'd use a 4 inch fluke for an over all 6 inch presentation) is killer
>>
I get ultralight, medium, heavy, etc. aspect of rods, but can somebody explain to me fast/medium action to me and why it matters?

I'm moving to Michigan because of work and was wanting to get into fishing. What should I fish for and what type of tackle should I get? Will be living 30 minutes south of Grand Rapids.
>>
>>884378
>Most bass rod actions are fast to very fast because this action generally provides better sensitivity and faster power for hooksetting. By faster power we mean the rod 'shuts off' faster, or the bend ends higher on the blank, which means you don't have to move the rod as far on the hookset to get into the stiffer part of the blank. Fast action rods are great for most applications where a short to long casting distance is involved and single hooks are the rule, such as worm and jig fishing.

>Medium and medium-fast rods will usually provide a little more casting distance and still provide adequate hooksetting power. These actions are often used for applications that involve treble hooks, such as crankbaits and topwater lures or other reaction baits such as spinnerbaits. The 'bite' of a treble hook is not as deep as a big single worm hook and it is easier to tear the hook out of a strong fish, plus the slower action will not pull the lure out of the fish's mouth before it fully engulfs it. The type of lure you use will usually determine the action of the rod you should use

https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/guides/rodselection.html

TL;DR slower action rods provide greater casting ability because it loads the road with more energy on the back swing of your cast, faster action provides greater feel and sensitivity when your lure is in the water and allows for harder hook sets
>>
>>884315
Those baits were still moving in the water and clearly not plant matter which is likely what triggered the strike
Keep in mind a dead Nightcrawler may as well be a plastic worm

Bass hunt primarily by sight and their lateral line
Bass do not scavenge although I'm sure if they were struggling to find food they would probably eat a dead fish off the bottom

Why not just use circle hooks?
>>
>>884402
Good luck Texas rigging a lizard to be weedless on a circle hook and not killing the action
>>
>>884403
But I don't want to catch bass. I want to fish for real fish. Is there anything other than bass in Michigan? Catfish? Pike?
>>
>>884404
I'm assuming walleye and smallmouth are probably the most popular game fish up there and I'm sure they have northern pike as well
The thing about action still holds true regardless of target species

Pic related.

>>884310
I actually like that one because it doesn't look like a furfag drawing with the big creepy eyes and shit.

>>884378
They seem to make a difference on lure action in addition to casting. Fast rods are nice for Texas rigs on the bottom where you want to give them real small and quick twitches. With a bit slower action, it can help give some baits a more natural and smooth swimming action.
>>
/out/
>>
>>884402
Because circle hooks require fish to it in the hook, close their mouth, and swim away so that the fish hooked itself. That doesn't work when using lures since fishes will do quick strikes or will spit the lures out quickly and circle hook will miss the hook up often.
>>
>>884394
note that medium action rod might have a bit of casting power over fast action. However, it's not noticable in mid size lures and also a beginner most likely won't be able to cast a medium power farther than a fast power. Fast power cast more "accurately" so it's easier for a beginner to maximize the cast distance of a fast power rod since they can make the lure fly the optimal fly path more often. To cast far AND accurate with a medium power requires some practice and the weight of the lure has to match the rod well.

most fish that eat smaller schooling fish will eat a epoxy jig. most pelagics, striped bass, blues, mackerel, bonito, rockfish, yellowtail ect..If you got the spro's dont bother with the hogy theyre not that cheap and the spros do the same job.

Another lure alternative to spoons you might be interested in for pier and surf is the Sea striker gotcha. casts a mile and gets bit. works good as a skip bait too.

I've caught bass on dead minnows and several times on large dead minnows and big pieces of cut panfiah while catfishing. Fairly large bass actually in the 5+ lbs range. I've caught smaller ones while using worms under a float for panfish.

Not particularly common though. Ive also caught several channel cats on artifical, so there's that.

Bass generally prefer livelier options and catfish usually like stuff that doesn't try too hard to escape them. Except flathead catfish. Those fuckers love live panfish.

I saltwater fish with the same 15 dollar shimano rod and reels I bass/crappie/trout/catfish with.

My dad uses an even older assortment of old spinning and used baitcasting reels.

