How the fuck do you avoid Lyme disease?

Ever since I heard about it and how it ruins your life, I've become terrified of even walking next to tall grass and shit.

This shit is terrifying
>>

As soon as you see the ring, get a honey bee and make it sting you where the bite occurred. Leave the stinger in you and gently press the venom sac so it inject max Apitoxin levels into you. The Apitoxin will obliterate microbes and the Lyme disease bacterium. If it is a big ring like that in the picture, get stung several times around the ring. Make sure to see a doctor in addition to this.

Don't do this if you're allergic to honey bee stings, obviously.

I live in a Lyme disease area and get bit by deer ticks that carry it all the time. I use this method every time. I've been doing it for about 20 years and I have no known symptoms of Lyme disease.

So, take my anecdotal evidence with a big grain of salt and do your own research. I personally can't say shit about using this if you already have systemic symptoms of Lyme disease. Search:

"Lyme disease apitoxin"
"Lyme disease bee venom"

Why don't we have otc bee venom then?
>>
>>832995
Honest question. How does it ruin your life? I live in northern MN and I have had a few friends diagnosed with lymes after a about a week of symptoms each. They are both fine now and seem to be in tip top shape. I go out with a buddy who just had it this summer.

if it's not caught early enough it can become chronic and make you live in pain until you die early

I got it while playing disc golf a few summers ago. didn't notice it until it was too late and I spend about a week every few months bedridden. Standing up for longer than 15 minutes is hell.
For me its like a really really really bad case of Gout.

oh my how offensive, there are loads of deer though. Mostly because they hide out in National Parks where we aren't allowed to go get em' (except for Victoria during Sambar season)

Am literally astonished I don't have it. I've peeled thousands of ticks off me in my life time all over the u.s.

Yeah same area here, we also have good luck in that was don't get ticks as often once summer fully hits. Just got one for the first time in about a month but a friend of mine got the bullseye from a mosquito, caught it 0lenty early enough
>>
>>832995
>How the fuck do you avoid Lyme disease?
take anti-biotics after ticks bite you don't even wait for symptoms!
>>
>>833123
I eat neosporin after being tick'd
>>
>>832995
I worked in the Upper Peninsula in Michigan and now I'm stationed in Wisconsin. I talked to a lot of field workers from the Forest Service about Lyme disease, and pretty much symptoms aren't really to well understood. So I wouldn't put to much faith on that. Whats important to do is check your body after being in grassy areas or forests to see if one is on you. Deer ticks are the major vectors, and they will often pass on the disease after embedding for 24 hours on a person. If one does embed, use tweezers, and pinch the head and pull it off.

Its important not to squeeze the tick while embedded, as it increases the chances of contracting the disease. So pretty much wear bug spray, check for ticks, and if you do suspect one embedded for over 24 hours, get to a doctor. Antibiotics take care of it fine. Just catch it early and you'll be fine.
>>
>>832995
Step 1. Long pants, high socks.
Step 2. Bug spray.
Step 3. Check yourself at the end of the day.

It will be nearly impossible to get Lyme disease if you do this.
>>
>>832995
>How the fuck do you avoid Lyme disease?

DEEEEEEEEET
>>
>>833204
i read that the 24 hour rule is now outdated. a tick can spread lyme, powossan, etc. in just 15 mins. so now you have to be paranoid about fresh ticks sucking you off.
>>
Lyme's got me to quit smoking, eat better and just generally take care of myself. Being sore sucks but I'm probably better off because of it.
>>
anti-tick condom, every time
>>
Erythaema migrans only occurs in a third of borrelia infections. You are better off watching for infections with febrile temperatures for at least 4 weeks after a tick bite. If this is the case, I would advise to see a doctor for getting the correct antibiotics (and be sure to take them long enough, that is, pretty long).

Permethrin before every major outing. Avoid tall grass and shrubs in deer areas. Check for ticks regularly, at least every night if you can, and check everywhere... I mean EVERYWHERE.
A member of my family got Lyme's and was bedridden on and off (more on than off) for more than a year, couldn't even work.
Ticks are the bane of the animal kingdom. They're not even in the food chain. Fuck the little shits.
>>
>>832995
Don't be scared anon. Just always, always wear the following:
>Long, light-colored clothing; pants tucked into boots, hair tied back, hat on, long sleeved shirt
>Check your whole body every night, if you have a girlfriend have her check you and check her.
>Dust your boots with sulfur and your clothes with permethrin
>Spray yourself and your clothes with DEET-containing bug spray
>I don't know if this is effective for ticks but it will make you not tasty to mosquitoes at least: eat one whole raw onion and one whole bulb of raw garlic each day for two weeks and avoid sugar in that time before you go innawoods

If a tick does bite you, find it ASAP, gently pull it off by the head with tweezers, stick it in a jar, and freeze it. Then go to the doctor and send the tick to a medical laboratory for disease testing.

I have rocky mountain spotted fever; I got it when I was a kid in the mountains in Cali and I was really cavalier about wearing bug spray and sunscreen and all that. They say it's an acute infection but my immune system actually beat it at the time... and then it went chronic. Thought I had come down with the flu but it actually gave me ten years of full-body pain and increasing insanity. If you get bit, get to the doctor. And if you get sick in the middle of summer, go to the doctor, especially if you've been camping, and if they don't even bother testing you for tick-borne disease, go to an infectious disease doctor who will. Don't even think twice.
>>
>>832995
Either avoid tall grass, or wear pants like an adult. Shorts are for children.
>>
>>833034
>>833016
Yeah, and a flu can kill you. It just not very likely, so is this lyme shit.

