anyone hiked in Albania?
it looks gorgeous and cheap. Is it a good country to hike/kayak/fish? Will I get my kidneys stolen if I stay at a hotel?

Yes did so last summer. Backpacking/hostel/drinking for a few weeks. And 4 nights in valbona(?) Northern albania. Was also in Kosovo and Montenegro. Friendly and affordable. Little drinkable water in The mountains though, and shitloads og sneks (horned viper). There Are trails, but its not very developed for that kind of tourism. Its probably improving though. Very Beautiful, would recommend.

I am used to be able to drink running water since I usually go to sweden or norway. How bad is it? Will I have to carry for days?

I liked the Triglav National park in Slovenia better desu. 800km2 of beautifull terrain, well adapted, not at all busy. Heli rescue was on point when our friend decide to have an eppileptic attack in the middle of nowhere (kinda nice to know the emergency services are adapted to the area.) Not as cheap as Albania, but still... eastern europe, so bretty cheap.
Albania was beautifull as well tho, don't get me wrong.

Didn't hike in the balkans, but rode my motorcycle through on the way to greece. Nothing impressed me, and I was pretty sketched out the entire time I was there. Lots of really poor, desperate people. I've been a few places that were pretty bad and have been generally ok, but albania just seemed...off to me. I'd recommend the czech area or farther north than albania, but then again I didn't get out to see a whole lot and just rode through because I didn't like the feel of the place.
