Ok guys, I cant take life in Kansas for one more minute.
Too hot , not enough /out/.
Outside magazine just listed its 16 best places to live and I am going to pick one of them this week and be there by end of summer.
Any extra info on these towns would be of great use to me.

>>
Anyone that has billings as a top place to live can fuck themselves. That factory town is a SHITHOLE. Go live in WA or OR, doesnt matter where. Dont go to ID. MI is also acceptable but it still doesnt have shit on WA and OR.

Raised in Leavenworth btw.

inb4 it lands in Kansas

>Billing MT #1

Damn it. MT needs no part of this type shit.

>Every town's photo is /out/ except Denver, which a a guy puring a cappuccino

How appropriate and it reinforces exactly why these assholes need to stay the hell out of MT. We have only a handful of cities and we've already lost Bozeman.
>>
>>840716
>we've already lost Bozeman.
How do mean lost it?
>>
>>840765
Look at all the new fellow Bozites. We've been swarming there from Pasadena for a while now.
>>
>>840619
Hey, OP. I'm from Kansas. I understand how Kansas may not suit your outdoor needs, but to say there isn't enough /out is downright laughable. There are loads of state parks, most of which are centered around decent sized lakes. Go camping or take up fishing. Fishing can be done year round, and targeting catfish at night is a good way to beat the summer heat. Did you know the worlds largest flathead catfish was caught in Kansas? It weighed over 120 lbs.

There is also an abundance of land dedicated to public hunting. Pheasant and quail season starts in November, and western Kansas bird hunting is phenomenal. All those lakes i mentioned earlier are great opportunities to take home some migrating waterfowl during the winter months.

Kansas blows, but I would be weary of going anywhere on "The List". Just seems like a bunch of places on the verge of becoming a hipster Mecca where all the blue collar people can't find jobs and are priced out of their old neighborhoods.

I mean if you want to open a vegan bakery, those places might be just right.
>>
>>840765
Bozeman has seen an influx of the sort of people who read Outside magazine and use words like 'shred' and 'bro' a lot and argue about craft beer and can pay for a $2k/mo condo while working as a barista.

They have squeezed out the actual humans so Bozeman looks and feels like Colorado.
>>
>>841006
Kek

Seriously though, it's awful what happens with places like this. Not enough jobs for normal people yet the rents are insane because 3 hipsters are sharing a 1-bedroom apt and each paying $650/mo.
>>
>>840619
Where is OP located? Certain parts of Kansas really suck.
>>
>>840982
Kansas is flat as a pancake.
I like to summit mountains in the summer and ski in the winter.
Fishing is about all kansas has going for it and its not even the kind I like to do.
>>
>>840997
>are priced out of their old neighborhoods.
You mean sell their houses because taxes go through the roof and make out quite well and boast about their good fortune but really don't make that much off the sale when all is said and done and they've relocated.
>>840997
>vegan bakery
tofu on a stick ftw
>>
>>840997
>priced out of their old neighborhoods

If they cant afford to live somewhere cool they need to figure out how to make more money.
Are you some kind of socialist?
>>
>>841024
the whole place sucks. that other guy is like "but u can hunt anon"
what can you do if youre not into hunting? meth. that's kansas.
>>
>>841115
I guess. Or they could have been renting a place for a couple decades and all of a sudden the landlord doubles the rent on them.

If they own acreage that they could flip for a ton of money, more power to them. But it isn't about the money for some people. They don't want to pick up and move from the home where they have lived their whole lives.

There are some spots like that around here in South Florida. The majority of the area has been built up since the 80s but there are still a couple little farms with cows or horses in an otherwise (sub)urban area. Every time I pass them, I wonder what kind of offers they are getting so the next townhome development can go up. I'm sure as soon as the owners die, their kids will sell the estate off and make out like bandits.
>>
>>841170
Are they still doing meth?
In Indiana it's based opioid's. Get on our level
>>
>>841482
You probably have both. The tweakers who like uppers get their meth while the junkies have their roxies.

Fuck meth. So glad I have never lived somewhere with meth. In Chicago we would stick to the classics- crack and heroin.
>>
>>841482
There are towns in Kansas where you wont find anyone below the poverty line who isnt on meth, and 75% of the place is below that line. They start their kids early round here too. McPherson is a good example, also in that county you have Lindsborg, these are 15-30 mins away from Salina, one of the few bigger towns.

It is a huge problem here that is completely ignored. The only places ive ever seen as bad as western kansas are the tiny towns scattered around Montana where Miss Missies 4th grade class paints giant anti meth murals on the sides of the abandoned businesses.

>Billings
>Taos
>Boise
>Gunnison
>Ketchum

WEW.
>>
>>841846
Fuck I would move to any of those places tomorrow if I could.
>>
>>841850
Billings is a shithole, Taos is full of hippies and in a state that's New Jersey-tier, Boise is worse than Billings, Gunnison is flooded with drugs and idiots and Ketchum is nice enough but there isn't shit there.
>>
>>841863
You are an idiot, those places are all awesome. I bet you have never seen any of them.
>>
>>842012
Billings is not awesome at all.
>>
The grass is always greener on the other side. Every place has its own distinct flavor of suck. Either learn to embrace the suck or migrate to a new place before you realize the suck exist.

check bottoms of hands and bottoms of feet.

I only talked about the places I've been to. Boise, Taos and Billings in particular are shit.
>>
>>842452
What did you do in Taos?
That place fucking rocks.
The skiing is world class there is white water rafting in the spring.
Endless mountainbike trails and tons of rock climbing.
When were you there?
How long?
>>
>>842505
>What did you do in Taos?
Visited family.
>That place fucking rocks.
It's full of hippies, natives and drug addicts and it's getting expensive as hell.

>The skiing is world class there is white water rafting in the spring.
>Endless mountainbike trails and tons of rock climbing.
Sure. But that doesn't mean Taos isn't a shithole.

>When were you there?
I've been going there for years.

>How long?
Usually for four or so days at a time.
>>
>>841515
There are towns like that in every state.
>>
>>841170
To be fair he did mention fishing and camping too. I don't think most the people posting on here have ever attempted any kind of /out experience in Kansas. There is stuff to do. Probably easier to sit around on 4chan complain though.
>>
>>842557
>>Endless mountainbike trails and tons of rock climbing.
>Sure. But that doesn't mean Taos isn't a shithole.

Actually that's exactly what it means.
Sounds like you just hate hippies and Indians which is only a fraction of the people there.

Grand Marais, MN:

>20-30 mins drive from Boundary Waters, primitive camping, hiking, canoe/kayak
>tiny town (if that's your thing)
>Lake Superior (salmon fishing)
>20 mins from Lutsen ski area - biggest in the midwest (which isn't saying much)
>Superior hiking trail

>very isolated, 1.5 hour drive to nearest "city" (Duluth)
>winter is 6 months long - seriously, Nov - end of March. Plenty of winter activities though. But if you're not into lots of cold, reconsider.
>>
>>843044
Kansas is shit kid, sorry.