Last weekend we went to the coast and out fished everyone at the pier and seveal peoplease launching in boats. I was the only one catching keeper sized speckled trout and he landed a 44 inch drum.

It's less about your rod and reel and more about hook, line, sinker, bait, and technique. You need line strong enough for the fish you want, you want enough weights (or none) to get the bait where you need it, you need sharp hooks that are the right size for the fish you want, you need bait the fish want to bite, and you need to know where to fish, how to set the hook, and how to fight and land a fish without losing it.

If you can't do any of that, no amount of expensive rods and reels of any kind will help. All that stuff usually does is make casting and reeling repeatedly somewhat easier as fishing for 6 or more hours straight can get tiresome.

Seeing people hold spinning reels like that is the equivalent to nails on a chalkboard for me. I still see an old Hispanic or Asian dude fishing like that from time to time and they don't even want to change.

>>884608
The Rapala XXX-Raps are like that.

I think there is a weird law in FL where on the Atlantic coast further north in the state, you are only allowed to use circle hooks. I'm sure there is more to the law, saltwater regs are confusing as fuck. But I'm hoping that is just for bait and doesn't apply to lures.
>>
>>884627

My wife used to do that and it confused me because her dad used to take her fishing so I knew she knew better.

But when you're so used to closed faced spinning reels, it's apparently much harder to break the habit.

Lord knows I still feel uncomfortable as hell casting right handed baitcasting reels even if I'm capable of doing it just fine.
>>
>>884639
I really want to grab a lefty memecaster just to see if I like it. It took me a long time to get used to cranking with my right hand and I still don't understand why they do it.

I guess it makes messing with the drag easier. But you still have to switch hands after casting and I do all the twitching and working the lures with my left hand because that is the one palming it.

Depends on the water (coast, river or lake?) and the kind of trout. If the water is too cold/hot they're not very active and wont strike much. Usually early morning is good and from 06.00 pm onward.

Dawn fishing down here is rough because when it is warm out, you can't even really make it til 10am. It's not like it gets Texas hot here, high 80s daily in the summer. But it will be like 78F at 6am, sun comes out ar 6:30am, and it is 85F by 8am and will be 88F all day until the sun goes down. Plus the ocean breeze dies off overnight and doesn't pick up til like 11am. Same weather every single day.

Thats one of the reasons I like dusk fishin the best. The humidity early in the AM can be overpowering until the breeze picks up.

>>884702
That's why righties often use lefty casting reels. It can be awkward holding the rod with your non-dominant hand and you have to switch hands after you cast.
>>
Anyone know if I can use WD-40 to lube my reel? Particularly the bail attachments so it will come down smoother.
>>
>>884699
no, im right handed. Always fished my spinning reels on the left though, ever since I was a kid.

>>

Id get something online. Only reason I wouldn't use WD-40 is because its not even a lubricant its a water displacer (hence the WD) so it wont even effect anything on the reel
>>
>>884708
>wd40 - reel
DO NOT DO THIS
>>
>>884708
WD-40 is a shitty lubricant overall. I mean it's fine if you have nothing else, but more of a short term thing.

The rule is normally oil all the bearings (whatever real liquid oil you have) and then grease all the gears and larger moving parts
>>
>>884714
Literally any other oil would be the way to go. WD-40 even makes an actual lubricant (I think it's a black and yellow can). You don't have to buy special fishing reel oil, but get a little bottle or can of whatever. And a tube of grease will help for the other parts, I just use white lithium grease and it's great for bicycles and anything else around the house.
>>
>>884725
>WD-40 is a shitty lubricant overall.
In fact, if you look at a can of regular WD-40 you won't find the word "lubricate" on it.

You can find this stuff anywhere you can find WD-40. Seriously, our drug stores and grocery stores in the US have it.
>>
>>884730
If you have something besides WD-40 that you use for bicycle chains (liquid oil), it should work fine. Use that on all of your bearings and then grab grease in the future for the gears and it will be butter.

So I did some looking on shooting heads and have some questions
Why does the whole shooting head have to be out? Why wouldn't it work to have 10 extra feet so when you're holding the knot you're ready to shoot? Doesn't it land in the water hard? I know I can cast my fly lines well but I'm not sure how much line I've actually got out when I shoot so I'm unsure of the grain weight. Is it better to make a shooting head from s piece of DT line cut in half or but a shooting head
Doesn't it have trouble turning over flies? would breaking the standard leader formula (60,20,20) for a more aggressive leader (75,12,12 or even 80,10,10) help turn the fly over better?

