TL;DR noob apnea tips pls
Hi, /sp/ecialists,
I have found a love for apnea. Freediving this year in Croatia was fun as fuck (hunting shells, seastars and stuff) and I want to train for next year as well as for shits and giggles. If there are any freedivers here, I have a couple questions I couldn't find online:

>How often should I practice my O2 and CO2 tables? Erryday? Every other day? My maximum the last time I checked was 2:02 static (it's shit, but what can ye do but train more) and I want to get better.
>Is there any advice regarding fins I should know? I dived only in shoes this year and it was difficult moving around, I feel fins would give me a great advantage. What should I look at when buying fins?
>Any tips on great dives around Europe?

Thank you. I want to get more in shape and this seems like a great sport.

Ok anon, I'm not am expert or pro,, but I've been snorkeling and freediving since before I could walk so I kinda know know what's up.
>>How often should I practice my O2 and CO2 tables? Erryday? Every other day? My maximum the last time I checked was 2:02 static (it's shit, but what can ye do but train more) and I want to get better.
I never did anything special to train except for my technique which is a few minutes of deep breaths, complete inhale and compete exhale, pretty slow so not to hyperventilate. There is science behind this, but I can't be fucked to explain it. There are some very goot tutorials on youtube.
>>Is there any advice regarding fins I should know? I dived only in shoes this year and it was difficult moving around, I feel fins would give me a great advantage. What should I look at when buying fins?
Fins are a MUST for even casual diving. Human feet are shit in water and the mobility fins give you is insane compared to bare feet. There are a bunch of different finns, but you should just look for semi-stiff, pretty long, preferably without a back-strap/ just slip ons. I suggest getting a chepa pair so if the're to stiff/long/short/ narrow etc. you know what to look for.
>>Any tips on great dives around Europe?
Literally all of the mediterranean is the fucking bomb and it's cheap as fuck. Going to malta for a week in a month to scuba dive, and I've been to many of the countries around the mediterranean and they're seriously good.
Also, where are you from? I guess ireland due to your use of "ye". Anyway, your seas are cold as fuck, and I don't know if you can dive there in anything thinner than a thick wetsuit. But Ican say for a fact that cold reefs are sick, and you shoud check them out.

I'm staying in the thread, so if you have questions just ask.

Pic is hilarious.

Also, thanks for the advice. I'llget some fins ASap. I'm Czech, so the Medi is quite near (not as near as I'd like, but still).

Thanks for the advice. I'm looking into getting watch now (big paycheck), do you wear a watch? If so, what are some good waterproof options? Currently looking at https://www.alza.cz/trendy/festina-16889-1-d3950502.htm they look nice and they're black, so that's a plus. Any specific brand around that price range?

Oh nice. I'm polish so we're neighbors.
That's a really nice watch, I have a pic related, it's a rotary deep diver or whatever. What you want in a diving watch is a long strap so that if you want to dive in a wetsuit you can put it over the suit.

I never dive with mine because I have one of those cheap casio digital meme watches that goes down to 50/100m and that's my favorite watch ever, it s everything you want and costs as much as a meal at mcdonalds. Not reccomended for scuba diving because nowadays you have giant computer-watches on dives, and you don't need another watch.

I enjoy free diving but I am far from an expert. as far as fins go, I don't know how you even did it let alone enjoyed it without them. also if you didn't use fins, you probably didn't use a weight belt. go to a dive shop and get one. tell them you are new to free diving they will figure out how much wieght you need. its not expensive just a nylon belt and metal weights. good flippers are going to cost alot more.

as for the flippers, don't get the super long ones just yet. get some medium stiff ones meant for scuba. you aren't going 150ft down yet, so get fins that or you play around and explore at 20.

I never got into the tables shit. but yea all the best say it works. I just got started holding my breath while snorkeling as a kid and just kept doing it.

I have only been to europe on buisness, never dived there. but if you come over here florida has a massive amount of 30 foot deep dives. perfect for freediving fuck around types. like you said, collecting shells and shit. also, the yucutan is great. check out akumal in mexico. or pretty much anywhere in belize. the pacific is cold as fug but cabo is nice.

and you can always poorfag it. when I beach camp I normally go freediving once a day from shore. I swim out in a life vest, anchor it with a diving flag buoy, and explore. every once in a while I even find something. but beware, if you are alone don't push your limits.

First, long fins are nice even if only diving two meters below surface. Just make sure to not get too stiff ones. Not stiff enough better than too stiff. Full foot pockets for apnea not open heel.

OP, If you consider ever diving in water colder than +20c Buy fins with foot pockets, which fit properly with 3mm neoprene socks. depending on manufacturer, You might need to buy one size larger than your shoe size. But at least Omer measures footpockets with 3mm socks, ie. 43-44 omer fins fit 43-44 size foot with the socks

Second, Rubber weight belt, not nylon which drops to your armpits when diving down.

Weight on belt depends what are you wearing and how deep you are going to dive. When diving to 20 meters for example, a good weighting would be neutral at 10 meters, sinking below that.

Op, for the watch, cheapest waterproof one you can find(casio 200m waterproof etc.) If buying anything more expensive, make sure to get a model with at least a depth meter or a dive computer which has apnea mode.

I agree on you with the watch. but atleadt for me, free diving is about exploring stuff. so I like stiffer short fins. and my weight belt doesn't shift much because I have a gut. lol take that skinnyfags! I saved 10 dollars!

you are telling him more advanced level stuff, which is nice and all for someone who wants to go 150ft and spear a tuna. but I enjoy freediving for being able to swim a mile without much fatigue, then dive down 20 feet to explore a wreck or pick up cool shells.
>>
>>840633
OP here.

I'm gutty as well, ha!

As for the watch, I'm looking at a Timex with depth meter, but I'd like something nice for the job as well (translator/interpreterfag).

>>840618
I've been looking at apnea watches, Suunto and the like, but I'd say that I just need to know the time underwater, stopwatch at most, as I said, I'm searching for shells, no scuba or advanced stuff.

>>840607
Without fins, it was breddy adrenaline sport. High heart rate, not even a minute underwater, but I did manage some 30 feet (I think, no depth gauge, pls don't take my word for this number). I'll get some nice fins

>>840599
Nice watch, how's the strap? Personally, I'd like a wider strap more than a thin one, but damn, dat timex.

The festina Chrono in pic related look really nice, I'll send the Timex in next post.
>>
Dat Timex
>>
>>840618
OP here, I'd like a more expensive watch, desu the apnea functions won't be used NEARLY AS OFTEN, it's just that I want a watch I can wear even when diving, not a dedicated diving watch.

The strap is fine, it's super nice and the watch is waterproof up to 300m. Also you should get a minimum 100m proof watch for any casual diving.

But you should get one of these. It's a meme for a reason, it's insanely good.
>>
>>840783
>it's a meme for a reason
I need some analog watch, digital says "I can't read a clockface" in the Czech republic.
>>
>>840783
the original g shock is just a beefed up version. 5 years ago wall mart still sold them for 35 dollars.

but yea, if you aren' buying a 500+ automatic, just buy a casio.
>>
>>842887
Casios are good, but they aren't as nice-looking. I'd like something for the job as well, Timex or Festina or so. I'll check a watchmaker shop.
