Camping on top of Mt. Mitchell, NC right now... and getting 4G.
I don't feel like this detracts from the experience, though. Does technology ruin /out/ings like these, you think?
The hike itself was killer -- I'm fucking pooped.
No it doesnt. Only shitlord autists on /out/ think that it does. Fuckin faggots.

How are those issued tents?

Heavy but comfy. Got this one as a souvenir from Momma Marine Corps. The multicam is pretty effective, too. I've had people be surprised when they walked up on me because they couldn't make it out from a distance. I think you can get them at surplus stores?

I was thinking about replacing my civvie ultralight since it rips too easily even with a groundsheet. If it packs down fairly small I'd pick one up.
If you have spare cash check out those solar recharging mats for phones/laptops. They've gotten much better.

>"How was camping, Steve?"
>OH IT WAS AWESOME I CAUGHT A PIDGEY!!!
>"Oh cool, what is that?"
>You don't know what a Pidgey is!? It is a Pokemon!
These are the types of conversations I've been hearing in the office. The cringe burns I tell you. And, this is how I see people like you.

A PLB would be the only thing I'd consider carrying, but I don't own one. Though, I'm not a millennial. They tend to have 3 cell phones up their ass loaded with games and porn in case there's no signal for 5 mins.

I carry a GPS. But I do prefer less tech whenever possible. As long I am not with someone that is consistently on their phone or tries to be, I am generally okay with it.

What the fuck ever you jaded piece of shit. Not everyone with a smartphone is obsessed with the latest fucking app trend you goddamn faggot. Get a grip.
>>853601
Only ruins it if you let it get in the way of your's or someone else's enjoyment. Other than that, text away, I don't give a shit.
All the faggots who are glued to their phones.. well, when I go camping I have the willpower to put my phone in my pocket and leave it there.

It was rough, man. Lots of roots and loose rocks. I'm not a cyclist, but if I was, I'd probably leave the bike at home. Unless, of course, you want to bike up the west side of the mountain where all the fat tourists drive to the summit on the highway.
And I only ever took my phone out after I made camp. I was too busy controlling my breathing and trying not to die to fuck with it otherwise.
I would probably bring my phone, and only start a thread like OP given exceptional circumstances, but that's about it. I don't really take my phone out when I'm in the outdoors, albeit I don't consciously keep myself from pulling it out either.

You're underage, intoxicated, or don't speak English as a first language. If none of my presumptions pertain to you, go back to school, come back when you can form proper sentences and compose better greentext tall tales you goddamn faggot.

And by deep gap I mean the whole black Mountain crest trail, deep gap is just the start

That's the plan me lad.
I rode my bike down here from Upstate NY about a month ago.