Idk, there's already the thread for the /out/ secret santa but we could do a fishin specific one.

You guise want to do that? I'm down to have a fishing & tackle thread secret santa with like a $20 budget or something cheap. I'll organize it if we go through with it. Everybody could just email a mailing address to me with the type of fishing they normally do and then I will email everybody back with somebody to buy for.

I remember last year for the /out/ secret santa, there was actually a way for people to make a wish list on Amazon or eBay where it wouldn't show any contact info but somebody could go on that wishlist and buy the stuff for them and it would ship directly there. If anybody can figure out how to do that, it might be a good way to do this.

I mean it could happen where somebody is a fucktard and doesn't order a gift for somebody else. In the other /out/ secret santa, the anon organizing it is asking if there is anybody who is willing to buy a 2nd gift in case some anon gets screwed.

I figure we just limit it to like $20 so if you do get screwed somehow, it's not the end of the world. I was thinking everybody sends me an email with shipping info and fishing type, then once I get all the emails I will draw names somehow and email everybody back with somebody to shop for.

If I get 5 emails from one town in Virginia, I'll assume somebody wants 5 different gifts. If they are willing to buy for 5 different people, go for it but I'd like to avoid that all.

If we do this, just don't send me an email with a burner account because I'm going to reply to that same email with somebody to shop for after we get everybody in.

It's not that big of a deal. You probably don't even have to include a real name, just make sure your mom doesn't "return to sender" the Bass Pro box addressed to Anon Y. Mouse.

I mailed stickers to like 150 people on /o/ and have yet to rape or murder any of them. I haven't even stolen any identities.
>>
>>885000
Okay that doesn't sound too bad. Should we make it so we have to send you a confirmation that we actually bought something though? People could still just send their address and have no intention of participating, no one would even know until it's too late
>>
>>885004
Yeah I was thinkin about something like that. I could collect all of the emails with shipping info and have a deadline for maybe like 2-3 weeks before Christmas. Then when i send out emails with people to shop for, maybe we can ask everybody to email back a screen shot of a shipping confirmation?

Only problem is if you, Anon A, are ordering for Anon B, B has C, and C has A, I can't really wait for A to send me shipping confirmation to tell B he has an order coming, so B shops for C, and then tell C he is good, etc because if C and B aren't willing to spend money until they know somebody bought shit, A will have to buy something in the first place without knowing for sure there is a gift coming.

So pretty much keep it around $20 and hope we aren't a bunch of scumbags. When I send everybody their receipients, I will probably tell everybody to wait a few days before actually shopping to confirm that we are all still on board with the whole thing and willing to buy gifts. If somebody backs out at that point, I will just switch a couple people around.

tl:dr;
Please only do this if you are 100% committed and not a complete pile of shit (skid).

>whole shooting head have to be out

the hinge, makes shooting your line easier.
youll see when you throw the shooting cast that the line fires out and you dont want the loop to loop connections slamming the guides hindering the cast. the all in one lines are similar to regular wf lines and you end up with around 30-40' outside the rod tip and another 60 of actual fly line on the reel to shoot. On the cheap you can cut down older lines or buy cheap line on ebay ($12) and cut the non taper running section off. youll need to create a loop to loop to change lines out. thats the best part of shooting lines is the ability to change out weights when you need more or less. you can shoot any line you want be it sink, float, intermediates ect..
learning to taper the cast, similar to feathering the line on a spinning reel makes the fly turn over nicer when going big and helps to control the accuracy.. yes change up the leader set up. depending on the fly size and fish you are targeting. shooting at boilers and kelp lines i use 12-25 # flouro straight to the fly, no problems turning the fly over. you can taper all you want but if its too soft on the tip then it wont wont roll and usually the leader will pile on you. you'd be amazed at the distance and how easy it is to use shooting lines, i find it almost similar to casting a spinning reel. like you know when to let your finger go to make the cast. shooting is similar because you feel the weight of the line load the rod and you can time it on the back cast like casting a spinning reel. also getting your fly out is much easier so the fly has more time in the zone to catch and youre not wasting time false casting just to get distance. a couple of setup casts, release and bam 80'

youll need a stripping basket also

So should we do it?

