What's a good relative weight for a backpacking tent? Years ago, pack standard weight used to be higher than it currently is. With new technologies, things are getting lighter and lighter and the standards have changed. This has the unfortunate consequence of setting the bar higher and narrowing the range in what one considered a practical weight for certain pieces of gear, with tents being one of them.
Let's narrow the scenario and just ask what a good tent weight for a 3 night hike might be? Traversed distance likely within the 10-20 mile range.
On the topic of tents... I live in Socal and my friend wants to go camping I have a drop cloth that's like super big. Would that work for a tarp tent? I

IMO upper ideal weight
3 season 1 person: 3lb
3 season 2 person: 4lb
3 season 3 person: 6lb
Double the weight for a 4 season.

I got this 2 person 3 season tent. It's 6lb but solid as hell.
2 pounds, not an ounce more.
Think a 2-person 4lb tent for solo hiking is too much? Alternatives at the 2lb range are priced twice as much.
How much can you carry, how far do you want to carry it and how much do you want to carry is the real question.

depends largely on the weather and terrain. shelter needs for snowstorms are going to different than deserts
Gelert Track 1, but they don't produce it anymore.
Sorry, but you gotta pack up and head home where the pigeons roam free.

I hike with a 2 person 2kg tent, so about 4.4 pounds. Its absolutely fine when Im hiking alone, and then is pretty light shared across two people if Im hiking with someone I that Im happy to share my space with.

Thanks for the info friend
How much do you want to spend?
I just use a single person tent and money isn't too tight anymore
3 seasons 1.5 pound $200
4 seasons 3 pounds $300

Which tent do you own?