Also if you search yourself for ticks every day there is almost no chance you will get it. Its totally irrational to be so afraid of it.

>Australian medical professionals refuse to recognize lyme disease here. Always wondered if it was a meme but americans always seem to take it pretty serious.

That is because despite testing all the people who say they have it doctors are yet to find Borrelia infection in patients who havent been to areas it is endemic. There is conflicting evidence about a similar australian bacterium but nothing conclusive.

Add to that the quackery of some doctors who see desperate patients looking for a name to put to their symptoms and a lot of anti vax tier conspiracy bullshit and you have the medical community being very cautious.
>>
>>832995
Lyme disease isnt real... Most doctors don't even recognize it as an actual illness/disease.
>>
>>833209

This. Also, going to the doctor and getting antibiotics as soon as you feel any Lyme-like symptoms (look them up and know them; remember that a rash doesn't always show up). Its not that hard to get rid of in the early stages, and there's no excuse for letting it turn into a chronic disease.

I've done archaeology in areas where Lyme is frequent and everyone gets it at some point. If you know how to handle it, it's not a big deal.

One of my friends for the last 12 years just died from a tick from rocky mountain spotted fever, not lyme disease. Ticks are bad. Lyme disease isn't all they can carry. It ate his internals and he didn't get the spotted part so they didn't diagnose it in time because they didn't know it was from a tick. Went into a coma and died. This was last week.

hey senpai, is it too late for me?

rash is itchy and bumpy, seeing doc on sunday for blood test/antibiotics, but i can't tell if this is actually a bullseye.

haven't noticed any symptoms, my neck is stiff but that's probably from sleeping on it wrong but none of my joints hurt. no fever, no headache, no fatigue. pls confirm I won't die

you may want to re-think that statement. Lyme disease is a fact. It's when you get into post-lyme, chronic lyme territory that you enter the clusterfuck.

For the record, it is also a fact that some people who contract lyme are left with long-term debilitating symptoms. It is unknown why.

You usually get lyme disease from getting bitten by ticks. Where long socks and long sleeve shirts with out in tall grassy areas or heavy forests.

I hope no one actually believes this

>>832995
Eat garlic (repels ticks and many other parasites), check for ticks and remove often. Alternatively, take a garlic extract supplement.

Holy shit I had this rash a few months ago on my leg and didn't know what it was until I came across this thread. I smoke a lot of weed though, so maybe that's why I rarely feel symptoms? RIP me
>>
Actual researcher here.

Don't get it. You are fucked.

No really royally fucked....don't even bother reading further on it if you get it you will get some shitty cronic desease in the future, safe call

How to prevent:

1. Get anti tick spray
2. shower (fuckers love smelling sweat)
3. don't jump into the bush or under it
4. wear long clothes in summer (yes be a retard but be save)
5. socks over trousers fully sprayed (read up on other alternatives if allergic)
6. be aware of rainday followed by hot day.. fuckers will be everywhere
7. check every where... yes no homo checking of bros

IF you get bitten
a) take special tick plies
b) pull out in STRAIGHT MOTION!
c) keep refrigerated and send to lab for testing with express

you will get your results faster than noticing the ring and getting a GP appointment

After that go to a specialist... yes every country has them... you don't want general shitty healthcare

Don't get bitten again and just live life normal until it kicks you in the nuts... as I said it will 100%

On a side note Lyme is still better than FSME- get your VAC NOW!
>>
>>835869
yes but only if legs swells up again.

Get acid earth from pharmacy it's like granny WW2 shit. Will help.

Find a specialist and get yearly blood checks. You are good once the count goes down but fucked if it stays.

IF! You fear severe fatigue fromt hen onward.

Get checked for:
MS
CFS/ME
Fibromyalgia

and get specialised treatment. You will still be fucked, but someone will help you to manage your life with a strong handicap.

Praying for you it ain't hitting in until your 60+

>>
>>844691
Yeah, fuck pharmaceutical companies, those greedy bastards pouring billions into researching and making better and better drugs for my diseases. REEEE!!!
>>
>>844695
Don't be an idiot. They are still companies, they have to seek a profit, if a cure is not profitable enough they won't go with it due to the kindness of their heart, and if they can overcharge for a medicine they will because it's profitable and they have a company to stay afloat.
There's a reason generics exist.

Big pharma companies aren't the devil but they aren't humanitarian or generous by far.
>>
>>844704
'It is not by the kindness of the butcher that you get your meat' or however that quote goes, just because they are self interested doesn't mean what they do is not beneficial and if they ignore a market opportunity then that is just an opening for another self interested person or group to exploit. We would be a lot worse off if they didn't exist.

>There's a reason generics exist.
Because the patent system generally works and is geared towards benefiting the public while still allowing individuals and companies to be rewarded for their inventions?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are doing anything out of the kindness of their hearts, but it really ticks me off to see people boo hooing about how evil "big pharma" is when it is to them and their self serving efforts that we are as well off as we are.