>GetSomeMemes at gmail
-Mail it in for the Secret Santa
-try to spend around $20
-include the type of fishing you normally do, favorite lures and sizes maybe and then shipping info where the gift should be sent to
-don't use a burner email because I'm going to reply to everybody in the beginning of December when it get a little closer to the holiday
-at that point, I'm going to make sure everybody who emailed in is still 100% on board
-I will do a random drawing and email everybody with the people they are shopping for, shipping info, and what type of fishin they do
-after you buy the gift, feel free to send a screenshot of the confirmation and everything so we can make sure everybody is accounted for
-if anybody doesn't receive a gift, we will call out the fag who was supposed to shop for them and probably just post their info on /b/ so they get a bunch of CP mailed to their home

What do you guys think? I will keep this in the OP posts too and change anything we need to.

I can either put it lower down in the OP or I can put it as the 2nd or 3rd post with the next few threads.

Either way, I'm going to email everybody to make sure they are still down to do it like a few days before we shop. And if somebody gets a gift without buying for another anon, we just have to share their mailing address with everybody and hopefully that will be enough of an incentive to not flake out on a $20 secret santa.

We could also do the thing like the main /out/ secret santa where we have a couple people on standby who are gainfully employed and willing to spend an extra $20 if somebody gets shafted.

if youre solely looking to gain some distance and want to stick to a traditional fly line you can always go up a weight with your lines. it loads the rod a lot more so you have to adjust your timing but it works.
>>
>>885076
>implying that counts as proof
>implying anyone can't just write that on a piece of paper

You have to take a picture of yourself with some sort of furry memorabilia. You can wear your tail or even print out furry art and take a pic of yourself holding it.
>>
>>885109
Ibthought you went down a weight so you can have more line out when your rod loads?
I'm looking for cheap distance I'd say

Like those Keitech ones? I look at those every time I'm at Dick's and sometimes they have sales like 20% off if you buy 4+ packs but I never actually go for it. I should buy them one of these days just to try them out.

I had another hit from a smaller snek on that little chatterbait a couple min later and then the action just died off. It was real windy again today so not even worth fishing Texas rigs and it was raining on and off.

The Keitech ones aren't even that expensive. It's like $4 or $5 for a pack. Idk, the one thing that always keeps me away is the colors but I will grab some one day. I don't even run those swimbaits all that often though since most of the year I'm limited to creature baits and worms on the bottom. I have a ton of Super Flukes that will take me years to use.

>>
I want in on the secret santa
>>
>>885319
Got it. So far it's just skid and you. I don't even care if it is small since the regulars will actually go through with it. Here's the rundown I typed up this afternoon:
>Fishing & Tackle Secret Santa

-around a $20 budget for gifts
-email GetSomeMemes @ gmail with shipping info and what kind of fishing you do
-don't use a burner email, because we will have a deadline some time in December and at that point I'm going to email everybody back to make sure they are still on board to buy gifts
-after that I will randomly draw names and email everybody with an anon to buy gifts for so they can order right off their favorite tackle website
-once you have bought gifts for your anon, feel free to email me back with an order confirmation so we know everybody is getting their gifts, and I could possibly even send anons tracking #s for their gifts
-if any anons flake out and receive gifts without buying anything for their person, enjoy the constant pizza guys that show up and stacks of gay furry porn that Skid will mail you. I hope it was worth saving the $20.

If you're ultra paranoid and afraid that one anon will have your address, then don't even participate. You don't even have to include your real name if you don't want. We're just trying to have a little fun with the holidays.
>>
>>885322
Yeah it's a clackin rap. I don't know if it's at every gander, or just the local one. I'm probably gonna go back when I get paid again and pick a couple more up. They've had that been there for like 6 months with $4.99 rapalas lol.

>>885325
Is it cool if we ship it ourselves? I wanna write anon a nice Christmas note or something
>>
File: IMG_1744.jpg (2MB, 2096x3072px) Image search: [Google]
IMG_1744.jpg
2MB, 2096x3072px
>>885328
The Gander Mtn here had so much dank stuff on sale last year right after Christmas and a lot of it was still around into the summer. I picked up a bunch of Mepps for $2-$3. I wish they had more than just the one Agila with the chartruese blade and natural brown skirt, that was incredible until I lost it.

And go for it. I know the other Secret Santa was talking about the Amazon Wishlist and that sucks because you can only buy what they picked out. This way you can make something or gift some shit you have and think they would like or order from any different retailers. I would be stoked if I got anon who makes all his own shit and he sent me some goofy stuff.

You can probably save a few bucks shipping it yourself anyway. If you're already at Bass Pro and see something the person might like, just buy it and send it with USPS Priority Mail. A couple lures would only cost like $2 to ship and it is pretty much 3-4 days anywhere in the country and they give you a tracking number. Depending who I get, I might just do that and send it USPS. Or at least if I'm going to order something off Bass Pro's website and pay $8 shipping, I could order a couple things for myself and then USPS the other stuff to anon so I don't need to pay $8 shipping on two orders.
>>
>>885328
>>885346
And as far as timetable, I'm thinking we try and set a deadline for joining the Secret Santa like a week into Dec. That way I have a couple days to email everybody back and confirm they are still down to do it, and it will be like 2 weeks before Xmas when I send everybody emails with who they are shopping for. Plenty of time to make an order, wait a couple days to receive it, then ship it back out with USPS Priority Mail.
>>
>>885346
>>885347
That sounds good to me. Skid better start saving up now kek.
>>
>>885347
email is sent. Ill probably do what Lizard fag is doing and ship it ourselves because I want to try and get some locally made baits depending on what preference the person I get has
>>
Anyone have any recommendations for length/power/action for a good pier rod? IDK if I'm comfortable hucking around my 9-12ft surf rods at the pier. I will be pairing with a Penn Fierce 5000 reel and throwing medium to large lures like the 1-2oz kastmaster here and some spro swimming jigs someone else recommended. Big bucktails, maybe deadsticking some cut bait and such. IDK. West coast commiefornia fag on the monterey bay
>>
>>885349
Lel I told him the exact same thing in an email.

>>885355
Yeah that would be the coolest way to go about it, get something that anon couldn't pick up at their nearest Walmart.
>>
>>885346
What do you use as that glue on that screw lure? And how would you work that lure in the water?
>>
>>885380
Idk, I didn't make those. Maybe anon will show up. But it looks like it might just be held on with that sparkled thread. Just watch a quick youtube video on how they tie flies, the thread gets wrapped around tightly a million times and is pretty strong.
>>
>>885380
You wrap them tightly. And do a cute little underpull knot. And maybe some super glue or epoxy. Super glue penetrates the thread better. But epoxy Looks better.

Yeah I have a handful of them and even on shit like the poppers the action is really good. I'm sure I will get more when I get bored of the X-Raps because those things eat up my hard bait budget.

On the far right of this pic are the Yamamotos and those things kinda remind me of the Yo-Zuris. Dick's has been clearing them out for cheap the past couple months so I reccommend those if you see any on sale that you like. The finish is similar to the Yo-Zuris and the action on them is much better than expected. I think they retailed around $7-$9 before the clearance so not like they are cheap lures.

Just got my first bass today

Ive gone out like 8 times fishing and today I deserved this one.

>Fishing pond for 2nd time, first was on a rainy day and water was hardly visible
>Aiming for carp and catfish since online research says it's best here
>Start fishing some lures first just for possible bass or pike
>Nothing so go into hotdog-sit and wait tactic for cats and carp
>After more nothingness, move to end of the pond with the dam, pretty deep here.
>In the midst of looking on my phone while the hotdog is laying around the dam side of the pond, I see something on the far side of the pond splash.
>MONSTER BASS
>Saw the green dude surface out of the water, probably nailing some bluegill in the shallows
>But this was on the other side of the pond
>have to cross the stream at the bottom of the dam
>Get feet wet
>Start casting out
>Darn chainlink fence in the pond (used for erosion I guess, cant hate it) and I get snagged
>Have to reset tackle
>Pick up this rig I made before while bored one day, just a small soft plastic minnow with a hook I found at another pond
And that nailed the bass
Was just almost length of my forearm, small one and nothing I see on some fishing channels.
But damn Im proud. I even handled him correctly.

Thanks for the help everyone!

I've got a shooting head question
What about this set up
>shooting head
>loop/loop connection
>12-15 feet of 30-40 pound mono as something to hold on to during the double haul
>fg knot
>#30-#40 pound high vis braid as shooting line/backing
I imagine that will give good balance between super light and thin shooting line and line thick enough to get a good grip on
An fg knot is so thin and nearly 100% integrity
>pic related, fg knot being a thin bastard

>>12-15 feet of 30-40 pound mono as something to hold on to during the double haul

that would be called the "running line" for running line I use 50# rio slick shooter. its a oval mono made just for that, its supple stiff, comfortable on the hands, absorbs shock, has very little memory and shoots incredibly well.

sorry i didnt mention the whole running line ,shooting head, shooting line stuff in the first post. What you are proposing will work, i would go higher on the mono or buy proper running line. If you get snagged far out and have to pop it out you dont want a weak link. 30lb mono is stretchy, you dont want to lose your shooting head. fg is a good knot.

>>885963
forgot to mention. when using mono because it has a lot of memory before fishing youll have to pre stretch the mono so that it will not coil up in your stripping basket. You have to do it with the rio also just not as often.
Takes a couple of minutes to run the line to something and to give it a stretch..

On my 11wt spent cash on a all in one head & line so dont have to do any of that.
>>
>>885985
Well the weak link would be my leader/tippit at the very end of the line with a maximum break of 20lb but more likely in the 8-15 lb range (3x-0x tippit, maybe a #20 tieable wire if I'm expecting blues or Spanish on a light clouser in the morning)

But i really wouldn't have much of that mono, I don't trust mono to not kink and I'd rather spend 5-10 minutes untangling braid than 1-2 minutes untangling mono then having a kink for the rest of eternity
Ideally I'd have braid that starts at .025 to .030 then in 15-20 feet seamlessly tapers to more like .010 so then I get hyper thin shooting line for most of it then thick line to grab on to and this seems like the easiest way to simulate that
>>
>>885988
>>885992
Maybe I should look into an all in one shooting head? Or would that defeat the whole "do it cheap" goal?

how youre going about it is the easiest introductory to understanding shooting.
all in one shooting running is definitely not the cheapest. and it has drawbacks. thats why I use both. how youre doing it you can easily change out heads to find the right weight for the day. you can customize the sizes and lengths of the head, like when you want to punch through a head wind or deep bomb a fly off a jetty stick on that 18' heavy tip. when you want to run intermediate stick on the blue one...I have a wallet similar to leader wallets but for my heads. keeps everything organized.
the way your approaching it is how it was done for ages before all the new tech lines dont sweat it too much.
>>
God I need to buy a vise and tie my own flies
I've had 3 ideas for patterns in the last 10 minutes and want to try them all
One
>clouser minnow tied where the body is flashabou and the wing is really heavy bouyant bucktail for a shallow running Spanish mackerel fly
>a mickey Finn with a short flashabou tail and a few strands in the wing
>several white saddle hackles tied at the base of the hook, then two longer ones stripped except for the very tip
>hella thread down
>go to front of hook, tie white bucktail all around the shank pointing forward, comb it back then tie it down for a hollow body
>tie in dumbell eyes
>some vaguely purplish brown spots on the body
>squid
>call the pattern "schoolgirl's nightmare"
Unless its one of those patterns that already exists in which case call the a creater a time traveling cunt
>>
>>886014
I looked at some heads and I think I'm going with the Rio shooting head 315 gn
I put on 3/4 oz of lead to my rod with a zip tie and wiggled it some like i was going to cast it and that seems like all the heavier I'd want to play around with
Also in the name if cheap probably what I'll do is build my own stripping basket
>cheap plastic tub from wal-mart
>cheap nylon belt
>little all thread
>little epoxy
>a few feet of 1/4 inch pvc or similar
Cut out the basket so it holds the belt then use a heat gun to put curve in it, drill holes in the bottom and put in a little allthread, glue PVC to allthreads, make ends of PVC vaguely pointy and smooth, stripping basket

I've gotten blues like that on gotcha plugs but I'm not sure if its both fish ate the same bait at the same time or if its one fish trying to steal the lure from the other and paying for its sins
>>
>>886074
I caught a Muskie once that ate the rock bass that took my bait

Lmao

Tried to find those huge reds I talked about a while ago and succeeded but couldn't trigger any bites. Caught a thousand dinks though.

I can't remember if it's TXfag or somebody else, but sonebody here has had multiple times where they were reeling in a little dink bass and a big 5lb+ bass will slam the little one.

You can also pound nails in so they face sharp end up in the basket. When you strip into the basket the nails arranged in a grid make it easier to prevent tangles and knots in the slackline basket

Doesn't surprise me at all The best color patterns around here are baby bass as there isn't a great bluegill or shad population

I have gotten some nice bass on the baby bass colored Strike King Caffeine Shads.

I just grabbed that bass Husky Jerk last week and I'm curious to see hoe that works. I have some other bass and bluegill hardbaits and a ton of shad stuff but my best color has always been just plain gold. In IL and FL gold a best.

No that's me (hatch)
Allmost every one of my bass 5-10 lbs has been on a smaller little bass

I only think I have a few bass over 5 lbs that were caught on anything else (one on a senko one on a frog, one on a black rubber worm
) Meanwhile I have dozens on baby bass

You down with the Fishing & Tackle Secret Santa?

I think I just saw somebody die on I-75. No clue how it happened but traffic was flowin at 70mph; then there was a crasj and a cloud of smoke in the left lane like 100yds ahead. White Corolla rear ended a silver Nissan and the Corolla's front bumper must be in the driver's lap right now.

Only in fucking Florida. They should send crash investigators here to train because there's no reason why an accident like that should happen on a 4 lane interstate with light traffic.

Its all the damn spics down there that I swear have a cousin's cousin that works at the DMV and just gives them drivers license without a single test being done.
Florida is the number one state for bad drivers. AND drivers without insurance. And most of them come from south florida.

Source. Mother and father both from dade, white. Both their parents both there before the spics ever were. Saw first hand what a shithole spics turn things into. I'm also a native Floridian myself. And have seen first hand the influx of spic population where I grew up in kissimmee. Its fucking big Puerto Rico here now.

Mexicans aren't nearly as bad as other minorites. There are tons of Mexicans in Chicago and a ton of them are uninsured but they aren't the worst drivers.

We get all the old people, tourists, and nigs that fuck everything up. Hispanic women are shitty drivers, but so are white women. Haitians and lots of the other islanders are just unintelligent people, and it's not like it's a language barrier or shitty formal education, they are just slow. And then there are the nigs. Nigs gonna nig wherever you are and they are ignorant and have no respect for anything. They along with all the immigrants like to bitch and moan about everything and think they are entitled to everything without deserving it.

I had a discussion about this with a dude from Bangledesh who runs a gas station in a somewhat hood area. They all hate nigs because they have to deal with them all day. Anybody who calls any of this racist doesn't have to deal with these people daily because they live in whitewashed suburbs. But dude from Bangledesh said he blames it on no discipline as far as the nigs (no dad ofc) and how lots of these people come to the US thinking "freedom" means they can be as rude and disrespectful as they want in public with no consequences. i thought it was interesting hearing it from him.

The little bit of mexicans we actually got up here in my part of fl. Are fine. Only thing they do that annoys me is they drink and drive their shitty work trucks afterwards.

Nothing says spic traffic like being behind a car about 200 yards back and smelling their perfumes oozing out.

We actually don't have that many nigs in my part of town. They are up in the orlando and Jacksonville, and Tampa areas. (notice a pattern?)

I've never had it happen to me personally but my dads told me stories of it happening quite often while deep sea fishing with sharks and other large fish stealing his catch and getting hooked. Sounds cool as fuck but also somewhat enraging.

Btw, what baits were you using? Just seems like it would be tough to actually hook the larger bass unless you had a little 8" bass get hooked right in the lip by a 6/0 hook.

I have some perch colored cranks too that look a little like baby peacocks sk I wonder if those will trigger hits. I bought a Yo-Zuri suspending jerkbait in a perch color for that very reason but didn't have any luck the few times I ran it in lakes with peacocks.
